DISPOSAL
ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES – INFORMATION FOR PRIVATE HOUSEHOLDS
The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) contains a large number
of requirements for handling electrical and electronic equipment. The most
important requirements are summarized here.
Separate collection of old devices
Electrical and electronic equipment that has become waste is referred to as
waste equipment. Owners of old devices must collect them separately from
unsorted municipal waste. In particular, old devices do not belong in
household waste, but in special collection and return systems..
Batteries and accumulators as well as lamps
Owners of old devices must usually separate old batteries and accumulators
that are not enclosed by the old device, as well as lamps that can be removed
from the old device without destroying them, before handing them in at a
collection point. This does not apply if old devices are prepared for reuse
with the participation of a public waste disposal authority.
Possibilities of returning old devices
Owners of old devices from private households can hand them in free of charge
to the collection points of the public waste disposal authorities or to the
take-back points set up by manufacturers or distributors within the meaning of
the ElektroG.
Shops with a sales area of at least 400 m² for electrical and electronic
equipment and those grocery stores with a total sales area of at least 800 m²
that offer electrical and electronic equipment several times a year or
permanently and make it available on the market are subject to the obligation
to take back. This also applies to sales using long-distance means of
communication if the storage and shipping areas for electrical and electronic
equipment are at least 400 m² or the total storage and shipping areas are at
least 800 m². In principle, distributors must ensure that they are taken back
by providing suitable return options at a reasonable distance from the
respective end user.
The possibility of returning an old device free of charge exists in the case
of distributors who are obliged to take it back, among other things, if a new
device of the same type that essentially fulfills the same functions is handed
over to an end user. If a new device is delivered to a private household, the
old device of the same type can also be handed over there for collection free
of charge; This applies to sales using means of distance communication for
devices in categories 1, 2 or 4 in accordance with Section 2 (1) ElektroG,
namely “heat exchangers”, “display screen devices” or “large devices” (the
latter with at least one external dimension of more than 50 centimeters). End
users are asked about a corresponding return intention when concluding a
purchase contract. There is also the option of returning old devices that are
no larger than 25 centimeters in any external dimension to the distributors’
collection points free of charge, regardless of the purchase of a new device,
limited to three old devices per type of device.
Privacy Notice
Old devices often contain sensitive personal data. This applies in particular
to information and telecommunications technology devices such as computers and
smartphones. In your own interest, please note that each end user is
responsible for deleting the data on the old devices to be disposed of.
Meaning of the “crossed-out” wheeled bin symbol
The symbol of a crossed-out garbage can, which is regularly shown on
electrical and electronic devices, indicates that the device in question must
be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste at the end of its
service life.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
If possible, entrust the installation of the power capacitor to a trained car
audio installer.
However, if you want to carry out the installation yourself, be sure to
observe the following instructions. Otherwise there is a risk of injury or
serious damage to the device or parts of the vehicle’s electrical system.
- The power capacitor stores an extremely large amount of electricity and may explode or cause serious injury. If the device is used for other purpos-es than originally intended or if not proper used or installed, personal injury or material damage could occur.
- It is therefore essential to avoid a short circuit at the power connection terminals. Dangerously high currents can flow and enormous damage can occur. Danger of explosion!
- The capacitor should be mounted at a mechanically stable position in the vehicle. The device should be fixed properly and professional.
- At no time the power capacitor should be exposed to voltages higher than specified (max. 18 V) or its terminals shorted directly.
- Protect the power capacitor against humidity and heat in a temperature range from -20 °C to +60 °C.
- For cleaning use a dry and soft cleaning tissue, by no means any chemicals or water.
- The capacitor is approved for use in vehicles within the European Union and has a CE mark.
INTENDED USE
This device is only suitable for the operation in a vehicle with an on-board voltage of 12 volts, negative ground.
HOW IT WORKS
The power capacitor is used in vehicles for stabilizing the 12 Volt supply and support for car audio amplifiers, if fast and temporary high currents are re- quired. The power capacitor can compensate short-term power peaks on the on- board electrical system for low and powerful bass operations. The use of the power capacitors results in a considerably improved power expansion of the amplifier. Car audio amplifiers require very high current peaks for a proper op-eration. Conventional car battery are not designed to deliver additional power supply to car audio amplifiers. Another feature of this power capacitor is to filter car AC voltage included by the amplifier power supply. This can cause audible interferences in the audio signal.

INSTALLATION
For best results, the power capacitor should be installed as close to the
amplifier as possible. The cables between the power capacitor and the
amplifier should be as short as possible and have as large a cross-section as
possible.
The cables must be laid in such a way that their insulation is not damaged
during installation and operation.
- Use the enclosed mounting brackets to screw the power capacitor to a mechanically stable point. Never mount the device on surfaces that vibrate strongly, such as a subwoofer enclosure.
- To avoid noise interference, the power capacitor should be grounded at thesame point where the amplifier is connected.
AUTO TURN-ON FUNCTION
The capacitor has an automatic turn-on function, i.e. it turns itself on with
the connected amplifier or amplifiers. When turning off the amplifier(s)
connected, it takes about 1 minute for the digital voltmeter to go out.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
Digital Voltmeter
The digital voltmeter shows the current operating voltage in volts. When the
applied voltage drops below 10 volts, the volt indicator will start flashing.
If the voltage falls below 5 volts, the volt indicator flashes with “0,00”.
If a voltage of more than 20 volts is applied, the voltmeter starts to flash
with “-,–”. In this case disconnect the power supply and check what causes the
overvoltage.
The digital volt indicator turns off when a stable voltage is applied for more
than a minute and will not turn on again until there is a voltage swing.
Status LEDs
The two status LEDs light up as soon as the capacitor is energized and the
automatic turn-on function switches it on.
Reverse polarity protection
The capacitor has a reverse polarity protection, if “+” and “-” are reversed
during connection. An acoustic warning tone sounds. In this case disconnect
the power supply and discharge the capacitor completely until the warning tone
can no longer be heard. Then reconnect the capacitor to the power supply and
check for the correct polarity of the power connections.
WIRING DIAGRAM
WARNING: Ensure always correct polarity! Danger of explosion!
INITIAL CHARGING PROCESS
When charging the power capacitor for the first time, the enclosed
charge/discharge resistor should be used in order to limit the charging
current and avoid connection sparks. Connect the ground wire to one of the “–”
ground terminals on the capacitor. Then clip the resistor to one of the “+”
terminals of the power capacitor and attach the “+” lead of the battery
terminal to the other end of the resistor.
During the charging process, the status LEDs flash between 5 ~ 10 volts.
The resistor can be removed when the power capacitor has reached about 10
volts. Now connect the “+” cable of the battery to one of the “+” battery
termi-nals of the power capacitor to complete charging up to 12~14V.
CAUTION: The resistor could become very hot during charging. Be sure to avoid
short-circuiting between the terminals.
DISCHARGING PROCESS
If the power capacitor is removed, it must be completely discharged for safety
reasons. To do this, clamp the supplied charging/discharging resistor between
one of the „+“ and one of the „-“ connections.
The discharging process can take a few minutes.
When discharging, the two status LEDs flash between 5 ~ 10 volts.
CAUTION: The resistor could become very hot during discharge. Never dis-
charge the capacitor without the enclosed resistor and under no circumstances
by short-circuiting the connections. The capacitor could be damaged or ex-
plode.
