Intended use
This mobile unit can be used to reprocess machine-reprocessable medical devices, laboratory glassware and utensils in a Miele washer disinfector. Follow the operating instructions for your washer-disinfector as well as the instructions of the medical device or glassware and utensil manufacturer on how to reprocess their items by machine.
The A 501 mobile unit can be used on its own or with application specific modules and inserts.
For example, DIN mesh trays containing surgical instruments, containers or lamp handles can be reprocessed.
Lumened instruments from fields such as microsurgery, gynaecology or otorhinolaryngology can be reprocessed using additional modules.
The mobile unit can be used in the following washer-disinfectors:
- PLW 8615
- PLW 8616
- PLW 8617
- PWD 8626
- PWD 8628
The washer-disinfector is generally referred to as “the machine” in these operating instructions. Reprocessable medical devices, laboratory glassware and utensils are referred to as “items” if they are not more closely defined.

Disposal of the packing material
The packaging is designed to protect against transportation damage. The packaging materials used are selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and should be recycled.
Recycling the packaging reduces the use of raw materials in the manufacturing process and also reduces the amount of waste in landfill sites.
Warning and Safety instructions
To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to this mobile unit please read
these instructions carefully before using it for the first time.
Keep these instructions in a safe place where they are accessible to users at
all times.
Please also read the operating instructions for your washer disinfector and pay particular attention to the Warning and Safety instructions
- The mobile unit is approved solely for the applications specified in the “Areas of application” chapter of these operating instructions. Applications that go beyond those listed and use of the mobile unit with additional components from the Miele product range are described in the operating instructions for the components or are to be agreed with Miele.
- New mobile units and baskets must be washed in the washer-disinfector without a wash load prior to first use.
- Inspect all load carriers as described in the “Maintenance” section in the operating instructions for the cleaning machine.
- Broken glass can result in serious injury when loading or unloading. Damaged glass items must not be reprocessed in the machine.
Medical devices
- The reprocessing programme used should include thermal disinfection, and the chemical agents used must be suitable for the material quality of the wash load.
- The last rinse, as a minimum, must be carried out with DI water.
- Visual checks should be undertaken to check the cleaning result. Additional protein analysis checks should also be carried out e.g. weekly, on a random sampling basis.
Laboratory glassware and utensils
- The reprocessing result must be checked as necessary using a suitable test method and not just by a visual check.
Miele cannot be held liable for damage caused by non-compliance with these Warning and Safety Instructions.
Areas of application
For validation purposes please make sure that you follow the loading instructions given on the template.
To check before loading the machine and before starting a programme
- Are the stoppers in the water supply to individual modules functional?
- Are the inserted modules correctly connected to the water supply of the mobile unit?
- Check that the mobile unit is correctly docked to the water path in the chamber.
Programme selection
When selecting a programme manually on the machine, the relevant mobile unit must be selected first. Pictograms representing the mobile units are shown on the display.
The pictogram of the mobile unit without inserted modules can be found on a strut on the front of the mobile unit.
For the A 501 mobile unit, the pictogram below is displayed.
Once you have selected the pictogram, the list of assigned reprocessing programmes is displayed.

Modules
The A 501 mobile unit can be equipped with various modules in order
to reprocess loads from different disciplines, for example:
- There are 5 water couplings available for reprocessing modules containing lumened instruments.
- For intensive cleaning of lumened instruments, the A 610 module can be inserted into the upper level of the mobile unit in the case of machines with the Power Pulse Cleaning option.
- In order to reprocess 18 standard mesh trays without connectors, 2 additional A 601 levels are required in the positions indicated by the dashed lines.

A 501 mobile unit with 2 A 607 modules and 2 A 608 modules
Inserting A 607 modules
The A 607 modules can be connected to all water couplings on the mobile unit.
- Place the module on the mobile unit level at a slight angle and slide it up to the water couplings.
- Plug the module connector firmly into the water coupling of the mobile unit.
- Then press the module retainer downwards until the module locking mechanism clicks into place on the strut of the mobile unit or the A 601 level.
The arrows on the module and the mobile unit should be pointing at each other.
Inserting A 608 modules
The A 608 module can be connected to the water couplings on the first and second levels of the mobile unit, on the right-hand side in the A 504 mobile unit.
- Holding the module at an angle, slide it up to the water coupling on the mobile unit level.
- Plug the module connector firmly into the water coupling of the mobile unit.
- Then place the module retainers on the strut on the left-hand side of the mobile unit.
Inserting A 610 module
The A 610 module can only be used in conjunction with the PowerPulse Cleaning
option on the machine.
The module connection for internal cleaning and supplying medical compressed
air is established via a connector on the left-hand side of the wash chamber
ceiling. The funnel which holds the connector must be opposite the water
supply to the mobile unit.
Removing modules
-
Place the module on the two struts in the upper level of the mobile unit.
The module sits horizontally on the two struts of the mobile unit. -
To remove modules from the mobile unit, follow the steps in the “Inserting modules” section in reverse order.
