Notes on the documentation

1.1 Using the documentation
Before commissioning, connecting and using Bosch products, it is essential to go through the operating in‐ structions – and the safety instructions, in particular with great care. By doing so, you can eliminate any uncertainties in handling Bosch products and associated safety risks upfront, which is in the interest of your own safety and will help avoid damage to the products. Should a Bosch product be passed on to another per‐ son, the operating instructions with information on its intended use must be handed over as well.

1.3 Warnings in the documentation
1.3.1 Meaning of the signal words
Warnings warn of dangers to the user or people in the vicinity. The signal word in the warning indicates the likelihood of occurrence and the severity of the danger if it is disregarded.

Safety

2.1 Safety Instructions
The measuring bar as a safety hazard
Magnetic field – Magnets on the slides of the measuring bar may impair the health of people with a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator.

  • People with a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator must maintain a sufficient distance from the SCT 418, especially from the slides.

Risk of head impact – The protruding measuring bar at head height may lead to injury to the head and face.

  • Mind the protruding measuring bar when working with SCT 418.
  • When SCT 418 is not in use, move the measuring bar into parking position.

Power supply cables as safety hazards
Tripping hazard – Power supply cables at knee height may lead to tripping, resulting in falls and injury.

  • Use the laptop/tablet on the SCT 418 in storage battery mode.
  • Lay the power supply cable so that there is no risk of tripping.

Calibration boards as safety hazards
Falling objects – Incorrectly attached or unsecured calibration boards may fall off the SCT 418, resulting in minor injury.

  • Use retaining cables to secure calibration boards with magnetic attachment.
  • When SCT 418 is not in use, remove the calibration boards and keep them in a safe place, e.g. in the “Multi-Target-Shop” box.
  • Fasten large calibration boards without magnetic fastening via the holder for large calibration boards.

2.2 Target group
The product may only be used by trained and instructed personnel. Apprentices or personnel undergoing training or instruction may use the product only under the continual supervision of an experienced person.
Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the product.

2.4 Intended use
The SCT 418 is a calibration device for calibrating advanced driver assistance systems.
With SCT 418, calibration boards for the calibration of front camera sensorscan be aligned in a vehicle-specific manner.
SCT 418 is positioned by using the “Bosch ADAS Positioning” software.
Diagnostic software such as “ESI[tronic] 2.0” is needed for calibrating advanced driver assistance systems.
2.5 Foreseeable misuse
SCT 418 is pulled or pushed by the measuring bar to change the position.
Only move SCT 418 using the alignment frame to change the position.
The measuring bar or calibration device can be damaged if the SCT 418 is pulled or pushed by the measuring bar.
SCT 418 is used as a means of transport.
SCT 418 may only be used for alignment of calibration boards.
The measuring bar of SCT 418 is used for leaning or sitting.
Only load the measuring bar with calibration boards (max. 10 Kg).

2.6 Prerequisites
Resting surface of the vehicle

  • Leveled
  • Maximum inclination: 0.1°
  • Maximum unevenness: 10 mm
  • No direct light exposure
  • Adequate lighting

Software “Bosch ADAS Positioning”
We recommend and support the DCU 220 as a laptop or the ADS 625X tablet for use with the “Bosch ADAS Positioning” software.

  • Operating system: Windows 10
  • Display resolution: 1024 x 600 pixels or higher
  • USB ports: recommended 1 x USB 3.0, min. 1 x USB 2.0

Diagnostic software
“ESI[tronic] 2.0” software with information type SD  (control unit diagnosis) to be able to calibrate advanced driver assistance systems.
2.7 Warranty and liability
No modifications may be carried out on our products. Our products may only be used with genuine accessories and genuine spare parts. Otherwise, all warranty claims will be rendered null and void.

3.3 Warnings and mandatory-action signs
on the product
All warning signs must be in legible condition.
Read and understand the operating instructions before working with the SCT 418.
Individuals with a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator must maintain sufficient distance from the SCT 418.
Beware of the indicator bar at head height to avoid injury.

