MIX-8PRO USB/PC 8-CHANNEL MIXER

The MIX-8PRO is a professional 8-channel stereo mixer with a PC audio card and USB recorder/player. It allows you to play audio content from your PC and record audio on your PC simultaneously. The mixer includes a 24-bit digital effects processor with 16 effects selection and level control, which will give an extra touch to your performances.

Controls
The MIX-8PRO features the following controls:

  • CH 1 to CH 8: channels with MIC and LINE inputs
  • RETURN: stereo return input for connecting external effects processors
  • L/R MAIN MIX: stereo output mix
  • L/R 2 TRACK: stereo output for recording
  • SEND: bus for sending signals to external effects processors or monitor speakers
  • PHONES: headphone output
  • FX (DSP): button for selecting the integrated effects processor
  • GAIN: input gain control for MIC and LINE inputs
  • HIGH/MID/LOW: EQ controls for high, mid and low frequencies
  • PAN: control that adjusts the stereo image in the final mix
  • MUTE: button for muting individual channels
  • CLIP: LED indicator that lights up when the signal is distorted

Rear Panel
The MIX-8PRO features the following connections on the rear panel:

  • MIC: XLR connector for connecting microphones
  • LINE: 6.3 mm jack for connecting line-level devices
  • RETURN: 6.3 mm jack for connecting external effects processors
  • SEND: 6.3 mm jack for sending signals to external effects processors or monitor speakers
  • PHONES: 6.3 mm jack for connecting headphones
  • USB: USB port for connecting to a computer

Usage Instructions

To use the MIX-8PRO, follow these instructions:

  1. Connect your microphones or line-level devices to the MIC or LINE inputs on channels 1 to 8.
  2. Adjust the input sensitivity using the GAIN controls for each channel.
  3. Use the HIGH/MID/LOW controls to adjust the EQ for each channel.
  4. Use the PAN control to adjust the stereo image in the final mix.
  5. Use the FX (DSP) button to select the integrated effects processor and adjust the effect level using the FX parameter control.
  6. Use the SEND button to send signals to external effects processors or monitor speakers and adjust the send level using the SEND VOL control.
  7. Adjust the headphone volume using the PHONES VOL control.
  8. Connect the mixer to your computer using the USB port to use it as an audio card.
  9. Use the REC button to record audio on your computer and use the PLAY button to play audio from your computer.

Make sure to switch on the PHANTOM +48 V button if you are using condenser microphones that require phantom power.

Note that the CLIP LED indicator lights up when the signal is distorted. Adjust the GAIN control to prevent distortion.

Mixer inputs:

  • MIC: microphone input, use the channel GAIN control to change the input sensitivity, balanced XLR connector. It is possible to connect condenser microphones. For this  purpose, the phantom power must be switched on with the PHANTOM +48 V button.

  • LINE: line input, use the channel GAIN control to change the input sensitivity, 6.3 mm jack unbalanced.

  • GAIN: input gain control. For the MIC microphone input (XLR) the range is from +20 dB to +64 dB, and for the LINE input (6.3 mm jack) from -6 dB to +38 dB.

  • HIGH: high pass filter with 12 kHz cut-off frequency.

  • MID: band pass filter with a centre frequency of 2.5 kHz.

  • LOW: low pass filter with 80 Hz cut-off frequency.

  • FX (DSP)/SEND: channel send selector to the FX (DSP) integrated effects processor or to the SEND bus.

  • Volume control of signal to be sent to FX (DSP) or SEND, depe ding on the FX (DSP)/ SEND selection button.

  • PAN: control that adjusts the stereo image in the final mix.

  • MUTE: button that allows you to mute this channel which is sent to the SEND bus or to the FX integrated effects processor (DSP).

  • CLIP: LED which ghts up when the input signal level is too high. In this case, decrease the input level by GAIN control until the LED turns off or turns on occasionally.

  • Input channel volume slider.

Input and output connectors:

  • RETURN: stereo input for external effects processor with independent volume control, 2 x 6.3 mm jack balanced connectors. If you only insert the L connector, the audio received by the mixer will be distributed by L and R of the MAIN MIX output; if you connect both channels of the RETURN input, L and R, each channel will go to its respective L or R output of the MAIN MIX output.
  • SEND: line level output with independent volume control, 6.3 mm jack connector. This output will receive signal from channels with the FX (DSP)/SEND selector pressed in. Connect this output to an external effects processor and the output signal from this will return to the mixer via the RETURN input.
  • PHONES : headphone output for monitoring, 6.3 mm stereo jack.
  • MAIN MIX: MAIN MIX bus line level outputs, 2 x RCA, 2 x 6.3 mm jack and 2 x XLR connectors.

