mintie IcoRoom Hepa Air Filtration System

Product Information: IcoRoom HEPA Air Filtration System

The IcoRoom is a HEPA air filtration system designed for medical-grade air filtration. It has a net weight of 140 lbs (with filters) and its dimensions are 26x20x46 inches. The unit has variable speed control and can operate at speeds ranging from 200 to 1600 CFM. The filtration system consists of 3-4 standard aluminum stages with closed-end rivets and a 99.99% HEPA filter that is medical-grade. The HEPA filter is sized at 24x18x12 inches, and there is also a primary filter – MERV 11 pleated filter. The  unit requires a 115 VAC/60 Hz circuit and has a thermal overload protection system. The pressure gauge is included, and the unit  comes with an intake manifold with a 10-inch diameter ring for flex  duct connections, a hose clamp, and a 10-inch diameter, 3-foot long flexible duct.

The IcoRoom HEPA Filtration System conforms to UL STD 507 and is certified to CAN/CSA STD C22.2 NO. 113-M1984.

Product Usage Instructions

Unpacking: Before using the unit, carefully check it for damage. Remove the exhaust cover grill and check the HEPA filter to ensure it is seated flat against the internal flange and the filter clamps are tight.

Installing the Intake Manifold: Slip the intake manifold into the channels on the front of the machine. The manifold provides a 10-inch diameter flex hose connection and holds the primary pleated filter in place.

Operating UV Germicidal Lights (UVGI): The machine has UVGI lights installed in the compartment facing the HEPA filter. The air passing by the UVGI lights is sterilized, and bio-contaminants captured on the HEPA are killed or deactivated. Turn on the UVGI lights before the fan starts to run and turn them off after the air blower stops to complete the sterilization of the HEPA filter. The proper operation of the UVGI lights is monitored by LAMP and BALLAST indicating LEDs that turn on when the UVGI lights are on.

Operating the HEPA Filtration System: Connect the HEPA filtration system to IcoRoom with a short 10-inch diameter flex duct to create negative pressure in the isolation room. The machine can also provide air purification as a self-standing unit if desired.

The IcoRoom HEPA Filtration System purifies the air of airborne contaminants which could be biological, chemical or particulates. Connected to IcoRoom isolation containment, it creates small negative pressure in IcoRoom, providing isolation between operating room and the outside envi-ronment. All the air pulled from the IcoRoom is purified through 99.99% HEPA and by high inten-sity UVGI light before it is exhausted into the general area. Carbon filters can also be added to the machine to remove chemical odors.

INSTRUCTIONS

Unpacking:
Carefully check the unit for damage. Remove the exhaust cover grill and check the HEPA filter. It should be seated flat against the internal flange and the filter clamps should be tight.
The Intake Manifold provides 10” diameter flex hose connection and holds the primary pleated filter in place. The manifold is slipped in to the channels on the front of the machine.

Operation:
When operating the filtration machine connected to the IcoRoom, the objective is to maintain negative pressure inside the IcoRoom in reference to ambient pressure in hallways. By increasing fan speed, the pressure inside the IcoRoom becomes less than the pressure in the hallway. The plastic walls of the IcoRoom will be bowed in, indicating negative pressure. As the doors to the hallway or the operating room open, the pressure will temporarily change and return to negative when the doors close. The higher the speed, the faster the room will return to negative pressure. As the HEPA filter loads with dust, the speed will have to be increased to reach the same airflow and to maintain the negative pressure inside the IcoRoom.
The ICOROOM HEPA Filtration system must always operate with the HEPA filter in place to prevent contamination of the area and electrical overload of the motor.

Operating UV Germicidal Lights (UVGI)
The machine has UVGI lights installed in the compartment facing the HEPA filter. The air passing by the UVGI lights is sterilized and the bio- contaminants captured on the HEPA are killed or deactivated.
The UVGI lights should be turned on before the fan starts to run and can stay on after the air blower is stopped to complete the sterilization of the HEPA filter. The proper operation of the UVGI lights is monitored by LAMP and BALLAST indicating LEDs which turn on when the UVGI lights are on.

Operating HEPA Filtration System:
The HEPA filtration system should be connected to IcoRoom with a short 10” diameter flex duct to create a negative pressure in the isolation room. The machine can also provide air purification as self standing unit if desired.
The start and speed of the machine is controlled by the toggle switch HIGH / SPEED CONTROL and the variable SPEED CONTROLLER knob.
To start the machine in the highest speed, place the toggle switch in HIGH position. To start the machine at reduced speed, place the toggle switch in SPEED CONTROL position and turn the knob clockwise from OFF to start the blower. The machine starts at HIGH SPEED and the speed is reduced by turning the knob clockwise to desired air flow.
The machine can be switched between the desired controlled speed setting and the highest speed at any time by toggle switch being moved between SPEED CONTROL and HIGH. The toggle switch overrides the SPEED CONTROL-LER knob setting and runs the blower at its highest speed. This is also used as a quick check of HEPA filter loading and required filter change (see Maintenance).

Maintenance

Mechanical and Electrical –
The motor and blower do not require any maintenance when the machine is operated with the HEPA filter in place.
The UVGI lights should last over 15,000 hours of operation. There are two high intensity lights UVGI lights and two ballasts. The LED indicating lamps turning OFF will indicate a light tube or ballast failure. The UVGI tubes and ballasts can be accessed by removing the HEPA filter. Do not look directly into the UVGI lamps while they are operatE, this could damage your eyesight.

Filter Replacement –
When replacing the HEPA filter, proper care should be taken to wear a respirator in combination with the necessary PPE. The filter should be disposed of in an appropriate manner based on the contaminants it was exposed to. The HEPA filter element is held in place by metal tabs and can be accessed from the top of the unit. To remove the element, remove the metal grate, unscrew the nuts on the tabs and remove the tabs. Lay the machine down on the handle and slide the ele-ment out. Slide the new filter element into place with the gasket side of the HEPA filter facing the blower unit. Make sure that the HEPA filter is seated well against the internal flange. Place the machine back in the upright position, re-place the filter tabs and nuts and tighten to compress the gasket by 1/8”. Do not over tighten the bolts as this may crack the gasket. When replacing the HEPA filter, the primary filter should also be replaced.
The primary filter is located behind the Intake Manifold and should be checked or replaced monthly. To access the fil-ter, remove the manifold and install a new pleated filter. Observe the air flow arrow on the filter.
The HEPA filter efficiency of 99.99% will not degrade when the filter is loaded with dust, but the air flow will be re-duced. The HEPA filter should be replaced when:

  • The air flow from the machine is not sufficient to maintain the desired negative pressure in ICOROOM enclosure.
  • The machine must run in high speed all the time to maintain the ICOROOM negative pressure, which causes excessive noise.
  • HEPA filter is more than 80% loaded. (See note below)

NOTE: The loading of the filter can be checked by switching the machine to HIGH speed after replacing the primary filter and reading the pressure gauge “WC”. With all filters clean, the gauge should indicate 1.2” to 1.3” WC. A reading of 2.6” WC indicates the filter is 80% plugged and should be replaced.
