PRODUCT

Product Information

The Infrared Refrigerant Leak Detector is a device designed to detect leaks in refrigerant systems. It features a sensitive sensor that can detect refrigerant leaks and display the leak concentration on its LCD screen. The detector has various buttons and indicators to provide information about the alarm status, peak value, sensitivity level, selected refrigerant, battery level, and charging status. It also has a peak function that records and displays the maximum detected leak value.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Press the power button to turn on the detector. Wait for the warm-up countdown to reach the optimal detection status. This process takes approximately 30 seconds.
  2. Press the SENS button to adjust the sensitivity level according to your preference. The default sensitivity level is high.
  3. Press the REF button to select the desired refrigerant. The default selection is ALL REF (all refrigerants).
  4. Visually inspect the refrigerant system for potential leak points such as joints in refrigerant lines, areas with changes in cross-section, and areas with changes in vertical section. Check all lines, hoses, fittings, couplings, and service valves for signs of lubricant leak, damage, and corrosion.
  5. Slowly move the probe along the suspected leak areas, maintaining a distance of no more than 0.25/6mm from the leak areas. Sweeping back and forth at a rate of about 3 ft/s or 75 mm/s can improve the chances of detecting a leak.
  6. The detector will indicate detected leaks through both an audible alarm and the LCD display. The alarm sound will increase in proportion to the leak intensity, and the graph on the display will rise from bottom to top accordingly.

Battery Charging & Maintenance:

To charge the detector’s battery, use a DC 5V/1A power adapter. The charging indicator will turn red when the battery is being charged and blue when it is fully charged. It is recommended not to store the detector for more than 6 months due to self-discharging.

Filter Replacement:

The detector is equipped with a filter that blocks large particle contaminants and moisture to reduce false alarms caused by excessive humidity. Replace the filter when it becomes seriously polluted and appears black and clogged.

BUTTONS & DISPLAY

BUTTONS

  • : Press and hold for 2 seconds to turn on the detector; press again to turn it off
  • SENS: Press to select the preferred sensitivity level (low, medium, and high)
  • MUTE: Press to turn on/off the buzzer
  • REF: Press to select ALL REF (default setting), R134a, R404a, R407C, R410A or R1234yf
  • PEAK: Press and release to mark or unmark the maximum leak. If unmarked, the peak value will be cleared

DISPLAY

  1. ALARM: Indicates alarm status. red icon: disabled; green icon: enabled

  2. PEAK VALUE: Indicates the maximum detected leak
Note: PEAK function must be on or it will not show peak value

  3. LEAK VALUE: Indicates the current detected leak. The higher the leak concentration, the higher the bars

  4. SENSITIVITY LEVEL: Displays current sensitivity level. 3 levels are available for different needs. H: high sensitivity; M: medium sensitivity; L: low sensitivity

  5. SMART SENSOR: Displays current refrigerant selection

  6. BATTERY LEVEL: Displays current battery level

  7. Green: full battery; Yellow: low battery; Red: extreme-low battery, please charge as soon as possible

  8. PEAK ON/OFF: Indicates peak function status. The display shows on or off to indicate whether the peak function is enabled or disabled (turning off-peak will clear all recorded peak values).

  9. Charging and status indicatorMasterCool-55600-A-INT-INST-Infrared-Refrigerant-Leak-Detector-FIG-1 \(3\)

OPERATION

  • ALERT: If the sensor is faulty, the display will pop up: “Error: Sensor”
  • WARM-UP COUNTDOWN: Please wait for about 30 seconds until the warm-up finishes
  • When in the presence of a high concentration of gas and the unit is acting erratically, remove the detector from this environment for 60 seconds and the unit will automatically reset.

WARNING!

  • Please keep moving the device during detection. This unit is designed to detect the relative concentration of gases, if the detected concentration remains unchanged in the stationary environment, it will not be able to pinpoint the leak.
  • Please ensure the system pressure is at least above 340 Kpa (50 psi) before detection as many refrigerant leaks can’t be detected at low pressure.
  • Do not place the detector close to organic solvents, detergents, or high-voltage power supplies. Please wipe up the detectors with a clean towel.
  • Before starting, please confirm the battery is sufficiently charged (it normally takes about 30 minutes for one detection).
  1. Press to turn on the detector. Wait for the warm-up countdown in order to reach the optimal detection status. It takes about 30 seconds before it enters the main interface.
  2. Press the SENS button to adjust to your preferred sensitivity level (the default level is high).
  3. Press the REF button to select the desired refrigerant (the default is ALL REF).
  4. Locate the places that are most likely to have refrigerant leaks, such as joints in refrigerant lines, points that have changes in cross-section, and points that have changes in vertical section. Visually trace the entire refrigerant system for all lines, hoses, fittings, couplings, service valves, etc. for signs of lubricant leak, damage, and corrosion as the likely leak points.
  5. Move the probe slowly (about 3 ft/s or 75 mm/s) at these suspicious places, and move back and forth but no more than 0.25”/6m m away from the leak areas.
    • NOTE: A closer probe position and slower “sweeping” movement usually improve the possibility of finding a leak.
  6. The alarm and LCD display will indicate the detected leak at the same time:
    • ALARM: The sound will increase in proportion to the leak intensity. The faster the alarm beeps, the higher the leak that has been detected.
    • LCD DISPLAY: The graph will increase from bottom to top in proportion to leak intensity. The higher the bar graph rises, the higher the leak that has been detected.

BATTERY & FILTER

BATTERY CHARGING AND MAINTENANCE WARNING!

  • Avoid complete charging and discharging frequently, otherwise, it may affect battery life.
  • Do not disable the built-in rechargeable lithium battery.
  • If the detector will not be used for a long time, please charge it beforehand to prevent battery life from reducing due to self-discharging. Not recommended to store for more than 6 months.
  1. Use a DC 5V/1A power adapter to charge the detector. Charging indicator in red: the battery is charging now; Charging indicator in blue: the battery is fully charged.

FILTER REPLACEMENT

The filter can block large particle contaminants and moisture to reduce false alarms caused by excessive humidity. Please replace the filter when it is seriously polluted (black and clogged).

Follow the steps below:

  1. Unscrew the protection cover counter-clockwise and remove the contaminated filter (do not pull out the rubber holder, or it may open the circuit of the air tube).
  2. Place a new filter and screw the protection cover clockwise.
    • WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, lead, and lead compounds, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
