ITALERI ita1411 A-7E Corsair ll

The LTV A-7 Corsair II was introduced in the early 1960’s to fulfill the United States Navy requirement for a new carrier-capable light attack aircraft, able to replace both the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk and the piston-powered Douglas A-1 Skyraider. Its design was heavily influenced by the earlier Vought F-8 Crusader fighter airframe. The A-7 was also characterized by its large frontal air intake located under the cabin, by the 35° foldable swept wing which optimized space on the aircraft carriers’ flight decks and by the adoption of a modern Head-up display to enhance its combat capability. Thanks to its underwing hardpoints the A-7 was able to carry an impressive offensive payload, utilizing both conventional and guided weapons. These included the laser guided Paveway system and various air-to-surface missiles. The A-7E was the final version produced for the U.S Navy, being more effective than earlier versions and also with the capability to deploy Harpoon anti-ship missiles and AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles.
