The HD Photo Trap with Solar Panel is a device that comes with a wide-angle lens and an infrared sensor. It is designed to observe game, secure objects, or indoor/outdoor areas. This device captures high-quality photos and videos with its image sensor and display objective. It also has a trigger function that starts recording when motion is detected. The photo trap comes with an installation kit, user manual, mounting belt, wall mount, and USB-C cable. It supports SD class 10 and higher cards and has a built-in lithium battery.

Product Usage Instructions

Before using the HD Photo Trap with Solar Panel, please read the user manual carefully. Follow the instructions below to set up and use the device:

First Consecration:

1. Release the handles on the left side of the photo trap to open the rear cover of the device.
2. Insert an SD card into the SD card slot (supports SD class 10 and higher cards).
3. Remove the battery cover and insert batteries (Alternatively,charge the device for at least 8 hours using a USB cable).
4. Switch the slider to the SETUP position.

Notice:

• Always switch the device off (switch in OFF position) when handling the batteries and SD card.
• The photo trap supports SD class 10 and higher cards.

Description of Prints:

The buttons on the device have the following functions:

• OFF/SETUP/ON: Access an overview of your saved videos and photos. Enter/return to the setup menu. Enter the current photo/video image capture mode.
• Moving up.
• Shift down.
• Shift when setting values in parameters. To change the photo/video mode when taking photos/videos manually in SETUP mode.
• In manual photo/video mode, take a photo/video. In SETUP mode confirmation. In the overview of saved videos and photos, stop and start the video.

The icons on the display indicate:

• Photo or video mode
• Photo resolution
• SD card status (inserted/missing)
• Displays the number of photos/length of recorded video.
• The device is powered by the built-in lithium battery. If the lithium battery capacity is less than 10%, the device starts to be powered by the inserted AA batteries.
• Notification that there are no AA batteries in the device.
• Date and time display

Transmitter Menu Items:

1. Mode Photo, Video, Photo+Video, select whether to take photos or videos when motion is detected. In Photo+Video mode, the camera first takes a set number of photos before recording video.
2. Photo resolution: Select the desired photo resolution. Higher resolution provides slightly better photo quality, but it means larger files that require more space on the memory card.
3. Burst shooting: Select the number of photos in the series, the number of photos will then be taken when motion is recorded.
4. Video resolution: Select the desired video resolution. Higher resolutions take higher quality videos, but result in larger files that require more space on the memory card. Videos are recorded in AVI format, which can be played back on most video devices.
5. Video length: Preset to 5 seconds, can be set to 3s – 10 minutes. Set the duration of video recording when the camera starts automatically.

Notice

After opening the back cover:

1. Insert SD card
2. Remove the battery cover
3. Insert batteries (Alternatively, charge the device for at least 8 hours using a USB cable)
4. Switch the slider to the “SETUP” position

DESCRIPTION OF THE ICONS ON THE DISPLAY

TRANSMITTER

OFF: In this mode, the device is completely switched off and you can connect/disconnect the memory card or change the batteries.
SETUP: In this mode, the device is switched on and you can record videos and take photos manually. You can also view the videos/photos you have already taken or change the settings of the device. In this mode, the PIR sensor is active, if the sensor is activated, the indicator light will turn on. However, the photo trap will not save the photo or video.
ON: When switched from SETUP mode to ON mode, the camera enters a low- power standby mode, the display turns off, and the button controls are disabled. The camera will only respond to PIR sensors. When the PIR sensor is activated, it will turn on and take photos or record video, then return to standby mode.

MENU ITEMS

1. Mode
   Photo, Video, Photo+Video, select whether to take photos or videos when motion is detected. In Photo+Video mode, the camera first takes a set number of photos before recording video.

6. In SETUP mode
   If you are recording a video manually, it will automatically stop recording after 29 minutes, or if the video exceeds 4 GB in size, or if the memory card becomes full.

7. In ON mode
   At night, the camera will work automatically according to the video length setting. Recording will stop when the battery is low.

8. Sound recording
   Videos can be recorded with or without sound.

9. Recording interval
   Preset for 1 minute, can be set from 5 seconds to 60 minutes. Select the amount of time the camera should wait before taking a picture/recording of the object that activated the PIR sensor. During the selected interval, the camera does not record any photos or videos. This prevents the memory card from filling up with unnecessary images.

10. Sensor sensitivity
    High: For indoors and low disturbance environments. Medium: For outdoor areas and environments with normal interference.
    Low: For environments with high levels of interference.

11. Target recording time
    Press the “OK” button and then select “On” to set the start and end time. Once the setup is complete, the photo trap will only work at the set time each day. After this time, the camera is in standby mode. For example, if the start time is set to 18:35 and the end time is set to 8:25, the camera will operate from 18:35 on the current day until 8:25 on the next day. Outside this time, the photo trap will not start and will not take any photos or videos.

