Proper use

The product is intended for charging 6 and 12-volt lead-acid batteries (liquid electrolyte, gel, maintenance-free (MF), AGM) and 12.8-V 4-cell lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO4) in motor vehicles (motorcycle, scooter, car, old timer).

Product features

The charger is microprocessor-controlled and works through a series of different charging steps. It is thus able to charge the battery types specified under Point 4 to almost 100% of their capacity

Where vehicles are left standing for longer time periods, the charger can remain continuously connected; through trickle charging, it can reliably prevent battery discharge.

Automatic voltage detection

The charger automatically detects whether the battery for charging is a6or 12-volt battery.

Charging steps

  • Charging step 1: Check
General check of the connected battery (reverse polarity) and the current voltage before actual charging.

  • Charging step 2: Preparation for charging
Depending on the results from Step 1, a recovery is performed for sulphated batteries. Success will depend on the battery’s state of wear and level of sulphation. This is part of the standard charging programme and does not replace the Recover special programme (see Point 6.5).

  • Charging step 3: Soft start
Check of the battery’s charging capability. Detects deeply discharged or sulphated batteries (‘chemically dead’) and protects against the charging of defective batteries.

  • Charging step 4: Bulk
If the check results indicate that everything is fine, the battery is charged to up to 80% of its capacity with full charging current. This step is shown on the display by means of the bars inside the battery symbol: 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%.

  • Charging steps 5–6: Absorption
Gently charges the battery to its full capacity with a decreasing charging current.

  • Charging step 7: Trickle charge 1
In this step, merely a minimal, constant charging current is used to keep the battery at 100% capacity. If more current is needed to maintain the capacity, the charger switches to Step 8.

  • Charging step 8: Pulse charging
The battery is constantly monitored and is continually brought to full capacity with a pulsed charging current. This cycle can be used for storage of the battery or for a vehicle that is left standing for a longer time period. The charger can remain continuously connected during this time.

Memory/reset function

The charger automatically stores the last charging mode (charging programme and charging step) when it is disconnected from the battery or the power cable is removed.
If the stored charging mode is not compatible with a different connected battery, the charger is automatically reset and remains in Standby mode.

Charging in low ambient temperatures

The charger is suitable for charging in low temperatures (-20°C – 5°C); for this purpose, it has a programme addition ( ) for  the 6-V and the 12-V charging programme (voltage increase compared with the standard charging programme).

Battery recovery (Recover 12 V)

Deeply discharged and aged 12-V batteries can be recovered using the Recover mode, providing they are not too used/aged.

Getting started and operation

| Warning
Before getting started, check all cables and kink protection/ insulating rubber for damages. Do not put the product into operation if these components are damaged!
---|---
| Note – Polarity of the contact tongs

• Red (= positive (+)) must be connected to the positive pole (+) of the battery.
• Black (= negative (-)) must be connected to the negative pole (-) of the battery.

Connection
  • Connect the charger’s contact tongs to the battery connections, observing correct polarity. Begin with the positive (+) pole.
  • Connect the charger’s power cable to an approved power socket. The electrical socket must always be easily accessible.
  • The symbol (G) will flash if the battery is connected with polarity reversed. Damage to the battery or charger is prevented through the integrated protection against reverse polarity
  • The battery’s terminal voltage is automatically detected and shown in the display’s numerical block (E).
  • After charging, disconnect the charger from the power supply and from the battery (that is, in reversed order) unless the battery is to be used for trickle charging. Begin with the power cable and the negative (-) pole.
Charging status indicator

The battery charging status indicator (A) gives information on the current charging status of the battery:

  • 1 bar (20%), 2 bars (40%), 3 bars (60%), 4 bars (80%), 5 bars (90%)
  • A flashing battery bar during charging indicates that the respective capacity is not yet reached.
  • The battery is charged to 100% if the charging status indicator shows all five bars and none of the bars flash.
Charge 12 volt
  • If 12 volt has been automatically detected as the charging voltage, repeatedly press the MODE selection button (1) to switch between the various charging programmes and select the required one.

  • You can switch between the charging programmes in the following order: Standby, „ “, „ “, „ “, „ “.
The order then starts from the beginning again.

  • Select the charging programme that is suitable for the battery size and the ambient temperature (for a description of the programmes, see table under Point 4).

  • Once a charging programme has been selected, charging will start automatically

Charge 6 volt
  • If 6 volt has been automatically detected as the charging voltage, repeatedly press the MODE selection button (1) to switch between the various charging programmes and select the required one.

  • You can switch between the charging modes in the following order: Standby, „6V“, „6V “.
The order then starts from the beginning again.

  • Select the charging programme that is suitable for the ambient temperature (for a description of the programmes, see table under Point 4).

  • Once a charging programme has been selected, charging will start automatically.

Selecting the Lithium 12.8 V or Recover 12 V special programme
  • Repeatedly press and hold the MODE selection button (1) for approximately 3 seconds to select one of the special programmes, namely Lithium 12.8 V or Recover 12 V.
  • You can switch between them in the following order: Standby, „Lithium 12,8V“, „Recover 12V“. The order then starts from the beginning again.
Recover 12 volt

| Warning – Only for 12-volt lead-acid batteries

  • Use the Recover mode solely for 12-volt lead-acid batteries (liquid electrolyte, gel, maintenance-free (MF), AGM) that are already aged and no longer fully functional!
  • New and fully functional 12-volt batteries can be damaged through the Recover mode.
  • In Recover mode, there may be increased escape of explosive gases from the battery. Avoid sparks, heat and fire in close proximity, and run the Recover mode only in well-ventilated spaces.
  • Never use the Recover mode for 6-volt batteries! As a faultless 6-volt battery can also be detected as a deeply discharged 12-volt battery, the 12-V Recover mode can be inadvertently set. These batteries are overcharged with the high charging voltage and damaged.
  • Never use the Recover mode for 12.8-volt 4-cell LiFePO4 batteries! These batteries are overcharged with the high charging voltage and damaged.

---|---

Depending on the degree of ageing and chemical degradation, this charging programme CAN regenerate a deeply discharged   lead-acid battery to a certain extent.

  • Press and hold the MODE selection button (1) as described in Point 6.5, to select the Recover 12 V charging programme.
  • If the battery is too damaged and cannot be recovered (no increase in voltage to 12 V within 3 hours), the fault symbol (F) flashes and the charger ends the Recover programme (Standby).
  • Promptly obtain a replacement battery from a specialist retailer.

Care and Maintenance

| Note
Disconnect the device from the power supply before cleaning it or if it is not going to be used for a long period of time.
---|---

  • Only clean this product with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth and do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
  • Make sure that water does not get into the product.
