Placing ECOHEAT
The place where the system will be installed should allow an easy access in order to make maintenance work or inspection; It is recommended to meet the following minimum distances in the enclosure:

Indol-EH160-EcoHeat-Refrigerant-Heat-Pump-fig- \(10\)

The equipment has been designed for indoor installation. The enclosure must be equipped with the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum temperature 7 ºC.
  • Adequate water and electricity supplies.
  • Drainpipes to discharge water in case of emptying the tank, using the safety valve or breaking the hydraulic circuit; in addition, for the condensation water outlet connection.
  • For potential major water leaks, a containment system or procedure.
  • Sufficient illumination.
  • Volumetric capacity not less than 30 m3. Otherwise, adequate minimum ventilation must be ensured.
  • Dry and protected from frost.

The air outlet temperature of the device is approximately 5-10°C below the inlet temperature.  So, in case that the exhaust air would not be ducted, the room temperature will be considerably reduced. Besides these factors, it is important to consider the following guidelines regarding the location:

  • The surface where the unit will be installed must be capable of supporting its weight. Moreover, it should be flat or have a maximum inclination of 2º.
  • Since the equipment may cause vibrations or noise, it is recommended to install it away from resting areas.
  • Installer must install the supplied Silent blocks to avoid the transmission of vibration.

There are other possible connection options; as some examples below:

  • Connection to recirculation
  • Connection to thermal solar installation
  • Connection to support existing DHW equipment (heater, boiler, etc.)

In case the recirculation connection, it is recommended to install a timer on the return recirculation pump. Once the hydraulic connections are made, vent the circuit to avoid the air inside the installation.

Condensate drain
The condensation in the evaporator could produce a constant water flow that has to be drained properly; also, to avoid unwanted odours of equipment in ambient air. The condensate drain is in the back or in the front of the system. (Illustration 5, H). Connect the condensate drain to the wastewater network making a siphon through a flexible tube with inner diameter 20 mm. Ensure that water can flow freely

Air connection
The ECOHEAT unit has two air connections located on the top cover of the equipment. There are different connection possibilities, as shown below, which can be installed in compliance with the current regulations. However, the cold air outlet must always be ducted to the outside of the enclosure, except when it is in technical room.

60-EcoHeat-Refrigerant-Heat-Pump-fig- \(12\)

There is the possibility of ducting the cold air to a specific area for cooling. Through a damper, it can be redirected outside when cooling that area is not necessary. The ECOHEAT design provides the option to choose between 3 different pipe diameters for air ducting. The selection of the pipe size to be used is at the discretion of the installer/technician responsible for the design and calculation of the installation.

Indol-EH160-EcoHeat-Refrigerant-Heat-Pump-fig- \(13\)

When ducting air connection, the tube which will be used for must be rigid PVC or a material with similar stability.

For the accessories, the following table is provided with the equivalent distance of pressure drop. The values are calculated for the total length of suction and air discharge ducts. Special attention should be given when installing the following elements and their pressure drop:

  • Corrugated pipe for air conduction
  • Anti-insect grids on the end of air inlet and outlet tubes

To prevent condensation, it is recommended to insulate the air evacuation pipes and air duct connections with a vapor-tight thermal coating.

Suction filter
The system includes in the air inlet a filter for the protection of all the elements of the refrigeration circuit. If you notice that the system does not heat up, check the condition of the filter. A clogged filter affects the life- cycle performance and hot water production of the system. The filter can be removed and cleaned as indicated in the Maintenance section.

Electrical connection
The power supply of the system is 230 V /1 PH /50 Hz. The unit must be connected to minimum a 10 A power socket with proper earthing. The connections are lodged in a sealed electrical box according to regulations for isolated containment of the electrical components of the refrigerant. The electric strip is an element that can be manipulated inside the electrical box. Before performing any wiring work on the electrical circuit, disconnect the power supply and ensure that there is no residual energy in it. An incomplete earthing connection can cause malfunction or electrical shock. Before making the electrical connections, follow the instructions below to verify it:

  1. Check the socket and connector are dry,
  2. Plug in and leave the equipment connected to the supply for half an hour.
  3. Disconnect the equipment and check the status of the It should not be too hot (+50 ºC).
  4. If it does not work well, you should change the socket or connect the unit in a different one..

