BEFORE FIRST USE
- Before initial use of this appliance, the grinding mechanism, grinding ring, bean container, and collection container should be thoroughly cleaned. For cleaning instructions, see the “Cleaning and Care” section.
ADJUSTING THE GRIND LEVEL
- The coarse/fine adjustment knob allows for setting the grind to your liking with 16 adjustable grind settings
- 1-3: Extra Fine, ideal for espresso or Turkish coffee
- 4-7: Fine to Medium, ideal for coffee from automatic coffee makers
- 8-16: Medium Coarse to Extra Coarse, ideal for pour-over, French press, or cold brew coffee
NOTE : These are approximations meant for guidance. Appropriate settings may vary according to personal preferences.
- To prevent beans from getting caught in the grind mechanism and possibly jamming the motor, always set the grind level before putting the beans into the container. If the beans have already been put into the container, the grind level should only be changed while the motor is running.
LOADING THE COFFEE BEANS
- To insert the bean container, line up the side plastic indents with the holes on the grinder. Then, twist the knob 90° clockwise to lock it shut.
- With the lid of the bean container removed, load the desired amount of beans inside. Then, replace the lid. The maximum capacity of the bean container is 14 ounces (400 grams).
SELECTING THE GRIND TIME
- Use the grind time selection knob to set the length of grind. The length can be set between 1 and 50 seconds and corresponds with the amount of ground coffee produced. Any amount from 2 to 10 cups can be processed in a single cycle.
- Since different types of coffee and other factors such as cup size and your personal preference may require different grind settings, we recommend that you try out whatever setting suits your personal taste.
- The maximum capacity of the collection container is 8.5 ounces (240 grams).
- CAUTION : Always make sure that you empty the collection container, because an overfull container may cause blockage.
GRINDING THE BEANS
- NOTE : If making espresso and using a portafilter, follow the instructions in the next section, “Using a Portafilter”.
- Ensure that the collection container lid is properly fitted before attaching the container itself to the main unit.
- Plug in the appliance, and then press the on/off button.
- The grinding process stops automatically when the selected amount of ground coffee has been produced. The process can be stopped at any time by pressing the on/off button again.
- When grinding has finished, unplug the appliance and wait until the motor has come to a complete stop before removing and opening the collection container.
- NOTE : To ensure optimum coffee flavor, only the required amount of beans should be ground immediately before brewing. Any excess ground coffee should be stored in an airtight container.
USING A PORTAFILTER
- Pick the appropriate holder (large or small) for your portafilter. Position the portafilter holder under the grind mechanism. Slide and lock it into place. Then, slide your portafilter into the holder.
- Press the portafilter into the black button on the wall of the grinder to begin. Hold until satisfied with the amount of espresso, and then release.
- NOTE : There is no need to press the on/off button on top of the unit when using a portafilter. The portafilter button starts the grind on its own.
CLEANING AND CARE
- Before cleaning the appliance, always unplug it and wait until the motor has come to a complete stop.
- To protect yourself from electric shock, do not clean the housing or the power cord with water or other liquids, and do not immerse them in water or other liquids.
- Wipe the housing with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth and dry it thoroughly.
- Do not use abrasives, harsh cleaning solutions, or hard brushes when cleaning this appliance.
- Remove the collection container and its lid, and clean them with a mild detergent. Ensure they are thoroughly dry before putting them back on the grinder.
- The bean container should only be removed after any remaining beans have been emptied. To remove the bean container, first turn the knob 90° counterclockwise. After it clicks, lift up the container. Rinse the container and lid and dry thoroughly. When replacing the
- container, make sure it is aligned with the insert as described in the “Loading the Coffee Beans”. Then, turn the container clockwise to lock it.
- The grinding mechanism can be opened for cleaning or in the event of malfunction. Remove the container as described above and take out the grinding ring. Use a small, soft brush to clean the grinding mechanism and the ring. Use caution, as the grinding assembly
- and ring have sharp edges. When inserting the grinding ring, ensure that the teeth on the ring fit into the corresponding recesses on the mount for the grinding mechanism. With the ring inserted, you should be able to move it slightly but not turn it.
- The wind-up power cord storage underneath the base helps limit the length of the power cord during use and makes it easy to store the appliance.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- Ground coffee spills from the collection container. This is abnormal occurrence, and static charge is usually the cause.
- The beans are not being ground, and the grinder makes a high-pitched squealing sound. Because of their particular shape, beans might get jammed inside the grind mechanism. Set the grind adjustment to position 1 and unplug the unit. Stir the beans with a spoon to free those that are caught in the mechanism.
- The motor does not start or makes abnormal noises as if running under a heavy load. The grind mechanism is choked or blocked. Unplug the unit immediately and clean the mechanism as described in the “Cleaning and Care” section.
