Getting Started
The chapter provides basic information on how to use your WM800 RSM.

Attaching the Battery}
Perform the following actions to attach the battery to the WM800 RSM body.

  1. Align the bottom part of the battery to the WM800 RSM body.
  2. Push the battery towards the WM800 RSM body.
    NOTE: Press firmly in the middle to ensure both latches snap in place and fully locked.

Detaching the Battery
Perform the following actions to detach the battery from the WM800 RSM body.

  1. Pinch the battery latch simultaneously.
  2. Detach the battery from the WM800 RSM body.

Recommended Wearing Positions
Refer to the provided figures for recommended wearing positions of the WM800 RSM.

Locking the Tethering Kit Accessory
Perform the following actions to lock the tethering kit accessory.

  1. Align and mate the two connector ends. You will feel a loaded spring force during insertion.
  2. Rotate clockwise until the two connector ends are locked.

Unlocking the Tethering Kit Accessory
Perform the following actions to unlock the tethering kit accessory.

  1. Rotate counterclockwise to unlock the tethering kit accessory.
  2. Pull and disconnect the connector ends.

Status Indications

Prerequisites: Ensure your WM800 RSM in idle state and charging.

Procedure

  • Press the Power button for less than one second.
  • When checking the Sign of Life, observe the following indications

WM800 RSM General Operations
Powering the WM800 RSM On or Off

Procedure

  1. To turn on the WM800 RSM, press and hold the Power button until you hear the “Power On” voice prompt.
  2. To turn off the WM800 RSM, press and hold the Power button until the radio power down tone is heard.
  3. Observe the following sequence when turning WM800 RSM on or off

WM800 RSM Pairing

  • Pairing Your WM800 RSM Through Bluetooth
  • Prerequisites : Ensure that your WM800 RSM is off.

Procedure

  1. Press and hold the Power button until you hear the “Power On” followed by “Searching for Host” voice prompt and the Audio or Bluetooth LED blinks blue.

  2. From the compatible device, search and select WM800_xxxx from the Bluetooth list.
    You hear the “Connected” voice prompt and Pairing tone plays when the devices successfully paired.

  3. If the pairing is unsuccessful, the WM800 RSM remains in pairing mode. You can repeat step 2 to attempt pairing again.

NOTE: The WM800 RSM pairing mode times out in two minutes.

Pairing Your WM800 RSM Through Secure NFC (recommended for higher security level)
Prerequisites: Ensure that your WM800 is off.

Procedure

  1. Press and hold the Power button until you hear the “Power On” followed by “Searching for Host” voice prompt and see that the Audio or Bluetooth LED blinks blue.
  2. Open the NFC widget and follow the instruction on the radio to complete the pairing process.
  3. Align the NFC tag from the WM800 RSM and the M logo at the back of the radio together until you hear a beep tone (successful detection), but not successfully paired.

Observe the following in the radio and WM800 for a successful pairing

  • The WM800 has short beeps until the devices are successfully paired.
  • You hear the “Connected” voice prompt (if Language is selected).
  • The Audio or Bluetooth LED blinks blue after a successful connection.

If pairing is unsuccessful, the WM800 returns to pairing mode.

NOTE: The WM800 pairing mode times out in two minutes.

WM800 RSM Auto Power Off
In pairing mode, WM800 RSM turns off automatically to save battery life. When WM800 RSM initiates Auto Power Off, observe the following sequence

  • You hear the following voice prompt : “Searching for Host.”
  • WM800 RSM enters the idle state if there is no button interaction and no device found. After a certain duration, observe the following sequence

  • If you press the Power button, you hear the following voice prompt : “RSM Battery ” or “.” The WM800 RSM restarts the Auto Power Off sequence.
  • If there is no interaction on Power button, WM800 RSM automatically turns off at 120 seconds.
  • You can observe the following sequence
    • Power or Battery LED blinks green twice then stop.
    • You hear the following voice prompt or tone
  • “Power Off ” (if WM800 RSM set to Language).
  • “Power Off” tone plays (if WM800 RSM is set to Tone).
    • WM800 RSM automatically shuts down to save battery life.

Subsequent Connection
When Bluetooth link is lost, WM800 RSM and paired host automatically reestablish connection when close to each other.

Connecting to Same Host
If WM800 RSM is paired through Bluetooth, the connection automatically reestablishes when power up.
If WM800 RSM is paired through Secure NFC, refer to Pairing Your WM800 RSM Through Secure NFC (recommended for higher security level) on .

