Product Information

The MIC Unitized Riser Cables are designed for easy identification and quick installation. They have a jacketed subunit construction with 6, 12, or 24 fibers. The cables are all-dielectric, meaning they require no grounding or bonding. They have a flame-retardant jacket that makes them rugged and durable. The cables meet various standards and listings including UL-1666, CSA FT-4, and ICEA S-83596. They are available in different fiber counts including 36, 48, 60, 72, 96, and 144 fibers. The cables have different specifications such as temperature range, mechanical characteristics, weight, and bend radius. In terms of transmission performance, the cables support different fiber categories including multimode and single-mode. They have different performance options and wavelengths with maximum attenuation values specified for each fiber category.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Identification: The cables have a jacketed subunit construction with 6, 12, or 24 fibers. Each subunit can be easily identified for quick installation.
  2. Grounding and Bonding: These cables are all-dielectric and do not require grounding or bonding during installation.
  3. Installation Temperature: It is recommended to store the cable in a proper temperature environment prior to installation. This ensures that the cable temperature meets the installation temperature range specifications for better installation results.
  4. Bend Radius: During installation, maintain the minimum bend radius specified for each fiber count to prevent damage to the cables. The minimum bend radius values are provided in the user manual.
  5. Transmission Performance: Depending on the fiber category and performance option, the cables support different wavelengths and have specific maximum attenuation values. Refer to the user manual for detailed information on transmission performance for each fiber category.

Features and Benefits

Standards

  • Listings National Electrical Code® (NEC®) OFNR, FT-4
  • Design and Test Criteria UL-1666 and CSA FT-4 (for riser and general building applications); ICEA S-83- 596

Corning MIC® unitized riser cables are designed for use in riser and general purpose environments for intrabuilding backbone installations. These multifiber cables use individually jacketed 900 μm buffered fibers enabling easy, consistent stripping and facilitating termination. The 6-, 12-, or 24-fiber subunits allow quick and easy identification and are surrounded by dielectric strength members and protected by a flame-retardant outer jacket. The all-dielectric cable construction requires no grounding or bonding, making these cables ideal for routing inside buildings including riser shafts, to the telecommunications rooms and workstations. The MIC Unitized Riser Cables meet the application requirements of the National Electrical Code® (NEC®) Article 770 and the ICEA S-83- 596 test criteria. They are OFNR and FT-4 listed. This cable is available in 12 different jacket colors – blue, orange, green, brown, slate, white, red, black, yellow, violet, rose and aqua. The colored jacket allows for easy visual identification of the cables. The standard jacket color will be determined by the dominant fiber type in the cable and will use the standard part numbers shown here.