3.4 Functional description
Alignment of SCT 418
The “Bosch ADAS Positioning” software will guide the user through the alignment process for the SCT 418 step by step. The work steps depend on the selected sensor, vehicle and accessories.
Front camera calibration
For front camera calibration using the SCT 418, the  CTA 2xx-x and CTA 3xx-x calibration boards are required. The calibration boards must be attached to the SCT 418 at the required height and positioned at the required distance from the front of the vehicle. Use the magnetic slide to attach the calibration boards to the SCT 418.
3.5 Measuring barBOSCH SCT 418 Calibration and Adjustment Device -
Measuring bar The calibration boards are attached to the measuring bar during the calibration process. The two cameras (A) for detecting the reference boards on the vehicle are located at the outer edges of the measuring bar.
3 different positions (B) of the cameras allow detecting the calibration boards in different vehicle positions.
The pitch angle (D) and the roll angle (C) can be read via the spirit levels attached to the measuring bar.
Retaining brackets (E) for mounting the retaining adapters X are used to attach large calibration boards without a retaining plate.
The measuring bar can be moved to a vertical parking position for space-saving storage. See 10 “Moving the indicator bar to parking position”
3.6 Contact plateBOSCH SCT 418 Calibration and Adjustment Device -
Contact plate The contact plate is required for calibrations that have the reference point on the front bumper. The rubber pads ensure that there is no damage to the vehicle if it comes into contact with the front bumper.
3.7 Alignment unitBOSCH SCT 418 Calibration and Adjustment Device -
Alignment unit The alignment unit, together with the spirit levels  mounted on the measuring bar, enables precise alignment to the vehicle. 4 values can be set on the alignment unit:

  • Lateral offset (A) 1)
  • Yaw angle (B) 1)
  • Roll angle (C)
  • Pitch angle (D)

    3.8 Mount for large calibration boards (optional)
    Large calibration boards can be secured at the top with  the aid of the mount for large calibration boards. As aresult, large calibration boards remain fixed and do not tilt forward, thus preventing a change of the pitch an‐ gle.

    Retaining brackets are mounted on the indicator bar, into which retaining adapters X can be hooked. The large calibration board is placed on the 2 retaining adapters X and secured at the top by means of the cali‐ bration board retainer T on the mount for large calibration boards.BOSCH SCT 418

Initial commissioning

4.1 Installing SCT 418

4.2 Installing the “Bosch ADAS Positioning” software
Depending on the product version ordered, the “Bosch ADAS Positioning” software can be installed via a USB stick or via the “DDM” software (Diagnostics Download Manager).
4.2.1 Installing “Bosch ADAS Positioning” via USB stick
Also, the current software version as well as all previous software versions can be downloaded from the Bosch Media Library: www.downloads.bosch- automotive.com.

  1. Connect the USB stick to the laptop/tablet.

  2. Run ” Bosch ADAS PositioningSetup.exe” from the USB stick.

  3. Select the language for the installation wizard.
    The installation wizard will start.

  4. Read and follow the installation instructions.
    Once the installation is complete, “Bosch ADAS Positioning” can be used.

4.2.2 Installing “Bosch ADAS Positioning” via DDM
The “Bosch ADAS Positioning” software is provided via the “DDM” software (Diagnostics Download Manager).
The customer number and password are included on the delivery slip of the Bosch diagnostic program.

  1. If you have not yet installed DDM, download and install DDM: www.downloads.boschautomotive.com/en/ddm/esi20-eu
  2. Use the customer number and password to log into DDM.
  3. Perform the one-time configuration of DDM.
  4. Select “Bosch ADAS Positioning” for installation.
      “Bosch ADAS Positioning” is installed on the laptop/tablet.
      Updates for “Bosch ADAS Positioning” are automatically installed via DDM.

4.3 Initializing cameras using QR codes

The “Bosch ADAS Positioning” software guides you step by step through the camera initializa‐ tion.