Connecting to New Host
WM800 RSM must be in Pairing Mode by pressing Power button and PTT button simultaneously. Refer to WM800 RSM Pairing on page 29.

Removing Paired Devices
Prerequisites: Ensure that your WM800 RSM is turned off.

Procedure

  1. Press and hold the PTT button and the Power button simultaneously for five seconds.
  2. When your WM800 RSM starts clearing the pairing list, you can observe the following sequence
  • You hear the following voice prompts : “Power On”, “Pairing Clear”, (if WM800 RSM is set to Voice Prompt).
  • “Power On Tone”, “Clear Pairing Tone”, and “Connections Status Tone” plays (if WM800 RSM is set to Tone)
  • Your WM800 RSM enters the pairing state after clearing paired host devices.

NOTE: WM800 RSM automatically turns off after two minutes in pairing mode.

Setting Voice Prompt
Prerequisites: Ensure that your WM800 RSM is turned on and not connected to any host device.

Procedure

  1. Press the Two-Dot Programmable button.
  2. Select Language or Tone.

NOTE: If connection loss happens, this selection is not available. Unpair or disconnect the WM800 RSM from the host device.

Setting Tone
Prerequisites: Ensure that your WM800 is turned on and not connected to any host device.

Procedure

  1. Press the Two-Dot Programmable button.

  2. Select Language or Tone.
    NOTE: If connection loss happens, this selection is not available. Unpair or disconnect the RSM from the host device.

  3. Initiate “tone” voice prompt.

Result: WM800 starts voice prompt for tone. You can now configure WM800 to generate tone prompts only.

Setting Volume
You can change up to 16 volume levels in the WM800. When using the device for the first time, the volume is set to the default level upon powering up. The device retains the previously set volume level for subsequent uses.

Procedure

  1. To decrease the volume, short press the – button. Press and hold the – to continuously decrease the device volume until it reaches the minimum level.
  2. To increase the volume, short press the + button. Press and hold the + to continuously increase the device volume until it reaches the maximum level.

Using the Task Light
Prerequisites: Ensure that your WM800 RSM is on or in the connected state.

Procedure

  1. Press the Task Light button for one second to turn on or off the task light.
  2. If the task light is on, the task light LED shows solid white. If the task light is off, the task light LED is off.

NOTE

  • The task light blinks for 30 seconds and is automatically switched off during low or critical battery capacity moments.
  • The task light is off when WM800 RSM is entering Dark Mode.

Activating Dark Mode
Dark Mode allows you to turn off the LEDs on the WM800 RSM. In Dark Mode, all indications are turned off by the WM800 RSM.

Procedure

  1. Press and hold the Task Light button until Dark Mode is turned on.
  2. The task light blinks for one second after entering or exiting Dark Mode.

NOTE: To disable the Dark Mode feature, press the Task Light button for three seconds.

Using Task Light in Dark Mode

Procedure

Perform one of the following steps

Turning on the task light when in Dark Mode. a. Press and hold the

Task Light button to turn on the task light.
Entering Dark Mode when the Task Light is on.| a. Press and hold the Task Light button for three sec- onds.

When entering dark mode, you can observe the following sequence

  • Power or Battery LED blinks green twice.
  • Audio or Bluetooth LED blinks blue twice and then stop blinking.
  • Task light blinks white twice and then stop blinking.
  • “Dark Mode On” tone plays (if WM800 RSM is set to Tone).
  • “Lights Off” voice prompt plays (if Language is selected).

Activating Covert Mode

Procedure

Perform one of the following steps

If you are… Then, you…
Activating Covert Mode from RSM. a. Press and hold the Task Light

button for three sec- onds.
Activating Covert Mode from paired Host Device.| a. Do not press any button on RSM. RSM automatically follows the mode on paired Host device.

When in covert mode, you can observe the following sequence

  • If paired Host Device does not supports covert mode, RSM enters the dark mode.
  • Depending on the Host Device codeplug, either LED or Voice Prompt turns off, or both in combination.
  • All charging LEDs switched on when WM800 RSM is charging or connected to power source using a USB or a Dual-Unit Charger.
  • ViQi voice prompts stay disabled.
  • Audio and voice prompts stay enabled on the earpiece (SAD).