12. Time-lapse recording
    Press “OK”, then select “On” to set the time interval and set the values H, Min, Sec. For example, if the process of plant development needs to be recorded, time-lapse mode can be used. The camera automatically takes pictures at the set time interval.

13. Language
    Select the desired menu language. The following languages are available: English, German, Czech, Polish, Slovak.

14. Overwrite files
    If you select yes, the oldest uploaded records will be overwritten by the new records if the card is full.

15. Time and date
    Press “OK” and select Time and date setting: set the time and date according to the current time.
    Press the left/right button to change the value, press “OK” to confirm the changes and move to the next number.
    Time formats: 12h/24h
    Date format: dd/mm/yyyy; mm/dd/yyyy

16. Photo stamp
    Turn on/off the date and time information on the photo.

17. Password
    After pressing On. button, the device will allow you to lock it with a password. The password is a four-digit number selected from 0-9. If you lose the password, press the MENU and move the mode switch from OFF to SETUP. The camera will unlock.

18. Acoustic signal
    The audible signalling of button movements in the menu can be switched on/off.

19. Formatting a memory card
    Choose to format the memory card in the photo trap, we recommend formatting the memory card in the computer for the first time and then formatting it again in the photo trap.

20. Serial number
    Press the “OK” button and then select “On” to set the camera serial number. You can use a combination of 4 digits. When using multiple cameras, this make it easier to identify the location when viewing photos.

21. Reset settings
    Select to restore the camera to its default settings. Please note that you need to reset the date and time.

22. Version
    Select to check the current firmware version number of the camera.

Remark:
In the playback mode of saved files, a long press of the “MENU” button takes you to the settings where you can delete a frame, erase all recordings, activate the diashow or write-protect.

Setting the field of view of the photo trap
The test mode (SETUP mode) is suitable for determining the best possible detection angle and range of the motion sensor. To do this, mount the camera at a height of approximately 1-2 m to a tree and set the camera in the desired direction. Slowly move from one side of the area to be monitored to the other, moving parallel to the camera. Try different angles and distances.

The indicator LED on the front of the camera lights up to indicate that you have been detected by the PIR sensor. This way you can test and adjust whether the photo trap is occupying the space you want. This mode is automatically activated if you select SETUP mode for the photo trap.

Photo trap in ON mode
In this mode, photos and videos are taken either by the motion sensor or at intervals according to the appropriate settings. It takes approximately 5 seconds before the camera automatically starts working and enters standby mode.

Night mode
During nighttime recording, infrared LEDs (940 nm) on the front of the photo trap provide the light needed to capture images. This allows night recording at distances of 3 to 20 m without overexposing the subject. Objects with high reflectivity can cause overexposure in this range (e.g. traffic signs). This mode takes black and white images.

Connecting to a computer
The photo trap can be connected to a computer using the included USB cable.

System requirements for connection:

1. Connect the photo trap to your computer using a USB cable.
2. The photo trap will automatically turn on in USB mode regardless of the mode switch setting.
3. The photo trap is displayed on the computer as another unit under the name “Removable storage device”.
4. Double-click the device to find “DCIM”.
5. Photos and videos are placed in subfolders of the “DCIM” folder.
6. You can copy or move photo and video files on your computer.

Alternatively, you can insert the memory card into the card reader on your computer.
Note: On Macs, the desktop displays the “Unknown” drive. Clicking on this drive automatically launches iPhoto.

Solar panel power supply
The photo trap has a built-in lithium battery, which is continuously recharged by a solar panel in sufficient sunlight. Subsequently, the photo trap is powered from this battery. When the capacity of the built-in battery drops below 10%, the photo trap switches to power from the inserted AA batteries. The lifetime of the photo trap on one set of batteries depends on the availability of sunlight and on the number of switches during the day. Therefore, it will be different if the photo trap is placed in a sunny location and the frequency of switching will be lower than if the photo trap is placed in the shade and triggered very frequently. Therefore, look for a location where the light intensity will be highest, this will ensure the highest possible intensity of charging from the solar panel.

PROBLEM-SOLVING

The photo trap will not turn on

• Charge the photo trap with a USB cable for at least 8 hours.
• Check that the battery capacity is not low or depleted. If so, replace them with new batteries.

The photo trap switches off automatically

• Check that the battery capacity is not low or discharged. If so, charge the camera for at least 8 hours or replace the batteries with new ones.

SD card error

• Make sure you are using a Class 10 SD card or higher.
• Format the SD card the first time you use it. Problem with video playback on computer (video tearing, inability to play, …)
• Check that the computer system requirements are met.
• Check whether the AVI video clip can be played back on your computer.

The picture is not clear

• Make sure to remove the protective films from the diodes and lens before use.
• Make sure the lens is not dirty.

The camera does not take pictures or record videos

• Check that the memory card is not full.
• The memory card is not formatted correctly. Reformat the SD card or use a new card.

The camera cannot be switched off

• When such a malfunction occurs, remove all batteries and reset the camera.
