Product Usage Instructions
-
Put the ionizer on a flat table with the back side upwards. Both ends of the anode have a hole, screw the anode clockwise with the smaller hole at the center of the ionizer base.
-
Surround the anode with the coil spring from the top. Make sure it stands straight.
-
Place the basket over the coil spring and the anode with slight pressure. This will make the spring bend a little. Align the hole of the basket to the hole of the anode end.
-
Thread the screw clockwise into the anode and tighten. Do not over-tighten because the screw may break.
Note: You can replace the silicone band when it is dirty or broken. The purpose of the basket is to trap any deposits or residues which may form on the anode during normal operation. The basket prevents particles from falling into the water.
How to Use the Ionizer: -
Occasionally use the test strip to detect the presence of copper ions in the water. This lets you know whether the water has a balanced level of minerals.
-
The target ion level is 0.3 ppm (parts per million). Use the test strip according to the instructions on the bottle to ensure the ion level is within this range.
-
If the ion reading is over 0.5 ppm, remove the ionizer from the pool for a few days. Once the level drops to 0.3 ppm, put the ionizer back in the pool.
-
If the ion level maintains at 0.3 ppm, continue floating the ionizer in the pool all day. The ppm will gradually stabilize with daily use.

HOW DOES THE IONIZER WORK?
Using a safe and effective low-power output, the solar pool ionizer produces
ionization in pool water to prevent algae from growing. Ionization is an
electrolytic process that introduces positively charged ions of copper into
your pool water. This process transforms your water into biologically healthy
and algae-resistant mineral water. The mineral ions coupled with a small
amount of chlorine are effective as a method for preventing algae and
bacteria. The sacrificial anode is designed to slowly erode away and in the
process will form buildup which will require occasional cleaning and
replacement.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE IONIZER?
- Put the ionizer on a flat table with the back side upwards. Both ends of the anode have a hole, screw the anode clockwise with the smaller hole at the center of the ionizer base.
- Surround the anode with the coil spring from the top. Make sure it stands straight.
- Place the basket over the coil spring and the anode with slight pressure. This will make the spring bend a little. Align the hole of the basket to the hole of the anode end.
- Thread the screw clockwise into the anode and tighten. Do not over-tighten because the screw may break.
Note:
- You can replace the silicone band when it is dirty or broken.
- The purpose of the basket is to trap any deposits or residues which may form on the anode during normal operation. The basket prevents particles from falling into the water.
HOW DO I USE THE IONIZER?
Please make sure you have the correct number of units for your pool. One unit is good for up to 35,000 gallons of water. You may need two or more depending on your pool size.
- Before using the ionizer, clear the pool water to eliminate most of the algae. The ionizer can’t kill current algae so please use a dose of oxidizer/chlorine according to the pool condition before using the unit.
- Simply leave the ionizer in your pool under direct sunlight. It needs at least 4-5 hours in the sun for the solar panel to work.
- Do not use any other chemicals in your pool. The process needs a few weeks to see differences and other chemicals in your water may affect the performance. Please be patient.
- The solar pool ionizer works well at higher pH values, so do not attempt to adjust the pH if it is within this recommended range of 7.2-7.8. Allow the water to settle down and seek its own balanced condition.
- Higher chlorine levels may be required with increased water temperature, rainfall, or if new water is added. If using liquid chlorine, add it at or after sundown because sunlight quickly neutralizes chlorine.
ION TESTING
Occasionally use the test strip to detect the presence of the copper ion,
which lets you know whether the water has a balanced level of minerals. The
general idea is to use your solar pool ionizer at a proper frequency to
maintain an adequate ion level. Allow the water to settle down and seek its
own balanced condition.
- See instructions on the test strip bottle.
- The target is 0.3 ppm (the test strip should read between 0.1 and 0.5 on the bottle) then it begins to work to reduce chlorine.
- If the ion reading is over 0.5 ppm, remove the ionizer from the pool for a few days.
- Once the level drops to 0.3 ppm, put the ionizer in the pool again.
If the ion level maintains at 0.3 ppm, then continue floating it all day. The ppm will gradually be stable with daily use.
CLEANING
The anode will slowly corrode and turna bluish/green color which means it is working. The coil spring will also accumulate particles over the ionization process.
Anode Cleaning
Flip the unit onto a soft surface such as grass (you may have a trash bag
underneath the unit) and gently remove the screw and basket from the anode.
Remove the anode from the unit and give it a little scrub with the wire brush
provided to remove accumulation. It doesn’t have to be perfectly clean. After
cleaning, screw it back in and reassemble the ionizer, then put it back in the
pool.
Note:
- It is easier to clean when the anode is wet.
- Check and clean the anode every 1-2 weeks. Heavy accumulations may affect the ionization process.
- After an average of 12-24 months, depending on conditions, when the anode is “pencil thin” or about 1/4 inch at its thinnest point, the anode requires replacement.
Basket Cleaning
We highly recommend cleaning the basket once a month or more frequently
according to the accumulation. If the basket is full, the particles will go
into water which will be difficult to clean. Also, deposits can slowly block
and restrict water flow since the mesh is very fine.
- Rinse out loose debris in the basket.
- Immerse the basket in a bowl of white vinegar until visually free of blue/white scale buildup. Do not exceed 1 minute of soaking as it could soften the plastic.
- Rinse it and reinstall.
Coil Spring Cleaning
Remove the spring from the ionizer and immerse it in a bowl of white vinegar
overnight. You can then wipe off the coil or use the metal brush to clean it.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Q: Can I use a metal screw if I misplace or break the screw it comes
with?
A: NO. A metal screw will interfere with the ionization process. It must
be non-metallic. Contact support if you have lost the screw.
Q: I don’t think it’s working.
A: Put the ionizer into a clear glass of water under sunlight. After a
few seconds, you should see bubbles form. The bubbles will look almost like
“mist” coming off of the coils. This demonstrates that an electrical current
is being generated.
Q: Why are there brown spots in my pool and how to remove them?
A: Do not allow the copper content of the water to go significantly above
the target range upper limit of 0.5 ppm. High copper levels can tinge the
water green and copper can begin to form on solid surfaces. Please take out
the ionizer and use other pool cleaners to remove them. Detect the ion level
and clean the basket more often to avoid these spots.
