SAFETY INFORMATION

Please read and understand this entire manual before attempting to assemble, operate or install the product.

PREPARATION

Before beginning installation of product, make sure all parts are present. Compare parts with package contents list.
If any part is missing or damaged, do not attempt to assemble, install or operate the product. ESTIMATED ASSEMBLY TIME: 40 – 60 MINUTES

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

THE FOLLOWING CARE INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD BE FOLLOWED TO ENSURE ALONG LASTING FINISH:

  1. Remove locks, or do not install locks, prior to painting your door.
  2. Periodically clean with mild soap and a soft cloth only. Do not use abrasives or harsh chemicals and avoid the use of sharp objects.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION

ADJUSTABLE LATCH FOR BOTTOM HANDLE


  1. Selecting the Proper Backset

    a. Backset is the distance from the door edge to the center of the 2-1/8” (54mm) hole on the door face
    b. The latch can be adjusted to fit either a 2-3/8″(60 mm) or a 2-3/4″ (70 mm) backset. The 2-3/8″ backset is common for residential doors.
    c. To adjust the backset, move the cam with the square hole towards the latch bolt for 2-3/8”(60mm) backset or towards the rear of the latch for the 2-3/4″(70 mm) backset.


  2. Selecting the Proper Faceplate for the Latch

    a. There are two possibilities for existing latch cutouts in the door edge:
    (1) Square corner cutout. (2) No cutout. Latch hole only.
    The supplied latch can be configured to fit both applications.
    b. The latch is shipped with the square corner faceplate installed and is ready for installation in a door with a (1) Square corner cutout.
    c. To remove the square corner faceplate, pull it off the back of the latch.
    The latch is ready for installation in (2) No cutout- latch hole only.
    ADJUSTABLE LATCH FOR TOP DEADBOLT


  3. Select the Proper Backset

    Backset is the distance from door edge to center of hole on door face.
    (See illustration.) The latch can be adjusted to fit either a 2-3/8”(60 mm) or a 2-3/4″(70 mm) backset, The latch is set at a 2-3/8″ backset from the factory.
    To adjust the backset from 2-3/8″ to 2-3/4″:
    a. Retract the latch bolt.
    b. Hold the latch faceplate in the left hand and the latch tail in the right hand. Twist the latch faceplate clockwise (towards you) about 1/8 turn.
    c. Pull the latch faceplate out towards the left until it stops.
    d. Rotate counterclockwise back into position so the locking notch is engaged in the hole marked 2-3/4″.
    To adjust the backset from 2-3/4″ to 2 -3/8″:
    a. Retract the latch bolt.
    b. Hold the latch faceplate in the left hand and the latch tail in the right hand.
    c. Twist the latch faceplate clockwise (towards you) about 1/8 turn.
    d. While pressing on the end of bolt, push the latch faceplate in towards the right until it stops.
    e. Rotate counterclockwise back into position so that the locking notch is engaged in the hole marked 2-3/8”.


  4. Selecting the Proper Faceplate for the Latch

    a. There are two possibilities for existing latch cutouts in the door edge:
    (1) Square corner cutout. (2) No cutout. Latch hole only.
    The supplied latch can be configured to fit both applications.
    b. The latch is shipped with the square corner faceplate installed and is ready for installation in a door with a (1) Square corner cutout.
    c. To remove the square corner faceplate, pull it off the back of the latch.
    The latch is ready for installation in (2) No cutout- latch hole only.

  5. MARK DOOR
    Use template enclosed to mark holes on door face.

  6. DRILL HOLES
    a. Drill 2-1/8″(54mm) holes from both sides of door.
    b. Drill 1″(25.4mm) holes in door edge for latch.
    c. Drill 3/8″(10mm) hole for exterior handle mounting screw.
    d. To avoid splintering drill holes from both sides.

  7. INSTALL LATCHES
    a. Insert latches in holes, keeping parallel to edge of door. Mark outline and remove latch.
    b. Chisel 5/32”(4mm) deep or until latch face is flush with door edge.
    Note: Cutout must be parallel to edges of door.
    c. Insert bottom latch and secure with wood screws.
    d. Repeat procedure for top deadbolt latch.
    Note the up mark stamped on deadbolt latch.

  8. INSTALL EXTERIOR HANDLE
    Place exterior handle with stems and square spindle into latch as shown. Press tightly against door face.

Install the stud into the appropriate screw hole according to the opening position in the door.

  1. INSTALL INTERIOR MECHANISM

  2. Remove the escutcheon plate

  3. install the handle and tighten the screws

  4. Replace the escutcheon plate

  5. INSTALL CYLINDER DEADLOCK AND TRIM
    FOR SINGLE CYLINDER
    a. Insert cylinder in decorative trim and press against door. Insert tailpiece horizontally through latch hole.
    b. Slide inside mating trim onto tailpiece and secure with machine screws.

  6. MARK JAMB
    a. Close door until latch bolt touches door jamb.
    Mark door jamb as shown with a pencil.
    b. Center the strike plates on the door jamb.

  7. MARK OUTLINE OF STRIKES
    Measure one half of door thickness from door stop and vertically mark drill point center for strike.
    Place strikes in position and mark outline of strike plates.

  8. DRILL HOLES AND INSTALL STRIKES
    a. Drill 1”(25.4mm) hole in door jamb.
    Caution : To assure proper lockset function, holes in door jamb must be drilled 1″(25.4mm) deep.
    b. Chisel outline for strike plates 1/16″(1.5mm) deep or until plates are flush with door jamb.
    c. Install strikes plates and secure with wood screws.

Five-Year Limited Warranty

The manufacturer extends a five-year limited mechanical and finish warranty to the original user of this product against defects in materials and workmanship as long as the user occupies the upon return of a defective product to the manufacturer, the manufacturer shall either replace, repair or refund the purchase price in exchange for the product. This warranty does not cover abused or misused products or those products used in commercial applications. No other warranties expressed or implied are made with respect to the product including but not limited to any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. The manufacturer does not authorize any person to create for it any obligation or liability in connection with the product. The manufacturer’s maximum liability here is to limit the purchase price of the product, and in no event shall the company be liable for any consequential, indirect, incidental or special damages of any nature arising from the sale or use of this product, whether in contract, tort, strict liability or otherwise.

BESTTEN warrants to the original customer that this product is free of defects in materials and workmanship for five years from the purchase date.
Within this period, simply contact BESTTEN CARE with proof of purchase and reason of claim. We will replace the product for free.
