SPECIFIC INFORMATION
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Selection of the crampons
The product is intended for use to protect against the risk of slipping in the
practice of mountaineering on snow, ice and mixed terrain.
Before each use, check the type of boots on which the crampon will be mounted
(with automatic/semi-automatic fastening). Depending on the needs, you will
select the crampons with the most suitable characteristics (table A).
Note:
-
The soles of the boots must be rigid or semi-rigid.
-
The sizes are purely illustrative and may vary from one boot model to another.
-
For transportation use a case (fig.1).
-
To avoid the risk of snow accumulation under the crampons, always use your crampons with Antibotts.
Fastening the crampons on the boots
Front binding adjustment
The fastener in figure 2a anticipates the use of boots with automatic
attachment. The fastener in fig.2b is for boots without automatic attachment or
on which automatic attachment does not fit correctly.
The front edge of the sole must align with the corresponding edge of the crampon as closely as possible (fig.3).
In order to achieve this, the selected type of fastener must be inserted in the best position (3 positions for each side of the front binding). For assembly, see figures 2a and 2b.
Length adjustment
On the centre shaft there is a double row of numbered holes. You can select
the most suitable position by rotating the adjustment spring slightly and
choosing the even or odd numbers (fig.4).
Adjust the length of the crampon, aligning it with the length of the boot so that the rear tips of the heel do not protrude from the profile created by the sole of the heel, but that they follow the same form or stay slightly inside it. Once adjustment has been completed, the crampon should fit the boot reasonably well without the closing system fastened (fig.5). Fastening and adjustment of the tail to the boot for Automatic and Semi-automatic configuration
The crampon will be firmly attached to the boot thanks to the tail (rear
fastener with an adjustable precision lever).
The height of the precision lever can be adjusted to 3 positions. In order to
configure it, the tape sling must be loosened, the orange safety plate must be
lifted and at that point the desired position can be selected (fig.6).
The fastener itself also has two possible adjustments in the respective holes located beside the heel (fig.7).
If the overall adjustment is carried out correctly, the closing of the tail will require some effort (fig.8).
For the Automatic method, pass the fastening tape sling around the ankle as
illustrated in fig.9a.
For the Semi-automatic method, pass the fastening tape sling around the
plastic lacing of the front fastener as illustrated in fig.9b.
Fasten energetically, passing the tape through the double buckle. Adjust the length of the tape sling so that no less than 8 cm of tape remain after the double buckle (fig.10).
Final check for all configurations
Before using the crampons, the user should carry out a fitting check in a safe
place to ensure that the crampons fit well on the boots for the intended use:
the crampon must not move when forced in different directions. Warning: a
poorly adjusted crampon can result in crampon loss.
Sharpening
Sharpen the points with a file as illustrated in fig.11. Do not use a grinder
which, heating the material, risks modifying its mechanical properties.
REVISION
The safety of users depends upon the continued efficiency and durability of the
equipment. In addition to the normal inspection required before, during and
after each use, this product must be inspected by a skilled person every 12
months, starting from date the product is first used; this date and the
subsequent checks must be recorded on the product’s life sheet: keep this
literature for inspection and reference for the life of the device. Check the
legibility of the product’s markings.
In case of one of the following defects are present, the product should be
withdrawn from service immediately:
- point shorter than 2 cm
- presence of cracks on the plastic or metal parts, particularly on the horizontal structures level
- permanent deformation of a metallic part
- unauthorised modification to the product (welding, drilling, etc.)
- deep corrosion that seriously alters the surface state of the metal (which does not disappear after a light rubbing with emery paper)
- presence of cuts or burns on the lacing systems, failure to lock of the fastening systems
- front point worn down to the first tooth
- breakage of an Antibott connection or serious cut.
Any product or component showing any defect or wear, or if in doubt, should be withdrawn from service immediately. Each product in the safety system can be damaged during a fall and must be always inspected before use it again. Do not continue to use a product after a major fall because a damage may have occurred, even no external signs are visible.
LIFETIME
- Metal parts: The lifetime of the product is unlimited.
- Textile parts: The lifetime of the product is 10 years from the date the product is first used and (taking storage into consideration) in any case cannot exceed the end of the twelfth year from manufacturing (i.e. manufacture year 2021, lifetime until end of 2033, or 10 year from the date of first use, whichever comes first).
Metal parts / Textile parts: The lifetime is understood to be in the
absence of causes which would place the product out of order with the
condition that periodic inspections are carried out at least once every 12
months starting from the date the product is first used and the results are
recorded on the life sheet of the product.
The following factors can reduce the lifetime of the product: intense use,
damage to components of the product, contact with chemical substances, high
temperatures, tears and abrasions, violent impacts, failure to maintain as
recommended. If a product is suspected to be no longer safe and reliable,
replace the product or contact C.A.M.P. or the distributor before continuing
use.
TRANSPORTATION
Protect the product from risks such as those detailed above. To facilitate
transportation and to take up less space in a backpack the heel slide can be
separated from the front platform, remembering the position in order not to
lose the crampon adjustment.
