JBL GSF3 Landscape Speakers
Product Information: GSF3 & GSF6 Landscape Speakers
The GSF3 & GSF6 Landscape Speakers are outdoor speakers that can be installed in gardens, patios, or any outdoor setting. These speakers come with a rotary tap selector switch located at the bottom of the speaker enclosure that allows for easy adjustment of the speaker’s wattage. The speakers come with two base options, the ground-stake base and the L-bracket base. The ground-stake base is ideal for installations where the speaker needs to be inserted into the ground, while the L-bracket base is suitable for installations where the speaker needs to be mounted on a wall or any flat surface. The speakers have an ingress protection rating that makes them resistant to dust, dirt, and water splashes.
Product Usage Instructions
Wire Connection: Connect the cable wires to the speakers as follows: black wire to the negative (-) terminal and red wire to the positive (+) terminal.
- CABLE– The GSF speakers have a captive 1-meter long cable for bare-wire connection via an external installer-provided weather-proof junction box.
- Polarity — The red wire is + (positive) and the black wire is – (negative).
- Wire Gauge – The wire gauge is 18 AWG (1 mm2).
- Wire Jacket – The wire jacket is 5 mm (+0/-05.mm) in diameter.
- Connecting — Use proper professional wire nuts or other safe connectors that are appropriate for the installation conditions and that are sized properly for wire gauge(s) and number of wires to be connected together in the connector.
- Routing – When using the ground-stake or L-bracket base, the cable can be routed through the base.
Setting Tap Selector Switch: Use the rotary tap selector switch to select the desired wattage for your speaker. The switch is located at the bottom of the speaker enclosure.
-
Rotate bottom-panel TAP SELECTOR SWITCH to select between:
-
GSF3:
8Ω (ie, low-impedance / direct)
15W or 7.5W for either 70V or 100V distributed speaker system
3.75W for 70V distributed speaker system only -
GSF6:
8Ω (i.e., low-impedance / direct)
30W or 15W for either 70V or 100V distributed speaker system
7.5W for 70V distributed speaker system only
-
Installing Ground-Stake Base or L-Bracket Base to Loudspeaker: Choose the base option that is suitable for your installation. If you choose to use the ground-stake base, ensure that you do not try to re-aim the speaker horizontally without following the instructions provided. If you choose to use the L-bracket base, ensure that you do not try to rotate the speaker with set screws tightened without following the instructions provided.
-
The speaker comes with both a GROUND-STAKE BASE and an L-BRACKET BASE. Use whichever one applies to the installation requirements of the project.
-
At the bottom of the LOUDSPEAKER there is a SOCKET. Three-head set screws come with the speaker (packaged in a separate pouch) for attaching the chosen base into the SOCKET.
- Screw Dimensions — GSF3: M4 x 0.7 – 5mm, with 3 mm hex drive
-
Use the included 3 mm hex wrench to tighten the 3 set screws to hold the chosen base securely.
-
For GROUND-STAKE BASE, press base into the ground.
CAUTION WHEN RE- AIMING SPEAKER:
When ground-stake is utilized, re-aiming speaker horizontally requires either: a) completely pulling stake from ground and re-pressing back into ground at new aiming angle, or b) loosening 3 set screws, re-aiming speaker, and re- tightening set screws. Trying to rotate speaker with stake in ground and set screws tightened could result in damage or breakage. -
For L-BRACKET BASE, securely attached base to either horizontal surface (such as decking or railing) or vertical surface (such as the side of a building or post). Use the proper attachment hardware for the material and characteristics of what it’s being attached to.
Aiming Loudspeaker: Use the hinge bolt and 4 mm hex key to aim the
speaker at a slight downward angle.
CAUTION WHEN ROTATING ON L-BRACKET:
When L-bracket is utilized, rotating speaker on L-bracket requires loosening 3
set screws, rotating speaker, and re-tightening set screws. Trying to rotate
speaker with set screws tightened could result in damage or breakage.
-
Loosen HINGE BOLT by using included 4 mm hex key. Aim loudspeaker, and then retighten.
-
Aiming Speaker at Downward Angle Provides Best Drainage – The greatest water drainage and reliability can be achieved by aiming the speaker at a slight downward aiming angle.
-
Maximum Upward Aiming Angle of 30° — For when aimed slightly upward, there is a drain hole at the bottom of the speaker that helps to drain water from the front of the speaker’s driver at aiming angles up to a maximum 30°. At upward aiming angles greater than 30°, water can pool on the driver, potentially causing damage.
Ingress Protection Rating: Ensure that the speaker is not submerged in water, and steps are taken to prevent any immersion situation
- IP66 — The GSF speakers are rated IP66 per IEC529 (highly protected against ingress from dust and water). However, the speaker is not rated for submersion in water, so steps must be taken to ensure that no immersion situation occurs.
Safety-Cable Attachment Point: Use the M6 safety-cable attachment point
to attach the ring-lug safety cable to the speaker. The threaded size is 6 mm
x 12 mm.
If you need further assistance or have any questions, contact the Harman
Professional Headquarters or visit their website for customer service and
technical support information.
- Attach installer-supplied secondary safety cable (ring lug end recommended) to M6 SAFETY CABLE ATTACHMENT INSERT POINT using installer-supplied M6 x 12 mm or shorter (12 mm is max depth of the threaded insert – ensure a minimum of 4 threads of engagement) bolt through the ring lug at end of safety cable. Attach other end of cable (with appropriate end-type and attachment hardware for the building structure) to a separate attachment location on building structure (not the same spot as used for attaching the WALL BRACKET).
CAUTION : Installation must be do ne by qualified persons using safe
installation standards.
The installer is responsible for proper selection and use of mounting hardware
and processes to install the speakers in a safe manner.
