It requires three AAA batteries for operation, and alkaline batteries are recommended for optimal performance. The Otamatone has various features, including volume and octave selection switches, a power/volume control switch, and an OTM Link for connecting to a smartphone or tablet. It also offers different playing techniques such as the push technique, portamento technique, wah wah technique, and vibrato.
