Provision for ventilation

  • WARNING: The use of a gas cooking appliance results in the production of heat and moisture in the room in which it is installed. Ensure that the room is well-ventilated.
  • The hob SHOULD NOT be installed in a bed-sitting room with a volume of less than 20m.
  • If it is installed in a room of volume less than 5m° an air vent of effective area of 110cm? is required.
  • If it is installed in a room of volume between 5m° and 10m° an air vent of effective area of 50cm? is required.
  • However, if the room has a door which opens directly to the outside no air vent is required even if the volume is between 5m and 11m.
  • If there are other fuel burning appliances in the same room, it should be consulted to determine the requisite air vent requirements.

Location

  • The hob may be located in a kitchen, a kitchen/diner or bed sitting room, BUT NOT in a bathroom or garage.
  • Before cutting out in the worktop ensure that the edges of the hob that are to be near either a side or rear wall have a minimum distance of 60mm between the edge of the hob and the wall.
  • The minimum distance combustible material can be fitted above the hob is 400mm. If it is fitted below 400mm a space of 50mm must be allowed from the edge of the hob.
  • The minimum distance combustible material can be fitted directly above the hob is 700mm.
  • A minimum distance of 200mm must be left between the side edges of the hob and any adjacent cabinet or wall.

When the hob is first installed

  • Once the hob has been installed, it is important to remove any protective materials which were put on in the factory.
  • On the end of the shaft, which includes the G 1/2″ threaded elbow, adjustment is fixed so that the washer is fitted between the components as shown in the diagram. Screw the parts together without using excessive force.
  • It is important to install the elbow correctly, with the shoulder on the end of the thread, fitted to the hob connection pipe.
  • Failure to ensure the correct assembly will cause leakage of gas.
  • A. End of shaft
  • B. Washer
  • C. Elbow

Important:

  • When installing the hob above a built-in oven, the oven should be placed on two wooden strips; in the case of a joining cabinet surface, leave a space of at least 45 × 560mm at the back see diagrams below).
  • When installing the hob above a built-in oven without forced ventilation, ensure that there are air inlets and outlets for ventilating the interior of the cabinet adequately (see diagrams below).

Gas connection

  • Connection to the gas supply should be with either rigid or semi-rigid pipe, i.e. steel or copper.
  • The connection should be suitable for connecting to RC 1/2″ (1/2 BS male thread).
  • When the final connection has been made, it is essential that a thorough leak test is carried out on the hob and installation. This test should be conducted by a qualified technician, using a specific bubble product (no bubbles should appear). Never use naked light sources to check for gas leakage. Ensure that the main connection pipe does not exert any strain on the hob.
  • Make sure to check the hose validity date regularly.

Fitting the hob into the worktop

  • To fit the hob into the worktop, proceed as follows:PROLINE-PGH4FGL-FR-Gas-Hob-fig-9
  1. Carefully turn the hob upside down and place it on a cushioned mat.

  • Turn the gas tap to the MAX position and ignite.
  • Set the gas tap to the MIN flame position then turn the control knob from to
  • several times. If the flame is unstable or is extinguished follow the procedure below.

Procedure:

  • Re-ignite the burner and set it to
  • Remove the control knob.
  • To adjust, use a thin-bladed screwdriver (not supplied) and turn the adjustment screw until the flame is steady and does not extinguish when the knob is turned Repeat this procedure for all burners.

Pressure testing

  • Remove the left-hand pan support and front left burner cap and crown.
  • Fit the manometer tube over the injector.
  • Turn on the burner gas supply and ignite another burner.
  • Turn off the burner supplies.

CONVERSION FROM NATURAL GAS TO LPG

Important

  • The replacement conversion of the gas hob should only be undertaken by a competent person.
  • It is important to note that this model is designed for use with natural gas but can be converted for use with butane or propane gas provided the correct injectors are fitted.
  • The gas rate is adjusted to suit.

