CLEAN AND SAFE SPA WATER, IT’S SO EASY!

Congratulations on the purchase of your spa! You will enjoy your spa immensely. A private spa means relaxing whenever you want. And: the maintenance is really very simple, certainly with this special starter set. The most important thing during maintenance is to monitor the quality of the spa water. When you fill the bath with tap water for the first time, the water is of course clean and safe: our tap water is among the best in the world. By using the spa, the water gets polluted. This is because the user leaves behind skin flakes, sebum and perspiration in the warm water. In addition, there is quite a lot of microscopic pollution (dust, for example) coming down from the air. As a result, the water is not immediately unsafe or dirty, but if you do not monitor the chemical balance, it will become less fresh over time. This doesn’t matter at all, because with this starter set you have all the means at hand to make it easy to ensure clean spa water. Read the following guideline carefully before you go into the water for the first time!

Please note!
The indicated quantities of chemicals to add to your spa is a recommendation, no rights can be derived from this. Due to various influences, such as sun, rain, thunderstorms or how often the spa is used, the required dosage may deviate from the  recommendation. It is not possible to specify a fixed rule for all situations. Experience will teach you what the best dosage is for your spa.

Water treatment set for spas up to 1,000 litres:

Test strips
Spa (bathing) water test strips with which you can check in no time whether the water in your spa is OK.
Chlorine floater
Chlorine dosage floater to insert the tablets. The adjustable grey ring allows you to determine whether the tablets dissolve faster or slower.
ATTENTION: Never dose chlorine products and pH tablets in the same floater at the same time!
Minitabs chlorine tablets, contents 60 tablets
Quick-dissolving chlorine tablets of 2.7 grams to disinfect the spa (bathing) water, to be used in the chlorine floater, suitable for water contents up to 1,000 litres.
pH Minus tablets, contents 80 tablets
Tablets of 8 grams suitable for lowering the pH value of the spa (bathing) water, to be used in the chlorine floater.
FilterFlock tablets, contents 4 tablets
This flocculant improves the filter rating of the filter medium and collects the smallest particles for discharge to the filter.
Provides pure water within 24 hours and has no effect on pH or total alkalinity. Use one tablet per week.

PLEASE NOTE!

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Add chemicals to water and never the other way around.
  • Remove the chlorine floater when using the spa.

Algae control and disinfection

For the chlorine to have the best effect, the pH value of the spa water must be between 7.2 and 7.6. Use the test strips to determine the pH value. (Read more about the pH value below). With Interline pH Minus, you can lower the pH value. How to use the products is described in detail on the packaging.
To chlorinate spa water, observe the following: The spa must be filled with tap water (never fill with well water or groundwater). After the spa has been filled, you must first bring the pH to the correct level; then add the chlorine. The correct amount of chlorine per 1,000 litres of water (1 m3) and how you should administer it to the water is indicated on the packaging.
The first dose is used as a basis. Depending on the weather and the use of the spa, add chlorine regularly (4 to 6 grams per m3 of water). In the case of prolonged sunshine and higher water temperatures, this must be repeated daily and the chlorine consumption may be higher. You can assume that with practically no use of the spa and bubbles, less chlorine should be added. In this manual, we assume an average water temperature of 38 °C.

Method of dosing
After using bubbles and massage jets, the pH value rises to 8, which you must return to a value between 7.2 and 7.6 after use.
You can do this by using 2 to 5 tablets of pH Minus per 1,000 litres of water. If necessary, dissolve the required amount of pH Minus in a bucket of lukewarm water and distribute it in the spa (bathing) water. You must leave the pump on for a number of hours.

IMPORTANT: Never dose corrective agents simultaneously with chlorine. Always first correct the pH value and then dose chlorine at least one hour later.
The quick-dissolving Interline Minitabs tablets ensure the daily chlorination of your spa (bathing) water; you only use them in the chlorine floater supplied. Check regularly that the tablet has already dissolved completely; if necessary, insert a new one at the top of the floater. The adjustable grey ring allows you to determine whether the tablets dissolve faster or slower. In a chlorine floater, the dissolving time of a 2.7 gram chlorine tablet can be less than one day. This indication depends, among other things, on the capacity of the pump-filter system and how a chlorine floater is placed in the spa.
PLEASE NOTE: In addition to this brief manual, you should also read the instructions for use on the labels carefully or you can visit our website www .interline-products.com
Checking with the test set
Both the chlorine present and the pH value can be measured by means of the test strip. This set is easy to use.

  1. Pick up a test strip at the end without the pads.
  2. Dip the test strip briefly in the water.
  3. Do not shake off the excess water, keep the strip horizontal for 15 seconds.
  4. Use the colour comparison card on the back of the packaging. This should be done within 30 seconds.

ATTENTION!
Always test your (bathing) water after using the spa!

General information

  1. What is the pH value?
The pH value is the acidity of the (bathing) water. This is measured in values from 1 to 14, where 7 is theoretically neutral. For good chlorination, the pH value must be between 7.2 and 7.8. This can easily be checked with the test set. If the pH value is below 7.2, pH Plus must be added. If the pH value is above 7.8, pH Minus must be added.

  2. Why is the pH value so important?
If the pH value is low (below 7.2), the water is too acidic. This can cause irritated eyes and skin when swimming. Too low a pH value also causes the chlorine present in the spa (bathing) water to become unstable. As a result, three important functions of chlorine (killing bacteria, killing algae and controlling organic substances) are no longer properly fulfilled. If the pH value is above 7.6, the spa (bathing) water is too alkaline. This causes the chlorine to bond with other substances in the spa (bathing) water, such as ammonia. Too high a pH value can also lead to eye and skin irritation.

  3. Bonded chlorine and its consequences
    – A strong chlorine smell. When the pH value and the chlorine content are both in order, there is little or no chlorine smell.
    – The test strip indicates a high chlorine content, but the chlorine is not functional.
    – The spa (bathing) water looks a bit grey and cloudy.
    – Users complain of eye irritation.

  4. Water maintenance tips
By preventing as much pollution as possible from outside your spa, you prevent a great deal of cleaning work in and on your spa.
For this purpose, we recommend the following:
    – Make sure that no one enters the water with grass, sand, dust or dirt on their feet.
    – Check, clean and replace the filter in good time.
    – Vacuum the dirt from the bottom regularly.
    – Do not use sharp objects in or around the spa.
    – Do not leave your pets in the water.
    – Test several times a week, so that you can see the effect of the chemicals on your spa water when administering or not, before and after using your spa.
    – If the wall or bottom of your spa is smooth, but the water is still clear, then it is time to take action for your water maintenance.