  1. Launch “Bosch ADAS Positioning”.

  2. Plug the USB connecting cable into the laptop/tablet.
      The camera will be initialized.
      The camera image will be displayed.

  3. Read and follow the instructions on the screen.
    The two QR codes are specific to the respective camera. If the camera is not recognized during camera initialization, use the other QR code.
      Both cameras are ready for operation.
      The serial numbers of the cameras are saved in the settings.

Operation

5.1 Mounting the wheel holder with reference board
Before positioning the SCT 418, make sure that there are no objects in the calibration area that can be damaged by the indicator bar.

  1. With its prongs (1), place 4x wheel holders on the tire tread.BOSCH SCT 418 Calibration and Adjustment Device - Mounting the wheel holder Rear wheels: Use reference boards CTA 403-x.
    Front wheels: Use reference board CTA 400-x.
    Calibration procedures that use the front bumper as a reference point do not require wheel holders to be attached to the front wheels.

  2. Make sure the spacers (2) touch the sidewall of the tire.
    The spacer must touch the sidewall of the tire. If the spacer touches the rim, the reference board is not positioned accurately. It is not be possible to align the SCT 418 accurately.![BOSCH SCT 418 Calibration and Adjustment Device

    1. In case of a protruding rim: Turn the spacer until the recess (3) in the spacer faces the rim.
    2. Level the wheel holder accurately using the spirit level (4).
      If the wheel holder is not accurately leveled, the SCT 418 cannot be aligned accurately and the ve‐ hicle camera cannot be calibrated accurately.

5.2 Coarse alignment of the SCT 418
In addition to the alignment of the calibration device, vehicle-specific properties also affect the calibration. This is why additional instructions from the respective vehicle manufacturer must be observed before coarse alignment!

  1. Loosen the clamping screws (E).

  2. Set the lateral offset () and yaw angle (B) to “0” on the alignment unit.BOSCH SCT 418 Calibration and Adjustment Device - Coarse alignment of the SCT 418

  3. Tighten the clamping screws (E).

  4. Set the height stop to the required value (e.g. 1400 mm) and tighten with the star knob screw.BOSCH SCT 418 Calibration and Adjustment Device - clamping screwsFor further information, see e.g. one-pager  (brief instructions) with manufacturer-specificposition details.

  5. Lower the indicator bar to the height stop.

  6. Tighten the indicator bar with the star bolt screw.
    The indicator bar can be damaged if the SCT 418 is pulled or pushed by the indicator bar.

  7. Position the SCT 418 in front of the vehicle using the alignment frame and set the camera position (1, 2, 3) such that the calibration boards are recognized by the “Bosch ADAS Positioning” software.

  8. Align the SCT 418 in front of the vehicle and make sure that:
    – Yaw angle is less than 1°
    – Distance is in line with manufacturer’s specification ±10 mm
    – Lateral offset is max. 24 mm from zero point

  9. Turn the brakes of the base plate downwards until the rollers have approx. 2 mm more clearance to the ground.BOSCH SCT 418 Calibration and Adjustment Device - base plate downwards

  1. Adjust the pitch angle (D) using the spirit level (D).

  2. Adjust the roll angle (C) using the spirit level (C).

  3. Check the distance to the vehicle and correct if necessary.

  4. Adjust the yaw angle via the yaw angle screw (B).
    The lateral offset must be less than 30 mm after pre-setting the yaw angle, as the alignment unit can compensate for a maximum lateral offset of 40 mm.

  5. If the lateral offset greater than 30 mm: Reposition the SCT 418 and repeat the fine alignment.

  6. Adjust the lateral offset (A) to “0”.

5.4 Attaching calibration boards
For required calibration boards and further information, see e.g. brief instructions (one-pager) with manufacturer-specific position details.
5.4.1 Attaching “calibration boards with retaining plate and L bracket or T bracket”

  1. If retaining adapters X are mounted, remove retaining adapter X and move it into park position.BOSCH SCT 418 Calibration and Adjustment Device - calibration boards

  2. Position the slides of the measuring bar.
    For calibration boards with retaining plate, set the slide to the center position. For calibration boards with 2 retaining plates, position the left and right slide to the value specified in the one pager.

