INSTRUCTIONS MANUAL
IMPORTANT SAFETY MEASURES
When using electrical appliances, the following safety measures must always be followed.
Using the machine
Read all instructions.
- This appliance is intended for household use only. All other uses are inappropriate and therefore dangerous.
- Unplug the machine when not in use.
- Never touch hot surfaces. The water/coffee dispensed from the machine may cause burns.
- This machine is designed to brew espresso coffee: Be careful not to scald yourself with water jets or through improper use of the machine.
- The use of the appliance by children – if at least 8 years old – is allowed provided that they are supervised or instructed on how to use it correctly and that they understand the hazards involved. Cleaning and ordinary maintenance should not be carried out by children unless they are more than 8 years old and supervised by an adult. Keep the appliance and its power cord out of the reach of children younger than 8 years old.
- The use of this appliance by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or insufficient experience and/or skills is allowed, provided that they are supervised or instructed on how to use it correctly and that they understand the hazards involved.
- Children must not play with the appliance.
- Only use the machine in closed areas where it is protected from the weather.
- To protect against fire, electrical shocks or to avoid injuries, never allow cords, plugs and the machine body itself to become immersed in water or other fluids.
- Never use the appliance for any purpose other than that intended.
- Never rest the appliance on electrical or gas hobs, or place it in a hot oven.
- The appliance must be turned on only when being used. After use, it must be turned off by pressing the two coffee buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds and disconnecting the plug from the power outlet.
- Before unplugging the machine make sure that the coffee buttons are off.
- Using accessories not recommended by the manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock or personal injury.
- Do not drape the cord over the counter top or table top. Do not pull the plug out by the cord and never touch it with wet hands.
- Do not carry or pull the coffee machine by the cord.
- To reduce the risk of injury, do not drape the cord over the counter top or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
- Do not use the appliance if the cord or plug are damaged or if the machine shows signs of malfunctioning or has been damaged in any way. Take the machine to the nearest authorised service centre for checks or repairs.
- Do not use extension cords or power strips. In case of fire use carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguishers. Do not use water or powder extinguishers.
- Do not use the appliance for other than its intended use.
Installation of the appliance
- Read the instructions carefully.
- Do not install the machine in an area where the temperature may reach 5°C/32°F or lower (if water freezes, the appliance may be damaged) or higher than 40°C/104°F.
- Check that the electrical voltage used matches the requirements indicated on the appliance data plate. The appliance must only be connected to a properly earthed power socket.
- If the plug and socket are not compatible, have the plug replaced with a proper one by an authorised service centre.
- Place the machine on a counter top away from water taps and sinks.
- After removing the packaging, check that the appliance is in perfect condition before installation.
- Do not leave the packaging materials within the reach of children.
Cleaning the appliance
- Before unplugging the machine make sure that the coffee buttons are off.
- Unplug the machine when performing cleaning operations.
- Wait until the appliance is cool before cleaning.
- Remove the water tank (7) by pulling it down slightly and then outward.
- Clean the body and accessories with a damp cloth, then wipe with a non-abrasive dry cloth. Do not use detergents.
- Do not expose the machine to jets of water or immerse partially or completely in water.
If the appliance breaks down
Do not use the appliance if the power cord (6) or the plug are damaged, if the
appliance shows signs of malfunctioning or is damaged. Take the machine to the
nearest authorised service centre for checks or repairs. If the power cord (6)
is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorised service
centre. In case of damage or malfunction, turn off the appliance and do not
tamper with it. For repairs contact a service centre authorised by the
manufacturer and request the use of original spare parts only. Failure to
comply with these instructions may compromise the safe operation of the
appliance and will result in the forfeiture of warranty rights.

Incorrect use of the machine
- This appliance is intended for household use only. All other uses are inappropriate and therefore dangerous.
- The manufacturer shall not be held liable for any accidents caused by lack of earthing or earthing that is not compliant with applicable laws.
- The manufacturer is not liable for possible damage caused by improper, incorrect, or unreasonable use of the appliance.
This appliance is intended to be used in household and similar applications such as: staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other work environments farm stays guests in hotels, motels, and other residential type environments; bed and breakfast type environments.
GENERAL MACHINE OPERATING RULES
Read the instruction manual and the warranty limitations carefully.
The machine must be connected to a properly grounded power outlet. The machine
must be kept clean by frequently washing the cup holders, the drip tray, the
used capsule tray and the water tank. Maintenance must be carried out with the
machine off.
IMPORTANT: Never immerse the machine or its removable components in water or put it in the dishwasher.
The water in the tank must be replaced regularly. Do not use the machine without water in the tank. It is advisable to use a descaler specifically designed for espresso machines at least once every 2 months following the instructions found in the chapter on DESCALING. The machine is equipped with a valve allowing to maintain constant pressure, which may cause some water to drip from the brew group.

MACHINE INSTALLATION AND START-UP
When used for the first time, or if the machine has been turned off for a long period of time, wash the tank before filling it. Furthermore it is recommended to dispense at least 3 mugs of water to rinse the internal machine circuits, proceeding as follows.

Remove the tank, pushing it downwards.| Turn the tank outwards.| Fill the tank
with fresh water to the maximum level.| Reinsert the tank where the two slots
are and push it towards the machine until fully engaged.
Make sure that the tank is completely engaged.