Method

  • Ensure that the control knobs are in the position.
  • Cut off the gas supply and disconnect the hob from the main socket.
  • Remove all pan supports, burner caps, rings, crowns, and control knobs.
  • With a 7mm box spanner (not supplied), unscrew the burner injectors and replace them with the appropriate LPG injectors.

To adjust the gas rate

  • With a thin bladed screwdriver (not supplied), completely tighten down the by pass adjustment screw. When finishing adjusting the gas rate, stick the replacement rating label on the underside of the hob.

OPERATION

Switching On a Burner

To determine which knob controls which burner, check the position symbol next to the control knob.

  1. Press the control knob of the required burner and turn it anticlockwise to the maximum power setting.
    • While the control knob is still pressed down, sparks will be produced on the burner. The flame will ignite.
    • In case of ignition failure, you can use any type of lighter or flame (cigarette lighter, matches, etc.) and bring it close to the burner. CARE MUST BE TAKEN when using this method.
  2. Release the control knob.
  3. Turn the control knob to the required setting.

Risk of deflagration!

  • If after 15 seconds the flame does not ignite, switch off the burner and open a nearby window or door to ventilate the room. Wait at least 1 minute before trying to switch the burner back on.
  • If you cannot light the burner even after several attempts, check the cap and crown are in the correct position.

NOTE: When switching on a burner, after installation or a power cut, it is normal for the ignition spark to be activated automatically.
WARNING: If the burner flames are accidentally blown out, switch off the burner and do not try to relight it for at least 1 minute.

Switching Off a Burner

Turn the corresponding control knob clockwise to the • position.

Cooking Pans

Suitable pans

Burner/Minimum pan diameter

  • Rapid burner: 20 cm
  • SemiͲrapid burners: 16 cm
  • Auxiliary burner: 12 cm
  • Maximum pan diameter
  • 24 cm
  • 18 cm
  • 16 cm

Precautions for use

  • Use pans which are the right size for each burner (see above table). Do not use small pans on large burners. The flame must not touch the sides of the pans.
  • Only use pans with a flat base.
  • Always position pans over the centre of the cooking zone, and turn the handles to a safe position so they cannot be knocked or grabbed.
  • Never operate the hob without pans.
  • When you do not use the appliance, keep the gas valve off.
  • Take care when frying food in hot oil or fat, as the overheated splashes could easily ignite.
  • As soon as liquid starts boiling, turn down the flame so that it will keep the liquid simmering.
If the control knobs are difficult to turn, please contact your local service centre.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

  • Always turn off the gas valve and disconnect the hob from the mains socket before any cleaning or maintenance operation is carried out.
  • The hob is best cleaned whilst it is still warm, as spillage can be removed more easily then if it is left to cool.

Hob top

  • Regularly clean the hob top using a soft cloth well wrung out in warm soapy water.

Avoid the use of the following:

  • household detergent and bleaches; impregnated pads unsuitable for non-stick saucepans; steel-wool pads; bath sink stain removers.
  • When cleaning the hob top, make sure that no water flows inside the burner caps, as this may block the injectors.
  • Pan supports, burner caps and crowns
  • The pan supports, burner caps and crowns can be removed for cleaning.
  • Clean them using hot soapy water and remove marks with a mild paste cleaner. If the marks are particularly difficult to remove, a well-moistened soap impregnated steel wool pad can be used with caution.
  • After cleaning, be sure to wipe dry with a soft cloth and to reassemble the parts correctly.

Ignition sparker and thermocouple

  • The holes and grooves must be clean for the flame to ignite properly.
  • If the ignition sparkers are dirty they will not light properly. Clean them regularly using a small non-wire brush. The ignition sparkers must not suffer any serious impacts.
  • The thermocouples are extremely important since they cut gas supply in case a flame goes out during cooking; be sure to keep them clean.

Maintenance

  • Periodically check the gas connection pipe. Even if any simple abnormality is felt, inform the technical service to have it changed. We recommend the gas connection parts to be changed once a year.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • If the hob is not working properly, please carry out the following checks before calling the technical assistance service.PROLINE-PGH4FGL-FR-Gas-Hob-fig-17