Effects processor, player and other controls:

  • Information display. The first 2 digits on the left will show the programme selected in the FX (DSP) effects processor and the rest of the information is related to the player/recorder.
  • PROGRAM – FX (DSP): rotary control for effect selection. Turn the control until the display shows the desired effect and press the same control to apply it. Finally, adjust the amount of effect from the PARAMETER control and its volume with the FX (DSP) slider. This output will receive signal from channels that have the FX (DSP)/SEND selector unoppressed. The 16 available effects are as follows:

  • PARAMETER – FX (DSP): control to regulate the amount of effect to be applied.
  • HIGH: high pass filter with 12 kHz cut-off frequency.
  • LOW: low pass filter with 50 Hz cut-off frequency.
  • SEND VOL: volume control of the SEND output signal.
  • MUTE: button to mute the signal from the player to the final MAIN MIX.
  • FX (DSP): volume slider for the output of the built-in effects processor.
  • PLAYER: volume slider from the player to the MAIN MIX final mix.
  • MAIN MIX (L-R): volume sliders for the left (L) and right (R) channels of the MAIN MIX final mix.
  • RETURN VOL: volume control of the RETURN input.
  • PHONES VOL: volume control of the PHONES monitor output.
  • Left (L) and right (R) channel signal level indicators of the MAIN MIX output signal level (dB). An adequate signal level will cause the green indicators to light up, and the yellow indicators to light up in a timely manner. If the yellow indicators light up for an extended period of time, the output signal level should be reduced. The red indicators should not light up, if this happens you should reduce the output signal level to avoid damage to the equipment.
  • PHANTOM +48V: phantom power for the XLR connectors of the input channels. It must be activated when the microphone to be connected is a condenser microphone.
  • PHANTOM +48V: phantom power activation indicator light.
  • REC: button to start a recording or playback of recorded files. AUDIO RECORDING: with the REC mode selected press the rotary control to start recording and the counter on the display will start to increment indicating that recording has started. Press the rotary control to pause the recording or long press the REC button to end the recording. When a recording is finished, playback of the recorded files will start in pause mode. Control the playback of these recordings with the rotary control on the player:
    • turn anti-clockwise to skip to the previous recording.
    • turn clockwise to skip to the next recording.
    • press the control to start or pause the playback of the recordings.
  • MODE: a short press allows you to change the mode of the player.
  • Integrated player controls:
    • turn counterclockwise to skip to the previous song.
    • turn clockwise to skip to the next song.
    • press the control to start or pause playback.
  • USB port for playback of audio files from a USB device or cable connection to a PC. PC CONNECTION: by connecting a USB cable from this port to a PC, the PC will detect the mixer as an input and output device. That is, you can send audio to the PLAYER channel and receive the MAIN MIX audio on the PC as long as you have the PC mode selected on the player.

  1. AC power input.
  2. Equipment on/off switch.

CONNECTION

  • Before making any connections, make sure that all devices are switched off and disconnected from the power supply.
  • Check that all volume controls on each input and the MAIN MIX output are set to minimum.
  • Connect the desired equipment to the input channels.
  • If you want to use the player, select the desired mode and then adjust the volume.
  • Connect the MAIN MIX output to a line level input of a power amplifier.
  • Connect the equipment to the power supply. Switch on the equipment in this order: peripheral equipment, followed by the MIX-12PRO mixer and lastly the power amplifier (if necessary).
  • Adjust the gain of each channel by displaying the channel’s CLIP indicator.
  • Adjust the volume of each input channel with the volume sliders.
  • Adjust the FX (DSP)/SEND volume of each channel if necessary.
  • Adjust the volume of the FX effects (DSP) and/or the SEND output bus and RETURN input if necessary.
  • Adjust the output level of the MAIN MIX main mix bus with its volume control.

19” RACK INSTALLATION

  • To install this mixer in a 19” rack you will need to purchase the SM-8PRO 7U mounting brackets.
  • Perform the following steps for installation:

Remove the profiles on both sides.

Separate the chassis sides from the plastic parts.

Mount the chassis sides again.