  3. Hook the calibration board into the retaining bolt of the mount for large calibration boards.
    When hooking in the calibration board, make sure that the mount for large calibration boards is not twisted.
    The calibration board engages on the slides and is secured by the magnetic contact surfaces.

  4. Check that both sides are properly engaged.
    The calibration board is now secured and fixed in place.

5.4.2 Attaching “calibration boards with retaining plate”BOSCH SCT 418
Calibration and Adjustment Device - retaining If only one calibration board is needed for front camera calibration, the calibration board must be attached to the center slide. If the calibration board is attached to the right slide, the pattern on the calibration board will be rotated by 180° and front camera calibration will fail. The right slide is used only if 2 calibration boards are needed.

  1. If retaining adapters X are mounted, remove retaining adapter X and move it into park position.

  2. Position the calibration board in front of the magnetic holder on the left slide, observing the position of the mounting pins on the calibration board and on the slide.
      The calibration board will be pulled against the left slide by magnetic force.
    The mounting pin on the calibration board and the mounting pin on the left slide will engage cor‐ rectly.

  3. Attach the retaining cable to a lock ring on the back of the calibration board.
      The calibration board is now secured and fixed in place.

  4. Check the position of the calibration boards.

5.4.3 Attaching “calibration boards without retaining plate”

  1. Push the left and right slides all the way out.

  3. Secure the left and right retaining adapter X handtight with knurled screws.

  5. Place the calibration board in the retaining adapters X so that the two arrows on the calibration board are aligned exactly with the retaining adapters X.
  6. Push calibration board retainer T onto the top edge  of the calibration board in such a way that the recess in calibration board retainer secures the calibration board.
  7. Use the knurled screw to hand-tighten calibration board retainer T.
    The calibration board is now secured and fixed in place.
    When not using the retaining adapters X, we recommend turning the retaining adapters X 180° to the rear and securing them hand-tight in this park position with knurled screws.

5.5 Calibrating with the SCT 418

  1. Start the diagnostic software.
  2. Perform calibration.
  3. Follow the instructions in the software.

5.6 Following calibration

  1. Remove the calibration boards.

  2. Release the locking device of the indicator bar and lower the indicator bar so that no head injuries can occur.
    The indicator bar can be damaged if the SCT 418 is pulled or pushed by the indicator bar.

  3. If the SCT 418 is not used for an extended period, 10 “Moving the indicator bar to parking position”.

  4. Use the alignment frame to move the SCT 418 to the desired storage location.

5.7 Moving the indicator bar to parking position

  1. Disconnect the USB connecting cable.

  3. Remove the clamping screws (E).
    When repositioning the indicator bar, make sure that no bystanders are injured or nearby objects damaged.
    The indicator bar or the measuring technology installed in it can be damaged if the indicator is set down roughly or dropped.

  5. Insert mount (A) on the indicator bar in mount (B) on the alignment frame

  6. Align the indicator bar so that the rubber buffer is located in the provided recess in the base plate.

  7. Tighten the indicator bar with the star bolt screw.

Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning
Coarse workshop rags and abrasive cleaning agents may damage the product.

  • Use only neutral cleaning agents and soft cloths to clean the product.
  • Clean the lenses of the cameras with soft and dry cloths.

6.2 Spare parts

Decommissioning

7.1 Changing location

  • If the SCT 418 is passed on, all the documentation included in the scope of delivery must be handed over together with the unit.
  • The SCT 418 is only ever to be transported in the original or equivalent packaging.
  • Heed the notes on initial commissioning.

7.2 Temporary shutdown
Disconnect the power supply from the laptop/tablet and remove the laptop/tablet from the shelf.

7.3 Disposal

  • Dismantle the SCT 418 and sort out and dispose of the different materials in accordance with the applicable regulations.
