INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION OF M.2 DRIVE

For reference, the steps below show how to install an NVMe M.2 drive with a 2280, 2260, 2242, or 2230 form factor. Note that each supported form factor has a post location silkscreened on the inside of the ShuttleOne, which you can see once the bottom plate is removed. The process described below is otherwise the same for each drive type. Please review all steps before attempting the installation. If you still have questions after reviewing them, please contact our Support Team (see Section 3) for assistance.

  1. Remove the ShuttleOne from the retail packaging and set it on a static-free work surface.
    Installation

  2. Flip the device over and remove the four Phillips screws that hold the bottom cover in place. A Phillips 00 driver is required (not included).
    Installation

  3. Remove the cover and set it aside. If you are going to install a 2280 form factor M.2 drive, all you need to do is remove the drive post screw (3B). By default, the screw and drive post should be installed on the 2280 form factor.
    Installation

  4. If you plan to install one of the other supported form factors, the drive post will also need to be removed so that it can be re-affixed at the correct location. To move the drive post, remove the screw (4A), lift up the drive post, and place onto the desired form factor location (4B). The flatter side of the drive post will rest over the desired form factor location.
    Installation

  5. Align the connector on your M.2 drive with the connector on the ShuttleOne, then carefully insert the drive until it is fully seated. Minimal force is required. If the drive does not seat, do not apply more force. Remove the drive, re-align it, and try again. Afterward the drive will rest at an angle. This is expected.
    Installation

  6. Hold the drive against its post, then use the drive post screw to affix the drive in place.
    Installation

  7. Re-seat the cover removed in Step 3A so that it sits flush on the chassis, then re-affix the four screws that were also removed in that step.
    Installation

  8. Once completed, the OWC U.2 ShuttleOne is now ready for installation in the host. Please consult the manuals for the following OWC products that are compatible with the ShuttleOne: ThunderBay Flex 8, Helios 3S with U.2 Interchange system, or Mercury Pro U.2 Dual enclosure. If you’re using a PC or other enclosure please refer to the manufacturer instructions for installing 2.5 inch U.2 drives for further assistance.
