  1. Ensure that you have at least one existing key that already works with your vehicle.
  2. Make sure the vehicle battery is in good condition and fully charged.
  3. Turn off headlights, radio, A/C fan, etc. to minimize battery draw during the pairing process.

  • Before pairing, familiarize yourself with the Simple Key’s compatibility with the make, model, and year of your vehicle.

LET’S GET STARTED

Simple Key requires two steps: “ACTIVATION” and “PAIRING.” It is important to follow these steps in order to successfully complete setup. If you skip a step, the key WILL NOT work properly, and you’ll have to repeat the setup process. Find your ACTIVATION CODE in the following chart by referencing your vehicle’s make, model, year and the button configuration of your key’s remote.

Note: If you have a push-to-start vehicle, this key will not pair correctly. This product is for vehicles you need to turn the key to start.

OPTIONAL STEP

OPTIONAL STEP: REPLACE BUTTON PAD

Additional button pads are included with Simple Key. Select the button pad that matches your existing key, and follow the steps below to insert it into the new key.

  1. Slide the mechanical latch on the front of the key fob sideways and remove the emergency key by pulling down on the bottom of the fob.
  2. Place the key fob on a flatsurface with the buttons facing down. Insert the tip of the emergency key or a flat head screwdriver into the area where the emergency key was located and twist to pop open the shell.
  3. Remove all components and lay them flat on the surface in front of you.
  4. Remove the originally installed button pad and replace it with the additional button pad that matches your existing key’s button configuration.
  5. Reassemble all components of the key fob.
    • NOTE: Place the circuit board back in the shell so that the battery makes contact with the designated area on the circuit board.
  6. Snap the key fob back together ensuring all sides are sealed tightly all the way around.
  7. Move on to STEP 1 (of 2) to ACTIVATE the key.

KEY ACTIVATION

STEP 1 (OF 2) KEY ACTIVATION

Follow the steps below to ACTIVATE your new key. Once you have activated your key, follow STEP 2 (of 2) KEY PAIRING to pair the key to your vehicle.

  1. First, simultaneously press the LOCK and PANIC buttons on the remote. The light under the PANIC button will illuminate and stay on.
  2. Using your ACTIVATION CODE found in the chart on page 3, enter the first digit using the LOCK button, the second digit using the PANIC button, and the third digit using the UNLOCK button. For example, KEY CODE 314 is entered by pressing the LOCK button three (3) times, the PANIC button one (1) time, and then the UNLOCK button four (4) times.
  3. Now, simultaneously press the LOCK and PANIC buttons on the remote.
    • The light will now blink back the ACTIVATION CODE you originally entered. If this does not match, go back to Step 1 to start over. For example, the indicator light for KEY CODE 314 will blink (3) times, pause, blink one (1) time, pause, and finally blink four (4) times.
    • If the light blinks rapidly this indicates an error. Go back to ACTIVATION step 1 and retry the steps using your ACTIVATION CODE.
    • NOTE: You may re-enter activation codes anytime before the key is paired to your vehicle. After the key is paired to your vehicle, do not attempt to re-enter or change the button code. This will cause the key to not work.
  4. Move on to STEP 2 (of 2) below to PAIR the key to your vehicle.

STEP 2 (OF 2) KEY PAIRING

Instructions have timing requirements. If you wait too long between steps, your vehicle’s computer may time out, requiring you to start over. Once you begin the pairing procedure, move at a quick and even pace.

NOTE: If the EZ Installer is left in the vehicle’s on-board diagnostic (OBD) port for more than 5 minutes, an alarm will sound reminding you to remove it.

NOTE: If at any point the EZ Installer continues to beep rapidly, please refer to the FAQ section for more information.

  1. Find your vehicle’s make, model, and year in the Compatibility Lookup. Turn the dial on the EZ Installer to the position listed for your vehicle’s make, model, and year.
  2. NOTE: If more than one dial position exists for your vehicle, try the PRIMARY dial position first. If you are unable to successfully pair the key, try the ALTERNATE dial position listed for your vehicle.
  3. NOTE: All existing, working keys and the new key should be present during the pairing process.
  4. Enter the vehicle and ensure all doors are closed.
  5. Begin with the vehicle in PARK and the engine OFF.
  6. Turn hazard lights ON.
  7. Insert the original key into the ignition and start the vehicle.
  8. Remove the security label from the EZ Installer and insert it firmly into the on-board diagnostic (OBD) port located under the dash.
    • The location of your vehicle’s OBD port can be found in your owner’s manual.
  9. Wait up to 8 seconds and listen for 3 quick beeps from the EZ Installer.
    • NOTE: If you hear a series of more than 3 rapid beeps, an error has occurred. Please see FAQs to learn more.
  10. Turn the ignition off and remove the key.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: The EZ Installer beeps 8 times after pushing the button to initiate the pairing process and will not pair the new key?

A: Your vehicle allows a maximum of 8 paired keys. If the vehicle already has 8 keys paired to it, a new key cannot be paired. If the EZ Installer beeps 8 times early in the pairing process, this indicates that the maximum number of keys have been paired. Please contact Car Keys Express customer service at 888-598-8910.

Q: Can I use the same EZ Installer on other vehicles?

A: No, the EZ Installer will be locked to the first vehicle it is used on. You may add more keys to the same vehicle again as needed, but it will not work on different vehicles. If the EZ Installer sounds 2 beeps at 1 second intervals, then beeps rapidly, this signifies that the device has already been used on another vehicle. Visit CKESimpleKey.com or your local retailer to purchase additional keys.

Q: The EZ Installer sounds 2 or 3 beeps at 1 second intervals 3 times then beeps continuously?

A: When problems occur during the pairing process, EZ Installer will beep an error code, followed by continuous faster beeps. The number of error beeps correspond to specific error codes, explained below.

  • Two distinct beeps at 1 second intervals indicate the device has already been used on another vehicle. The EZ Installer can only pair Simple Keys to one vehicle. The EZ Installer will be locked to the first vehicle it is used on. You may add more keys to the same vehicle again as needed, but it will not work on different vehicles.
  • Three distinct beeps at 1 second intervals indicate the EZ Installer could not detect an original, existing key. Ensure an existing, working key is present, remove the EZ Installer, and begin the pairing process again.

Please contact Car Keys Express customer service at 888-598-8910 for any questions.

Q: The new key won’t pair to my car?

A: If the EZ Installer doesn’t pair the key to your car, most likely an incorrect dial position was used. In this case, the EZ Installer will beep continuously after you press the pairing button. Check the compatibility section to confirm the correct dial position for your make, model, year, and button configuration of your original key. If an alternate dial position(s) is listed for your vehicle, unplug the EZ Installer, turn the knob to the alternate position, and try pairing again. If the key still won’t pair, please contact customer service at 888-598-8910.

Q: The EZ Installer was unplugged during the pairing process?

A: The EZ Installer must remain plugged into the on-board diagnostic (OBD) port until pairing is complete. If the EZ Installer becomes unplugged during the pairing process, turn the ignition to the OFF position, remove the key, and begin the pairing process again.

Q: The vehicle won’t start with the new key or old keys after attempting to pair?

A: Please call Car Keys Express customer service at 888-598-8910.
