Professional with service information for the “Whirlpool®, Amana®, and Maytag®
9 cu ft and 16 cu ft Chest Freezer .”
The Wiring Diagram use d in this Technical Manual is typical and should be use
d for training purposes only.
Always use the Wiring Diagram supplied with the product when se rvicing the
freeze r.
For specific operating and installation information on the model being se
revised, refer to the literature provided with the freezer.

The goal of this Technical Manual is to provide information that will enable
the In-Home Service Professional to properly diagnose malfunctions and repair
the “Whirlpool®, Amana®, and Maytag® 9 cu ft and 16 cu ft Chest Freezer.”

Product Features
Allow the freezer to cool 6 to 8 hours before filling with frozen food.
- When the freeze r is first started, the compress or will run constantly until the cabinet is cooled. It may take 6 to 8 hours (or longer), depending on room temperature and the number of times the freeze r lid is opened.
- After the cabinet is cooled, the compress or will turn on and off as needed to keep the freezer at the proper temperature.
- The outside of your freeze r may fee l warm. This is normal.
The freeze r’s des ign and main function is to remove heat from the contents and air inside the freezer. The heat is transferred to the room air, making the outside of the freeze r feel warm.
Control Panel
The exact configuration of the control panel may vary according to the model.
- Temperature adjustment thermostat.
- Red light (if provided): indicates that the temperature inside the product is not low enough.
- Green LED (if provided): when lit, indicates that the appliance is running.
Temperature Adjustment
Use the thermostat to select the ideal storage temperature. This product could
be use d both as freeze r and as refrigerator.
Freezer Use:
- To use the product as freeze r se t thermostat in position “freezer”. In this case the product must be use d to store froze n food, to freeze fresh food and to make ice. Internal temperature could be se t between 6.8°F (-14°C) and -7.6°F (-22°C) (depending on the environmental conditions, this range may vary slightly).
- To use the product as refrigerator se t thermostat in position “refrigerator”. In this case the product must be use d to store fresh food and beverages . Internal temperature could be set between 33.8°F (1°C) and 41°F (5°C) (depending on the environmental conditions, this range may vary slightly).
- To turn off the product se t thermostat in OFF position. In this case the product is already connected to power supply
Refrigerator Use:
Before switching from freeze r use to refrigerator use follow:
- Check that froze n food is not prese nt inside the cavity to avoid unwanted food defrosting.
- Defrost and clean the product to avoid water stagnation on the bottom.
NOTE: In the case of high levels of humidity, it is possible that inside the appliance condensation may form on both the walls and the bottom of the compartment. This is absolutely natural and does not jeopardies the operation of the appliance in any way.
Chest Freezer Food Storage:
- 1-3 months suggested for bread, fish and ice-cream
- 4-7 months suggested for poultry, citrus and beef
- 8-12 months for pork, vegetables and fruit

Remove one (1) screw holding compress or grid in place.

Remove compress or grid.

Replace all parts and panels before operating.

Locate the thermostat casing.

Locate the marked hole from underneath.

Use a standard screwdriver to release the tab.+
-
From the front of the unit, pull out on left side of Control Panel.
-
Slide panel to the left to remove.
Thermostat Removal
Electrical Shock Hazard
Disconnect power before servicing.
Replace all parts and panels before operating.
Failure to do so can result in death or electrical shock.

Remove the 5.5 mm or 732 hex head screw.
-
Remove the thermostat housing.
-
Pull on knob to remove.
-
Remove 14 mm or 916 nut.
-
Pull up on wire retainer to loose n and remove the thermostat, then remove four (4) wires
