847-359-BREW Stout 5 Gallon Extract Brew Kit

Product Information:

The product is a Foreign Stout 5 Gallon Extract Kit. It is
available at WhatsBrewingSupply.com. The kit includes all the
necessary ingredients and instructions to brew a 5-gallon batch of
Foreign Stout.

Product Usage Instructions:

  1. Cleaning and Sanitizing: Both a cleaner and a sanitizer
should be used. Cleaners remove organics that are food for unwanted
contaminants. PBW is an example of a cleaner. Use 1 tablespoon in
2-3 gallons of warm to hot water. Let it soak, scrub the surface
with a brush, and rinse with water three times. Sanitizers remove
unwanted contaminants such as bacteria. Use a sanitizer like Star
San, diluting 1 oz in 2.5 gallons. Place it in a spray bottle or
dip equipment just prior to use.

  2. The Recipe: Heat the water to 160 degrees F and turn off
the heat. If using city water, remove chlorine by using a carbon
filter or letting it sit out overnight. Do not use well or RO
water. Boil as much water as your pot allows (up to 5 gallons).
    Boil for 60 minutes.

  3. The Process:

  4. Steep the grains for 20-30 minutes.

  5. Remove the grain bag and discard.

  6. Heat the wort to just below a boil.

  7. Turn off your heat source and add the extract using the
whirlpool technique to dissolve it without burning on the bottom of
    the kettle.

  8. Bring the mixture to a boil and start the timer countdown for
    60 minutes.

  9. Add the hops as specified in the recipe. Optional: at 15
minutes, add yeast nutrient and Whirlfloc or Irish moss.

  10. Stop heating at 0 on the timer. From this point on, everything
that touches the beer should be sanitized.

  11. Remove from heat and chill the wort using an ice bath if no
    chiller is available.

  12. When the temperature of the wort is less than 73 degrees F,
transfer it to a fermenter, splashing the wort to oxygenate. Top
off to 5.5 gallons with water if needed.

  13. Oxygenation is needed to help the yeast get started. Pour the
beer back and forth between two sanitized buckets or shake the
carboy for 2 hours for the airlock to start bubbling.

  14. Ferment until the krausen that has formed on top has
    dissipated, usually around 2 weeks.

  15. Rack the beer into a 5-gallon carboy for secondary
fermentation, which will clarify the beer and allow flavors to
    mature.

  16. Wait for 2 weeks. Record the ending gravity.

  17. Bottle the beer by dissolving priming sugar in 1 cup of
preboiled hot water and placing it into a sanitized bottling
bucket. Use tubing to rack the beer on top and fill each bottle 1
inch below the top. Cap the bottles and store them at room
    temperature while carbonating.

  18. Wait for another 2 weeks. Chill your first beer and test for
carbonation. It could take up to 3 weeks to fully carbonate.

Cheers!
