Product Information

The Deco is a network device that provides stable and improved network performance. It is recommended to keep the firmware up to date for optimal usage. There are three methods to update the firmware: via the Deco app, manually via the web UI, or using the upgrade tool. The availability of these methods depends on the Deco model.

Method 1: Update Firmware via the Deco App

  1. Open the Deco app and log in.
  2. Tap on More, then go to System and select Update Deco.
  3. Check if your current firmware is up to date. If not, follow the instructions on the page to update to the latest firmware version.
  4. If the update fails, try rebooting the main Deco and moving the Satellite Deco closer to the main Deco before attempting the update again.

Method 2: Update Firmware Manually via Web UI
Note : This method is only applicable to Deco models that have a web management page.

  1. Access the web management page of your Deco device.
  2. If your model supports this method, follow the instructions provided in the user manual or on the TP-Link website to update the firmware manually.
  3. If your model does not currently support this method, future firmware updates may enable it.

Method 3: Update Firmware via Upgrade Tool
Note : This method is only applicable to Deco M5 and Deco M9 Plus V2 models.

  1. Download the upgrade utility from the TP-Link website and extract the file on your computer.
  2. Log in to the Deco M5 Update Assistant using your TP-Link ID and password that you used to set up the Deco M5 in the Deco app.
  3. Ensure your computer is connected to the main Deco (wired or wireless) and all Deco units are online.
  4. Click on the Scan button to detect the Deco units.
  5. Select the firmware file (bin file) for the Deco M5 from the folder by clicking on Choose File.
  6. Click on Update to start the firmware update process.
  7. Wait for approximately 5 minutes until the Deco completes the update and reboots. The LED light will turn solid green to indicate a successful upgrade.

Additional Notes

  • a) If you encounter issues updating Deco M9 Plus V2 (password incorrect) using the Utility, refer to the FAQ section on the TP-Link website for assistance.
  • b) If your Deco M9 Plus V2 has firmware version 1.4.0 or later, you can update the firmware through the Deco app or the web page at http://tplinkdeco.net.

This Article Applies to:

  • An up-to-date firmware provides better and more stable network performance, so we highly recommend you always update Deco to the latest firmware version.
  • Here are three ways to update the firmware.

Method 1: Update the firmware via the Deco app, which applies to all of the Deco models.

  • Here we take Deco M5 as an example.
  • Log into the Deco app and tap More>System>Update Deco. Here you can see if your current firmware is up to date. If not, please follow the instructions on this page to update the firmware to the latest one.

Tips:
 If the firmware update fails, please reboot the main Deco, move the Satellite Deco closer to the main Deco, then try to update again.

Method 2: Update the firmware manually via the web UI, which applies to the Deco models that have the web management page.

  • Step 1: Go to the Download Center > click on your Deco’s model > select the hardware version of your Deco unit > click on Firmware, then you can download the latest firmware on your computer.

  • Step 2: Unzip the downloaded firmware and you will see a bin file.
    Refer to the link to log into the web management page of your Deco. If you fail to log into the web page, please refer to the link to troubleshoot.

  • Step 3: On the web management page, click on Advanced > System > Firmware Upgrade, select your Deco’s model, then click on BROWSE to select the bin file, and then click on UPGRADE to update the firmware.

Note : Currently, some Deco models do not support the web management page, but don’t worry, they will support the web page via firmware updates in the future.

Method 3: Update the firmware via the upgrade tool, which only applies to Deco M5 and Deco M9 Plus V2.

  • Here we take Deco M5 as an example.

  • Step 1 Please refer to the link below to download the upgrade utility on your computer.

    For the Deco M9 Plus V2, please refer to the link below. https://www.tp- link.com/support/download/deco-m9-plus/v2/#Utility

  • Step 2 Log in to Deco M5 Update Assistant with your TP-Link ID and password that you used to set up the Deco M5 in the Deco app.

  • Step 3 Ensure the computer is connected to the main Deco (either wired or wireless) and all the Deco units are online. Then click on the Scan button.

  • Step 4 After the Update Assistant found the Deco units, click on Next.

  • Step 5 Click on Choose File, select the firmware of the Deco M5 in this folder (the bin file).

  • Step 6 Click on Update.

  • Step 7 Wait for about 5 minutes till Deco completes the update and reboot. The LED light will finally turn to solid green, indicating that the upgrade has been done successfully.
