Sensor Protective Case

REFRIGERANT LEAK DETECTOR

Main Features (Leakage)

  1. The refrigerant leak detector detects the concentration of refrigerant (R32) in the air.
  2. When the concentration of refrigerant in the air is 5,000 ppm or higher, the wired remote controller displays an error and the sensor issues an alarm so that the user realizes that there is a refrigerant leak.
  3. Stop the operation of the relevant indoor unit to minimize the refrigerant leak.
  4. The user must vacate and ventilate the area when the refrigerant leak detector issues an alarm.
  5. After ventilation, contact the service center.

LG-MFL68102203-Air-Conditioner-FIG-7

  • When the concentration of the refrigerant becomes high, you may suffocate due to a lack of oxygen.
  • Detect for only a refrigerant leak in the room where the product is installed.

Main Features (Malfunction, Lifetime)

  1. The R32 refrigerant leak detector determines its malfunction and lifetime.
  2. If the sensor is burnt out or its life has expired after a certain period, the LED of the sensor turns on and a buzzer alarm sounds.
  3. When such an alarm sounds, the product must be replaced with a new one.

LG-MFL68102203-Air-Conditioner-FIG-8

Used time (day) is incremented by one day only when power is continuously supplied more than 24 hours.

  • Time precision: ±2%

HOW TO INSTALL

  1. Installation Place to Improve Detection Performance

    • Install at a height of 0.3 m off the ground (generally lower than the height of a bed). Because R32 is heavier than air, the refrigerant leak detector must be installed near the floor.
WARNING: Installation location requirements for separate installation

    • From the floor of the room to the leak detector: 0.3 m or less

    • From the indoor unit to the leak detector

    • Within a horizontal distance of 10 m (if there are no obstacles between the refrigerant sensor and the indoor unit)

    • Within a horizontal distance of 7 m (if there is an obstacle between the refrigerant sensor and the indoor unit)

  2. Securing the Installation Location

    • Install with the appropriate connecting cable length to connect from the indoor unit.
    • It must be installed properly to help facilitate servicing.
NOTE: Do not install a connecting cable that is 30 m or longer. (It may cause a communication failure.)
  3. Installation Place to Prevent Wrong Detection
    Other Gas Factors

    • The wrong alarm may go off due to gases other than R32.
    • Gases from ethanol, cigarettes, pesticides, and beauty sprays can cause wrong detection in refrigerant leak detectors.

Environmental Factors

  • It must be installed away from a cold wind or a heat source like a radiator.
  • Steam sources must be avoided.
  • A humid environment or water-prone areas must be avoided.

NOTE

  • False detection may occur depending on the installation location of the refrigerant leak detector.
  • Places where other gases may be generated: Fruit storage, closed space, and places where exhaust gases are excessively emitted
  • Places which are very humid or water prone: restroom, washstand

INSTALLATION ORDER

  1. Affix the sensor protective case (backplate) firmly by using the set screws within height of 0.3 m from the floor. <If there are no obstacles between the refrigerant leak detector and the indoor unit : Within a horizontal distance of 10 m>
<If there is an obstacle between the refrigerant sensor and the indoor unit: Within a horizontal distance of 7 m>
    CAUTION

    • Do not install it around the window or door. When it is installed, the refrigerant leak detector may fail to detect gases.
    • Do not install at a location where an electrical outlet is located. (Due to a gap with the sensor protective case (backplate), the cover may be bent.)
  2. The Connecting cable can be installed in any of five directions. Adjust and install it in a suitable direction according to the installation environment.

    • Installation directions: Wall embedded, top right, top left, left and right
    • When installing the connecting cable to the upper, right, or bottom surface, remove the guide grooves from the connecting cable. (*Remove the guide grooves with a long nose plier.)
    • The Connecting Cable housing (white) is connected to the PCB inside the Sensor Assembly.LG-MFL68102203-Air-Conditioner-FIG-11
  3. Connect the indoor unit and the sensor by using the connecting cable.
    CAUTION

    • When installing a refrigerant leak detector in the Ceiling Mounted Cassette, Ceiling Concealed Duct, Ceiling Suspended fix the ferrite core with a cable tie to the connecting pipes or DC wire (such as remote controller wire) to prevent movement of the ferrite core.
    • When installing a refrigerant leak detector in the Wall Mounted Unit, fix the body of the ferrite core with a cable tie to the connecting pipes to prevent movement of the ferrite core.
    • Be careful not to damage the connecting pipes insulation when cutting the cable tie.LG-MFL68102203-Air-Conditioner-FIG-13
  4. Affix the upper part of the sensor protective cover (front plate) to the sensor protective case (backplate) that is attached to the wall as shown in the figure to the right. Press to combine with the left and right part. Then tighten the screw at the bottom.

  5. Assemble all four sides of the sensor protective cases to prevent any gap from
    occurring.
To remove the sensor protective cover, loosen the screw at the bottom as shown. Press the left and right parts of the sensor protective cover (front plate) and remove the upper part first.

  6. If the distance between the refrigerant leak detector and the indoor unit is 10 m or longer, use an extension cable.

    • Do not install a cable that is 30 m or longer. (It may cause communication failure.)

CAUTION: When installing the refrigerant leak detector, do not embed into the wall. Do not install a cable that is 30 m or longer. (It may cause communication failure.)

  • To install the extension cable, check the direction of the refrigerant leak detector connected to the indoor unit.
  • When the extension cable is connected in reverse, the connector cannot be connected.
  • Specification of extension cable: AWG 24, 3 conductor or above. (Contact service center for purchase)

TEST RUN

Pre-check
This is a step to check whether the refrigerant leak detector is properly installed for the test run.

  1. Check whether the power is connected.
  2. After connecting the power, 7 seconds is the initial sensor startup time.
  3. After 7 seconds, ensure that the green LED light turns on.

If no leaks are detected or the sensor is malfunctioning, the following warning will appear:

  1. **When a leak is not detected:** The green LED always turns on.
  2. **Malfunction:** The red LED of the Refrigerant leak detector blinks every 10 seconds.
3. Ventilate the surroundings. After changing the outdoor unit function settings, reset the system. (Roughly 30 seconds after shutdown, turn the power on.)

The alarm cannot be turned off from the Refrigerant leak detector unless the entire system is reset.
