ODYON pro HS4 4 Channel Handheld Transmitter-fig3

Model: ODYON pro HS1 / HS2 / HS4
Thank you for purchasing this handheld radio transmitter from the ODYON pro series. This handheld transmitter has been developed for excellent functionality and offers perfect performance as well as solution possibilities. The essential design guarantees maximum ergonomic comfort and clear functional operability. With the ODYON pro handheld transmitter, up to 4 functions of one or more receivers can be switched. Ranges of several hundred metres are achieved, depending on the environment and constellation of the radio system. The hand-held transmitter enables the specific selection (addressing) of different receivers of the ODYON pro series with only one hand-held device. Depending on the type of hand-held transmitter, 1 to 4 push-button signals can be transmitted. The triggered functions of the radio commands are determined by the selection of the receiver and its wiring. One transmitter can control several receivers simultaneously. The handheld transmitters are coded at the factory with a unique serial number and can be taught to each ODYON pro receiver.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON RADIO OPERATION

The radio transmission is realised on a non-exclusive transmission path, which is why interference cannot be ruled out. Further interference can be caused by switching operations, electric motors or defective electrical appliances. The range in buildings can deviate greatly from that in the free field. Apart from the transmitting power and the receiving characteristics of the receiver, environmental influences such as air humidity play an important role in addition to structural conditions on site. The ODYON handheld transmitters are designed for ranges of several hundred meters under optimal conditions. However, the maximum range is only achieved when there is visual contact with the receiver and no high-frequency interference.
Possible causes for reduced range are:

  • Buildings of any kind or vegetation affect the range.
  • The distance of the antenna to the body, as well as to other conductive surfaces or objects.
  • The “background noise” in non-rural areas can already be relatively high, reducing the signal-to-noise ratio and thus the range.
  • Similarly, it is not impossible that devices with similar operating frequencies may be operating in the neighbour hood, making the receiver seemingly less sensitive.
  • If the receiver is located in the vicinity of poorly shielded devices that produce interference radiation (e.g. PCs), the range may also be severely reduced.

COMMISSIONING AND OPERATION

The hand-held transmitter is delivered ready for use with the battery inserted. The hand-held transmitter is put into operation by teaching it to a suitable ODYON pro receiver (see description of ODYON pro receiver). The function triggered by this depends on the receiver and its wiring. A hand-held transmitter can control several receivers with different wiring at the same time.

  • Reception control

    • If a button for channel 1-4 is pressed on the hand-held transmitter, the control LED briefly lights up green. The receiver sends back a confirmation and the control LED flashes red/green briefly for confirmation.
    • If the control LED does not flash red/green, the corresponding button is either not tuned in to a receiver or the hand-held transmitter is out of range of the receiver.
  • Automatic key lock
The hand-held transmitter is equipped with an automatic key lock to prevent unintentional actuation of a function key (4), e.g. if the hand-held transmitter is in a pocket.

  • Activating the automatic key lock
Press and hold the standby button (3) for approx. 5 seconds until the control LED (2) flashes green.

  • Deactivating the automatic key lock

    • Press and hold the standby button for approx. 5 seconds until the control LED flashes red.
    • If the automatic key lock is activated, the hand-held transmitter must be brought out of sleep mode by briefly pressing the standby key and then allows the taught-in functions by pressing the key. If no further button is pressed within 5 seconds, the hand-held transmitter returns to sleep mode.
    • When the key lock is deactivated, one of the function keys can be pressed directly at any time and the radio signal is transmitted.
  • Coding

    • The hand-held transmitter is coded at the factory with a permanently assigned and unique serial number for identification. For security reasons, this cannot be changed and allows many combinations of the radio system. The serial number is transmitted in encrypted form in the radio protocol and therefore cannot be copied. No further settings need to be made on the hand-held transmitter for commissioning.
    • To train a hand-held transmitter on a compatible ODYON receiver, the relay button to be selected must be pressed on the receiver (see description of ODYON receiver) and then the desired button on the hand-held transmitter. After the hand-held transmitter has been successfully tuned in, the tuned-in receiver should now switch when a suitable radio signal is received.
  • Changing the battery
The battery life depends on the use of the hand-held transmitter. If the range decreases considerably or it is no longer possible to carry out any functions, the battery must be replaced. If the control LED does NOT light up, this also indicates a weak or empty battery. To change the battery (Fig. 2), open the battery compartment on the back (e.g. with a coin) by turning the battery compartment cover to the left in the direction of the arrow “OPEN” by about 90°. Remove the old battery and insert a new CR2477 lithium battery into the battery compartment according to the polarity markings (+ to the top). Close the battery compartment by placing the battery compartment cover (triangle on triangle) and turn it to the right into the lock.