Connect the machine to the power outlet.| Turn on the machine by pressing one
of the two
coffee buttons for 1-2 sec.| Make sure there are no capsules in the machine.|
The and buttons will start to flash.
When both coffee buttons are steadily lit, the
machine is ready to be used.| Place an empty mug below the dispenser.| Press
the or button and wait until the water stops dispensing. The machine is rinsed
when at least 3 mugs of water have been dispensed. The machine is now ready
for use.
Power Save function
If the machine remains on and is not used, the Power Save function is
activated after 7 minutes (mod. 642) and the and buttons turn off.
If the machine remains on and is not used, the Power Save function is
activated after 15 minutes (mod. 641) and the and buttons turn off.
MAKING AN ESPRESSO

Use the illy capsules shown in the figure.| Slowly lift (to the stop) the
lever that opens/closes the capsule compartment.| Insert the capsule as shown
in the figure.| Close the lever completely.

Lower the cup support grid. Fill the tank with fresh drinking water.| Place an
espresso cup below the dispenser.| Press and release the button. The machine
will stop dispensing automatically.| To eject the used capsule, slowly lift
the lever and the capsule will be automatically collected in the specific
container. If the capsule is not ejected, repeat the operation.
SUGGESTIONS
To enjoy a high quality espresso remember to:
- Use the capsule for espresso with the button. If the incorrect capsule/button combination is used, repeat the operation correctly.
- Change the water in the tank every day.
- Use water with a total hardness of less than 12 French degrees to reduce scaling in the machine.
- Use thick and preheated cups to prevent the coffee from cooling down too fast. The cups can be heated by rinsing them with hot water.
MAKING BREWED COFFEE

The machine is now programmed. The next time the or button is pressed, the machine will dispense the quantity of coffee that was just stored.
HOW TO COME RETURN THE MACHINE TO THE FACTORY SETTINGS:
With the lever open, turn on the machine by pressing one of the two coffee
buttons for 1-2 sec.
Press the button 5 times within 15 seconds.
The and buttons will flash quickly for 2 seconds and will then turn on fixed.
Now the machine has returned to the factory settings for both preparations,
both for the quantity as well as the temperature.
PROGRAMMING THE TEMPERATURE

With the lever open, turn on the machine by pressing one of the two coffee
buttons for 1-2 sec.
Do not insert a capsule.| Press the button 5 times within 15 seconds of
turning on the machine. Both buttons will flash. It is now possible to change
the temperature as described in points 3 and4.| Press the button to increase

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Switch off the machine by pressing the two coffee keys simultaneously for 2
seconds.| Remove the capsule holder. The capsule holder can contain a maximum
of 7 capsules. Therefore it should be emptied regularly
to prevent the capsules from getting stuck.| Empty the capsule holder and
rinse it.
Clean the tray and grid of residual water and coffee. Once clean, engage the
tray in the grid.| Rinse the components under running water and dry them. Do
not wash the components in the dishwasher.
SUGGESTIONS
- If the machine is not being used, turn it off and unplug it from the power outlet.
- Store the capsule coffee machine in a dry place, away from dust and out of the reach of children.
- It is recommended to put the machine in its original packaging.
- The storage temperature must not be lower than 5°C, to avoid the internal machine parts from being damaged due to the water freezing.
- To ensure correct hygiene and maintain high product quality, it is advisable to expel the capsule immediately after the coffee is dispensed.
DESCALING
If the dispensing buttons and flash alternately, the machine must be descaled.
Read all instructions carefully before performing the descaling in order to
familiarise yourself with the process. The cycle lasts about 8 minutes.
N.B.: If the operations are not carried out according to the indicated time,
the machine will not start the descaling process. In this case, turn off the
machine and repeat the steps from the beginning.
Limescale accumulation is a normal result of machine use. The machine has an
automatic programme that helps optimise cleaning and removes scale deposits
from the interior. If the descaling procedure is not carried out, scale may
cause malfunctions that are not covered by the warranty. Use only descaling
products for coffee machines. Do not use vinegar, lye, salt or formic acid as
they damage the machine. Follow the procedure described below and not the
instructions on thepackage of the descaling solution.

WARRANTY LIMITATIONS
CAUTION:
If descaling is not carried out regularly, limescale may cause malfunctions
that are not covered by the warranty. Do not use vinegar, lye, salt or formic
acid as they may damage the machine. Use only descaling products suitable for
coffee machines. The descaling solution must be disposed of according to
applicable regulations. Do not drink the liquid dispensed during the descaling
process; the machine may not be used for brewing coffee until after the
descaling process has terminated.
The warranty does not cover failures caused by:
- A lack of periodical descaling.
- Operation at a voltage other than what is specified on the data plate.
- Misuse or failure to follow instructions.
- Changes made internally.
- The warranty does not cover repair costs for machines that have been tampered with by unauthorized service centres. Such costs will be entirely payable by the customer.
- Do not to wash the drip tray and the used capsule tray in the dishwasher machine. Failure to follow these instructions may cause problems to both components that are not covered by the warranty.
CAUTION:
Saving the original packaging (at least over the warranty period) is advisable
in the event that the machine needs to be sent to an authorised service
centre. Any damage caused due to transport without proper packaging is not
covered by the warranty.
DISPOSAL OF THE PRODUCT IN ACCORDANCE WITH EC DIRECTIVE
Disposal of used electric and electronic appliances, by private persons in the
European Union.
The WEEE symbol used on this product means that it must not be disposed of
together with other domestic waste but must be collected separately. Consumers
have the option of handing in used appliances to distributors, free-of-charge
on a 1:1 basis, when they purchase a new product.
For further information about the collection of appliances to be scrapped,
please contact the local authority in your town of residence, the local waste
disposal service or the retailer where the product was purchased. Consumers
are responsible for disposing of appliances in accordance with applicable law,
and non-compliance may be subject to penalties.
The correct disposal of this product will contribute to protecting the
environment, natural resources, and human health.
