Changing Batteries

WARNING
Risk of electric shock! Disconnect the product from any circuit, remove the test leads (M) from the input terminals (G)/(L), and switch OFF the product before opening the case. Do not operate the product with an open case.

NOTICE
Replace the batteries when the low battery indicator (9) is shown on the display.

• Loosen the battery compartment screws (J).
• Open the battery compartment (J).
• Replace 2 x 1.5 V AAA batteries.
• Close the battery compartment and secure it with the screws.

Operation

Switching the product on/off

  • To switch the product on, set the function switch (l) to the desired measurement mode.
  • To switch the product off, set the function switch (1) to the OFF position.
  • In order to conserve battery ife, the product automatically emits a beeping signal that the product has been idle for approximately 15 minutes. Right after 1 minute, the product switches off.

Switching the display backlight on/off

  • Press and hold the button (K) for 2 seconds to switch the display backlight on/off.

Display hold

  • To freeze the display reading, press the HOLD button (C).
The HOLD indicator (8) is shown on the display.

  • Press the HOLD button (C) again to return to normal operation.

Changing the measurement range

By default, the measurement range is set automatically and the AUTO indicator (4) lights up. It is possible to set the measurement range manually (not in every measurement mode).

  • Press the RANGE button (F) to activate the manual mode and to disable the automatic range setting. The AUTO indicator (4) goes off.
  • By every press on the RANGE button (F) the relevant decimal place changes its position.
  • If a reading is higher than the measurement range, OL lights up on the display (D).
  • Press and hold the RANGE button (F) for more than 1 second to exit manual mode and restore automatic range setting. The AUTO indicator (4) lights up.

Clamp measurement

NOTICE Disconnect the test leads (M) from the product before making clamp measurements.

  • Set the function switch (l) to the 400Ã. 200Ã, 20Ã or 2Ã position. If the approx. range of the measurement is not known, select the highest range. Then move to the lower ranges if necessary.
  • Press the trigger (H) to open the jaw. Fully enclose only one conductor. For best results, center the conductor in the jaw.
  • The stabilized value on the display (D) is read as the actual reading.

CAUTION
Risk of short circuit! Use the probe tip shrouds (N) to avoid accidental short circuiting if the components or test points are too near each other.

AC voltage measurement

  • Insert the black connector lead (M) into the negative COM (black) terminal (G) and the red connector lead (M) into the positive V (red) terminal (L).
  • Set the function switch (i) to the V~ position.
  • Connect the test probes (M) in parallel to the circuit under test.
  • The stabilized value on the display (D) is read as the actual reading.

DC voltage measurement

  • Insert the black connector lead (M) into the negative COM (black) terminal (G) and the red connector lead (M) into the positive V (red) terminal (L).
  • Set the function switch (i) to the position.
  • Connect the test probes (M) in parallel to the circuit under test.
  • The stabilized value on the display (D) is read as the actual reading.

Resistance measurement

  • Insert the black connector lead (M) into the negative COM (black) terminal (G) and the red connector lead (M) into the positive V (red) terminal (L).
  • Set the function switch (I) to the position.
  • Press the MODE button (E) to shift to measuring the resistance (Ohm). Disconnect one side of the product so the rest of the circuit does not interfere with the resistance reading.
  • Connect the test probes (M) across the circuit or component being measured.
  • If OL appears on the display (D), no current flow can be measured due to open circuit or the resistance being too high to measure.
  • The stabilized value on the display (D) is read as the actual reading. Continuity measurement
  • Insert the black connector lead (M) into the negative COM (black) terminal (G) and the red connector lead (M) into the positive V (red) terminal (L).
  • Set the function switch (l) to the position.
  • Press the MODE button (E) to shift to measuring the continuity . The continuity indicator (6) lights up on the display (D).
  • Connect the test probes (M) across the circuit or component being measured.
  • If the measured circuit or component is electrically open, the display (D) shows OL.
  • If the resistance is <50 , a beeping tone alerts that low resistance is measured. The stabilized value on the display (D) is read as the actual reading.

Diode test

  • Insert the black connector lead (M) into the negative COM (black) terminal (G) and the red connector lead (M) into the positive V (red) terminal (L).
  • Set the function switch (li) to the , position.
  • Press the MODE button (E) to change the measurement mode. The indicator (5) lights up.
  • Connect the test probes (M) across the diode being measured.
  • If the diode was measured in reverse, the display (D) shows OL. Reverse the probes (M) position to get the correct polarity.
  • The stabilized value on the display (D) is read as the approximate forward voltage drop of the diode.
NOTICE Forward voltage typically indicates 0.4 to 0.7 V. A shorted diode indicates near 0 V and an open diode indicates OL in both polarities.
