OWC H1244 Mercury Pro LTO
The OWC Mercury Pro LTO is a Thunderbolt 3 LTO archival storage solution that provides a reliable and secure backup for your data. It comes with ATTO ExpressSAS HBA drivers that enable a fast and efficient data transfer between your computer and the LTO tape drive. Additionally, it requires third-party software applications like OWC ArGest Backup to operate.
Getting Started – Windows
To use the OWC Mercury Pro LTO system, follow the steps below:
- Download the Mercury Pro LTO Drivers and Software from https://download.owc.com/lto/windows.
- Connect the Mercury Pro LTO to the Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port on your computer and power it on.
- Log in to the Windows system as an Administrator user (NOT as an Administrator).
- Open the Device Manager via the Start Run or Search menu.
- Extract the software files downloaded in step 1 above.
- Launch the ATTO ExpressSAS installer followed by the ATTO Config Tool.
- Install the ATTO ExpressSAS H1244 or ATTO ExpressSAS H1244GT Host Adapter.
- Reboot your computer to ensure that the drive is properly loaded.
- Relaunch the Device Manager and look at the Other Devices section for the unrecognized LTO tape drive.
- Right-click the tape drive line and select the Update Drivers menu option.
- Select the Browse my computer for drivers option.
- Select the Let me pick from a list … option.
- Choose the Tape Drives option from the list and click Next.
- If Show Compatible Hardware is checked, uncheck it. Scroll the left-hand list to LTO. Select the LTO Tape Drive entry presented and click Next.
- If you are warned about the driver not working, ignore the warning and select Continue. The driver will be properly installed.
- Exit the properties dialog back to the main Device Manager window. The unrecognized drive should now be listed in the Tape Drive section.
- You are now ready to use the tape drive with ArGest Backup or any other backup application that you may wish to use.

Mercury Pro LTO Drivers and Software
- ATTO SAS HBA Drivers – These drivers are required for your LTO unit to be used with your computer.
- LTFS Support and Diagnostic Tools – The LTFS tools are required by some third-party software applications like OWC ArGest Backup. Please check your software requirements to see if this tool is needed. The Diagnostic Tools are used to check the health of your LTO unit.
Required ATTO ExpressSAS HBA Drivers
- Connect the Mercury Pro LTO to the Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port on the systems system and power it on. Then login to the Windows system as an Administrator user (NOT as Administrator).
- Begin the process by opening the “Device Manager” via the Start → Run or Search menu
- Once you have extracted the software files downloaded above, launch the ATTO ExpressSAS installer followed by the ATTO Config Tool.
- Once installed, the ATTO ExpressSAS H1244 or ATTO ExpressSAS H1244GT Host Adapter.
- Windows may or may not prompt you to reboot. To ensure that the drive is properly loaded, please reboot the system. If it doesn’t relaunch automatically, relaunch the “Device Manager” and look at the “Other Devices” section for the unrecognized LTO tape drive.
- Right-click the tape drive line and select the “Update Drivers” menu option. Select the “Browse my computer for drivers” option.
- Select the “Let me pick from a list …” option.
- Choose the “Tape Drives” option from the list and click Next.
- If Show Compatible Hardware is checked, uncheck it. Scroll the left hand list to “LTO”.
- Select the “LTO Tape Drive” entry presented and click Next. If you are warned about the driver not working, ignore the warning and select Continue.
