Instructions for use

Step 2: Controls

JT-4000 MICRO Hook-up

  • Two VCOs based on 1990s JP8K
  • Two operator FM option
  • 12 dB/octave VCF with comprehensive modulation options
  • Separate ADSR envelope generators for VCA and VCF
  • Two LFOs
  • Extensive parameter control via MIDI CCs
  • 32 editable preset sounds, all of which can be archived using Sys Ex
  1. USB SOCKET – use this USB-C socket to power the JT-4000 MICRO from a suitable power source (laptop, USB charger), to access MIDI over USB functions and to update the firmware.

  2. POWER SWITCH – use this switch to turn the JT-4000 MICRO on or off.

  3. VOLUME – use this control to set the output volume to the headphone socket (4).

  4. HEADPHONE SOCKET – use this 3.5 mm TRS jack socket to connect a suitable pair of stereo headphones. Not suitable for balanced audio connections.

  5. SELECT – use this control to scroll through the menu options for the various sections of the JT-4000 MICRO (selected with buttons 9 – 14), and to scroll through the stored presets. Pressing the control acts as ENTER. When the * is displayed then pressing SELECT will save the edited preset.

  6. DISPLAY – the display shows the current preset and an oscilloscope trace of its waveform, unless one of the buttons 9 – 14 is in use, where it will show the available options and settings. When a preset has been edited the symbol will show next to the name until the edits have been saved. Pressing Enter will save the edited preset and the will stop showing.

  7. CUTOFF – use this control to change the cutoff frequency of the 12 dB/octave analog VCF. Also used to adjust A parameters in conjunction with buttons 9-14. Please note that parameters do not adjust until the control has rotated to approximately 9 o’clock, to prevent accidental changes.

  8. RESO – use this control to adjust the resonance of the VCF. Also used to adjust B parameters in conjunction with buttons 9-14. Please note that parameters do not adjust until the control has rotated to approximately 9 o’clock, to prevent accidental changes. Menu Selection Buttons
    – Each option has A and B parameters, unless —— appears against B.

  9. OSC-X – pressing this button accesses the Oscillator menu.
    • OSC1 A: Wave (Off, triangle, square, PWM, saw, super saw,
    FM, noise) OSC1 B: DETU (Detune when super saw wave is selected) / FDBK (Feedback when FM is selected)
    • OSC1 A: PWM (Pulse Width adjustment when PWM wave is selectedOSC1 B: ——-
    • OSC1 A: Coarse (Coarse tuning for OSC1) OSC1 B: Fine (Fine tuning for OSC1)
    • OSC2 A: Wave (Off, triangle, square, PWM, saw, noise OSC2 B: ——-
    • OSC2 A: PWM (Pulse Width adjustment when PWM wave is selected) OSC2 B: ——-
    • OSC2 A: Coarse (Coarse tuning for OSC2) OSC2 B: Fine (Fine tuning for OSC2)
    • PORTA A: Amount PORTA B: Mode (Portamento or Glissando)
    • RING A: Amount (amount of ring modulation between the two oscillators) RING B: Switch (switches ring modulation on or off)
    • PROG NAME EDIT (rotate the encoder (5) to scroll through characters, use ENTER to select and move to the next)

  10. LFO-X – pressing this button accesses the LFO menu.
    • LFO1 A: Wave (triangle, square, sawtooth) LFO1 B: Destination (VCF, OSC, PWM (if PWM wave is selected), Detune (If super saw is selected)).
    • LFO1 A: Speed LFO1 B: Amount

    • ARP A: Motif (Up, Down, Up & Down) ARP B: BPM (adjusts the speed of the arpeggiator between 20 bpm and 240 bpm)
    • ARP A: Scale (adjusts the scale of the arpeggiator (1/8, 1/8T, 1/16, 1/16T, 1/32) ARP B: Swing (adjusts the swing amount of the arpeggiator between 50% and 75%)
    • ARP A: Source (selects the clock source (Internal, USB). If USB is selected a Start/ Stop command must be sent via USB to start and stop the arpeggiator.

  2. SETTINGS – pressing this button accesses the settings menu.
    • OCT A: Set (sets the octave of the internal keyboard) OCT B: —— (there is no option B)
    • MOD A: Set (select between keyboard or arpeggiator)  D B: —— (there is no option B)
    • VCF A: Trigger (switches filter envelope re-trigger on or off) VCF B: ——- (there is no option B)
    • MID A: TXCH (selects the MIDI transmit channel, can be set to OFF for external control) MID B: RXCH (selects the MIDI receive channel)
    • MID A: Velocity (switches MIDI velocity on or off) MID B: —— (there is no option B)
    • PROG BULK SYX SEND (activates Sys Ex dump of all programs)
    • PROG SING SYX SEND (activates Sys Ex dump of current program only)
    • SYSEX RECEIVE (activates Sys Ex receive)
    • FACTORY RESET (sets all parameters back to factory defaults and displays current firmware version) Press the Enter button (5) to initiate reset.
    To save an edited program exit menu and return to main screen by pressing the current menu button (9-14), then press ENTER to save the renamed program. The ‘*’ will be removed, to show that the edits have been saved.
