The CA-POD14AC is an air-cooled lower fairing speaker adaptor designed for motorcycles. It allows for the installation of speakers in the lower fairings, enhancing the audio experience while riding. The adaptor is manufactured by JVCKENWOOD Corporation, a renowned company known for its high-quality audio products.

Product Usage Instructions

1. Remove the outer fairing/headlamp assembly from the motorcycle. To prevent scratches or damage, place a towel on the front fender.
2. If the lower fairings are still attached to the bike, remove them before proceeding. Refer to the service manual for assistance if needed.
3. Locate the painted cap that covers the fasteners holding the top of the lower fairing to the upper crash bar. Remove the cap and unscrew the front panel from the lower fairing. Detach the slider arm from the vent.
4. If your lower fairings have a pocket attached to the backside of the front panel, remove it to access the fastener securing the vent adjuster handle. Take out the fastener and set aside the handle.
5. Refer to Figure 1.1 for reference and drill a 3/8 (10mm) hole in each lower fairing. This hole will allow the speaker wires to pass through. Start with a smaller drill bit and gradually increase to the desired size. Remove any plastic burrs to prevent damage to the speaker wires over time.
6. Find the wire harness included in the CA-POD14AC kit. The harness consists of one longer 4-wire section that splits into two 2-wire sections, each labeled clutch side or brake side. Insert the appropriate short section into the corresponding lower fairing, ensuring that the speaker connectors are inside. Keep the wires loose for now.
7. Install the vent adjuster handles with arms into each lower speaker adaptor. Place the speaker adaptors onto the lower fairings, passing the speaker wires through the square opening into the speaker’s enclosure. Reattach the arm back into the vent. Secure the speaker adaptor to the lower fairing using the 3 screws previously removed.
8. Before re-installing the outer fairing, turn the front wheel to each extreme side to ensure that no wiring is obstructing the motorcycle’s steering. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or death.
9. Take the speakers you intend to install and connect them, ensuring that the black wire is connected to the positive (+) terminal. Secure the speakers to the lower fairings using the provided machine screws. Avoid overtightening the screws as the nutserts molded into the lower fairings are made of soft brass. Do not use any thread-locking material. It is recommended to use a hand screwdriver for this step.

Installation procedure

1. Remove the outer fairing/headlamp assembly (a towel on the front fender can help prevent scratches or “dings” from dropped tools or fasteners etc.). Refer to a service manual if you need help with this.
   • NOTE: The CA-POD14AC lower adaptors are MUCH easier to install with the lower fairings OFF the bike. The next steps assume the lower fairings are OFF the bike, so please remove them before proceeding.
2. When the lower fairings came off the bike, there was a painted “cap” that came off that exposed the fasteners that hold the top of the lower to the upper crash bar. Looking into the lower fairing from the area that was covered by the cap, you will see 3 screws that hold the front panel to the lower fairing. Remove these 3 screws and undo the “slider arm” from the vent so the front panel with the slider arm can come off the lower fairing. The 3 screws just removed will be re-used.
3. Depending on the lower fairings you have, if you have a “pocket” attached to the back side of the front panel, it will need to be removed to gain access to the fastener that holds the vent adjuster “handle” in place. With this pocket removed, undo the fastener that secures the “handle” and put the handle aside for now.
4. Using Fig 1.1 for reference, drill a 3/8″ (10mm) hole in the area highlighted by the white circle into each lower to allow the speaker wires to go in.
   • NOTE: Starting with a smaller drill bit and working your way up to the full size is a good idea. “Step bits” also work great for this. Make sure to clean up any plastic “burrs” so they don’t cut the speaker wires over time.
5. Locate the wire harness that came with the CA-POD14AC kit. You will see this harness has one longer 4-wire section that splits into two 2-wire sections. Each 2-wire section is labeled “clutch side” or “brake side”. Take the appropriate short section and put it in the correct side’s lower fairing so the speaker connectors are inside. Leave these loose for now.
6. Install the “vent adjuster handles” with arms into each lower speaker adaptor. Bring the speaker adaptors to the lower fairing and put the speaker wires through the square opening so they go into the speaker’s enclosure. With the wires in place, attach the arm back into the vent. The speaker adaptor will now sit in place on the lower fairing. Using the 3 screws removed earlier, secure the speaker adaptor to the lower fairing.
7. Mount the lower fairings back to the bike but leave the painted caps off for now.
8. From the back side of each lower fairing, you can now take up the extra wire. Make it so the wires aren’t “too loose” or “too tight” (ensuring to leave enough wire in the pod for the speaker to easily be plugged in and removed). The kit comes with strips of black gummy material. Use this like a putty to hold the wire in place and seal up the hole drilled earlier.
9. Take the 4-wire section of the lower harness and plug it into the wires coming out of each lower fairing, noting they will only go together one way. The rest of the harness will work its way up to the inside of the fairing. If you are using the KENWOOD XM160-2 amp, the 4-pin plug will go directly to it. If you are using a different brand of amplifier, the blue/black is the brake side, and the brown/black is the clutch side (note that the black wires are the positive (+)).
10. Re-install the painted caps.
    • NOTE: Now is the best time to use zip ties to properly secure and “clean up” any wiring. It’s always a good idea to remove excess from the zip ties by cutting them as close to flush as possible so there are no sharp edges.
    • Before re-installing the outer fairing, turn the front wheel to each extreme side, making sure any wiring is not impeding the steering of the motorcycle. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or death!
11. Take the speakers you will install and plug the speakers in (black wire is the positive (+)). Secure the speakers to the lower fairings using the supplied machine screws.
    • NOTE:  The “nutserts” molded into the lower fairings are brass, which is a soft material. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREWS AND DO NOT USE A “THREAD LOCKING MATERIAL” OF ANY KIND. A hand screwdriver is suggested for this step.