Activating Secure Mode or Open Mode
You can use the WM800 RSM at the highest security level by activating Secure Mode. Pair the WM800 RSM through Secure NFC to use it in Secure Mode. Activating Secure Mode will clear all pairing information. You will not be able to deactivate Secure Mode using the same button operation.

Prerequisites: Ensure that your WM800 RSM is in powered down state.

Procedure

  1. Press and hold Power button, Two-Dot button, and Three-Dot button simultaneously for more than two seconds.
    You hear the following voice prompts : “Entering Secure Pairing Mode, press PTT to confirm.”

  2. Perform one of the following steps

If you press… Then,
press the PTT button. You observe the following indications
  • Power or Battery LED blinks green for one second.
  • Audio or Bluetooth LED turns solid blue during connection status.
  • You hear the following voice prompts
  • “Power on,” RSM Battery,” “Status,” Secure Connection Status” (if Language is selected).

  • WM800 RSM returns to powered down state. You hear the following voice prompts

Powering up WM800 RSM in Secure Mode

Prerequisites: Ensure that your WM800 RSM is turned off and in secure mode.

Procedure

  1. Press and hold Power button for two seconds.
  2. When your WM800 RSM is powering up, observe the following sequence
  • Power or Battery LED blinks green for one second.
  • Audio or Bluetooth LED exhibits the following state
    • Turns solid blue when connection status is “Disconnected” or “Reconnecting.”
    • Blinks blue twice when connection status is in Pairing Mode.
  • You hear the following voice prompts
    • “Power on, RSM Battery “Status,” Secure” “Connection status” (if Language is selected).
    • “Power On” tone and “Secure Pairing Mode On” tone plays (if RSM is set to Tone).

Activating Voice Control

Prerequisites: Ensure that your WM800 RSM is turned on and connected to a radio supporting voice assistance (ViQi) feature.

Procedure

  1. Press and hold the Three-Dot Programmable button. “VC Ready” tone plays on the WM800 RSM speaker.
  2. Speak voice command on the RSM for ViQi to initiate command.
  3. Release the Three-Dot Programmable button.

You hear the voice control feedback based on your command.

Secondary Audio Accessory
When a secondary accessory is plugged into the audio jack, the audio routes through a secondary accessory.

Attaching Secondary Audio Accessory

Prerequisites
CAUTION: To avoid possible injury to your hearing, you must set the Extra Loud Earpiece Compatible setting in the Motorola Accessories Programming Software (APS).

Procedure

1. Lift up the dust cover and rotate 90°.
2. Insert the secondary audio accessory to 3.5 mm audio jack.

Button Bad Bonks
WM800 RSM responds with the Bad Bonk tone indicating that the interaction is not valid.

Failure Detected Indication and Handling
When any product error occurs, you can observe the following sequence

  • Power or Battery LED blinks red, until your RSM power off.
  • Audio or Bluetooth LED blinks red.
  • Depending on the error, you can hear the following voice prompt or tone
    • “Failure Detected” (if WM800 RSM is set to Voice Prompt)
    • “Fatal Error” tone (if WM800 RSM is set to Tone).

Troubleshooting

When your RSM is unable to reestablish wireless connection or operating incorrectly, perform the following actions.

Procedure

  1. Power cycle the RSM and the paired Host Device.
  2. Repeat the pairing process.

Operating Instructions
The charger pockets accommodate WM800 RSM with an attached Motorola Solutions- approved battery or a Motorola Solutions-approved battery alone. Batteries charge best at room temperature.

Procedure

  1. Plug the charger end of the power supply cord into the power receptacle at the side of the charger.
  2. Plug the wall receptacle end of the power supply cord into the appropriate AC outlet.
    • single green blink on the charger indicator indicates successful power-up sequence.
  3. Insert the device with a battery or a stand-alone battery into the charger pocket.
    • Align the WM800 RSM or battery contacts with the contacts in the charger pocket.
    • Press the radio or battery into the pocket to ensure complete contact between charger and radio or battery contacts.

Charging Indication
The following table is only applicable when a stand-alone battery is charged in the battery charging pocket. When charging the battery with device, refer to the display and the LED charging indicator of the device.

You can also charge the WM800 RSM directly using a USB-C power cable.

Procedure

  1. Align the USB-C port on the bottom part of the WM800 RSM with the charger end of the USB-C power cable.
  2. Plug in the charger end of the USB-C power cable into the USB-C port.