The electrical connections must always be made without voltage, only by authorized installers and in compliance with the current national electrical regulations.  If the power cord supplied with the appliance is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, their authorized service agent or a person with equivalent experience to avoid any potential hazards.

Operating modes

Eco mode
Eco stands for economic, so maximum savings. The system heats water only by heat pump technology. This is the default mode. The water temperature setpoint in Eco mode can be changed with the “SP1” parameter.

Indol-EH160-EcoHeat-Refrigerant-Heat-Pump-fig- 49

Modo Auto
It remains a steady temperature by the heat pump and only use the electrical heater if the temperature falls drastically. The water temperature setpoint in Auto mode can be changed with the “SP2” parameter

Indol-EH160-EcoHeat-Refrigerant-Heat-Pump-fig- 50

Overboost mode
This mode achieves a fast heating by using simultaneously heat pump and electric heater. This mode works to get hot water quicker than using other operating modes. Once setpoint temperature has been reached, initial mode will get back:

  • If Overboost is activated while Eco mode is operating: The equipment heats up to the temperature SP1, and then returns to Eco mode.
  • If Overboost is activated while Auto mode is operating: The equipment heats  up to the temperature SP2, and then returns to Auto mode. When the Overboost mode is active, the display alternately shows the tank temperature and Obs.

Parameter “SP3” is used to select the minimum temperature at which the Overboost mode can operate:

Indol-EH160-EcoHeat-Refrigerant-Heat-Pump-fig- 51

Ventilation mode
The ventilation mode is an additional function in ECOHEAT that allows better air circulation in the dwelling through a special setting of the fan. This mode is disabled by default.

Once configurated, 2 settings are available:

  • “FNC”: Choose the fan speed when the compressor is running.
  • “FCF”: Set ventilation mode when the compressor is not working.

In both settings 2 speeds are available: low (“LoU”) and high (“HiG”). In “FCF” settig also turning off this mode is possible (“OFF”).You can configure any of the 2 settings at any time: for example, put the “FCF” configuration when the compressor is still running. The set configuration will start to work when the equipment is started that way.

Photovoltaic input
Working on this mode, the system automatically heats the water due to electric energy surplus or by off-peak rate. The parameters of this mode can only be configured from the installer menu. Contact the technician if you want to make any modifications. The system can be combined with and photovoltaic inverter to use the surplus energy generated by the panels, by forcing the system working and storing this energy in useful hot water. The system has in the electric board two terminals to connect a zero-voltage contact.

  • When the contact is closed, the photovoltaic function (“SP6”) and the heat pump are automatically activated, and the heating element operates together until the photovoltaic setpoint temperature is reached.
  • Once the contact is open, the equipment returns to its previous operating mode.

These terminals can also be used to take advantage of reduced tariffs. Connect a time switch with a voltage-free contact to the terminals.

Anti-legionella mode
The anti-legionella feature reduces the risk of development of bacteria in the tank. The system performs a thermal shock disinfection to avoid any risk conditions that might cause the development of bacteria. The disinfection is performed automatically, reaching a temperature of 70°C.

Anti-legionella can be disabled or enabled in the installer menu, but it is highly not recommended:

  1. Press button and “Ant” will turn on the screen.
  2. Press button to start.

The anti-legionella mode cannot be cancelled once it is activated. If the equipment is disconnected from the power supply, the anti-legionella timer will reset, and the equipment will perform disinfection before the set time again.

Manual reset
In case of an electrical failure in the automatic reset of the ECOHEAT thermostat, it is possible to perform this task manually following the instructions below:

  1. Remove the front cover.
  2. Press once the button on the side of the electrical box.

Once done, the equipment should be put back into operation as usual.

In general, any condition that exceeds the maximum allowed values

  • Fault due to galvanic corrosion result from direct connection of copper pipes without electrolytic sleeve.
  • Installation of the product in a manner not in accordance with the operating  instructions.
  • Damages result from problems that could not be detectable due to the location of the system (hardly accessible place) and that could have been avoided by a prompt reparation of the product.
  • Switch on the heating system without filling the tank (dry heating).
  • Any modification of the product without prior agreement with the manufacturer or use  spare parts non-authorized or non-supplied by the manufacturer.Based on these considerations, the warranty comprises in replacing the faulty component to the Installer or Distributor. Transport cost, labour or any compensation are excluded from the warranty.
