Product description

The reusable PersonalFit PLUS breast shield is compatible with the reusable PersonalFit PLUS pump sets for Symphony® , as well as with the Medela breast pumps Swing Maxi, Swing, Freestyle and Harmony. PersonalFit PLUS breast shields are available in different sizes (see product variants).
Refer to the pump/pump set instructions for use for information on operating the pump and pump set.
Intended purpose
The breast shield is intended to be connected to a breast pump via a connector assembly in order to apply vacuum at the breast and channelling the breast milk to a collection container e.g. bottle.

Important safety information

CAUTION

  • The breast shield is a personal care item intended for use by a single user only. It should not be shared between mothers.
  • Use Medela original accessories only.
  • Inspect before each use. Replace mouldy, damaged or worn parts.
  • Never leave packaging and components unattended. Keep them out of reach of children.
  • Pressing breast shields too firmly onto the breasts may affect the milk flow.
  • If problems or pain occur, consult a lactation consultant or breastfeeding specialist.

Cleaning and hygiene

  • Before using the breast shield for the first time, you must clean it thoroughly. Perform both steps “After each use” then “Once per day”.
  • Clean the breast shield immediately after use to avoid drying up of milk residues and to prevent growth of bacteria.
  • Only use drinking-quality water for cleaning.
  • Take care not to damage parts when using a brush.
  • Do not use abrasive washing-up liquids/detergents when cleaning the breast pump, pump components or pump set parts.

Prior to first use / After each use

  • Rinse the breast shield with cold, clear water (approx. 20 °C).
  • Clean with plenty of warm, soapy water (approx. 30 °C). Use a commercially available washing-up liquid, preferably without artificial fragrances and colouring (pH neutral).
  • Rinse with cold, clear water (approx. 20 °C).
  • As an alternative to manual cleaning, you can also clean the breast shield in the dishwasher.
Place it on the top rack or in the cutlery section. Use a commercially available dishwashing detergent.

Prior to first use / Once per day

  • Cover the breast shield with water and boil at least 5 minutes.

Drying / Storage

  • Dry with a clean cloth or allow to air dry completely on a clean cloth.
  • Put the breast shield in a clean storage bag or clean environment. Do not store in airtight container/bag. It is important that all residual moisture dries completely.

Assembling and usage

  • For information about how to use the breast shield and breast pump, see the instructions for use of the breast pump/pump set.

Choosing your PersonalFit PLUS breast shield size
Your breast shield size could change over the duration of your pumping experience. At all times during this period, the breast shield must fit correctly.
A correctly fitting breast shield helps to prevent compression of the milk ducts during pumping, supports the optimal emptying of the breast and helps to maximize the milk output.
In a correctly fitting breast shield the nipple is centered and moves freely. See the first picture below:
