How to Set Up the Metal Detector
Only the length of the stem and the angle of the search coil have to be adjusted. Adjusting the Length of the Stem

Adjusting the Length of the Stem

  1. Turn the nut off the stem clockwise until it loosens.
  2. Adjust the length of the stem until you can walk comfortably with the search coil at 0.5 to 2″ above the ground.
  3. Tighten the nut by turning counterclockwise.

Adjusting the Position of the Search Coil

  1. Loosen the knobs of the search coil and rotate the unit until it is parallel to the ground.
  2. Tighten the knobs to keep the search coil from vibrating or rotating during use.

Battery Installation

Remove the cover of the battery compartment located on the handle and insert a new 9 V battery. Observe the polarity indications

Operation

  • The CS50 Treasure Hunter enables you to hunt for coins, jewelry, gold, and silver.
  • The LED indicator on the handle will light when a metal object is detected and the buzzer will be activated.
  • Hold the CS50 in a comfortable position with the search coil parallel to a surface free of metal objects. Put the adjustable “ON/OFF” sensitivity switch (on the handle) in the position where the LED indicator lights up slightly and the buzzer produces the faintest of beeping sounds.
  • This is the “no-metal-detected” threshold position in which the CS50 is at its most sensitive. Rotate the dial even further to enter the “metal-detected” state.
  • Use the “maximum sensitivity point” to perform a test on a metal object. The buzzer will beep at max. volume and the LED will light at max. intensity. These elements indicate that a metal object has been detected.
  • Place the sensitivity switch exactly between the “no metal detected”-state and the “metal detected”-state. Familiarize yourself with the sensitivity of the device by repeating the test with objects of different sizes made of various metals, such as copper, iron, and aluminum.

Note: The max. sensitivity position will be influenced by environmental factors.

Tips for Treasure Hunters

  • Always install the max. sensitivity position when using the device.
  • Sweep the metal detector from side to side while maintaining a constant distance between the search coil and the ground. Do not swing the detector like a pendulum.
  • Take your time. You may miss a target if you walk too fast.

Universal Code of Conduct for the Treasure Hunter

  1. Never search a site without the permission of the owner.
  2. Observe all relevant national, regional, and local laws.
  3. Do not destroy objects of historical or archaeological value. Contact a museum or a historical society in case you find an object you cannot define.
  4. Leave the vegetation of the site intact and fill in any holes you may have dug during your search.

Cleaning and Maintenance

  • The search head is waterproof and can be submerged in either fresh or salt water. The handle, however, is not waterproof. Rinse the search head with fresh water to prevent corrosion of the metal parts after using the device in salt water.
  • Replace the battery when the buzzer weakens.
  • Replace old batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Handle the CS50 gently and with care. Dropping it may damage the circuit board or the housing and may cause the device to malfunction.
