Moonboon Motor User Manual

The Moonboon Motor is a product that can be used for babies weighing between 4 kg/9 lbs and 20 kg/44 lbs. Read the user manual carefully before using the product. As soon as the child in the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle is able to sit or kneel, pull himself or herself up, turn over, or crawl out, stop using the product.

What’s Included

  • 1 Moonboon Motor
  • 1 24V power supply and 10 feet/3 meters of cord
  • 2 carabiners with plastic parts

Assembly
Attach the plastic parts mounted on the carabiners to prevent metal against metal in your set-up. The carabiners must be put on from the side, laying flat against the Motor. The narrow end of the carabiners should point towards the Motor. Lock your carabiners once they are fitted correctly by gently securing the safety lock.

Mounting

  1. Prepare your chosen mounting method; Tripod Stand 2.0, Door Frame Clamp, or Mounting Kit.
  2. Attach the carabiners as described above.
  3. Use the upper carabiner for hanging the Motor. Feed the power cable into the small hole at the top of the Motor. Make sure that the power cable does not trail down the Motor, Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle.
  4. Hang the spring and then your choice of Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock or Cradle in the carabiner under the Motor. Check that the two carabiners open and close properly. Once the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock or Cradle is mounted, the nylon string coming out of the bottom of the Motor is to be wound around the fabric at the top of the Baby Hammock/Twin Baby Hammock/Cradle. Do this by pulling the string down, winding it around the fabric, and fastening the S-hook around the string so that it is fixed in place. It is important that the string is securely fastened before you let go of it.

What is included

  • 1 Moonboon Motor
  • 1 24V power supply and 10 feet / 3 meters of cord
  • 2 carabiners with plastic parts

Assembly
Your carabiners already come with plastic parts mounted on them. The plastic parts prevent metal against metal in your set-up. Before hanging the motor, you need to attach the carabiners to the Moonboon Motor.

The carabiners must be put on from the side, laying flat against the Motor otherwise, they can not be rotated properly into place. The narrow end of the carabiners should point towards the Motor, see picture 4.

It is important that you lock your carabiners once they are fitted correctly. This is done by gently securing the safety lock.

Mounting
  1. First, you must prepare your chosen mounting method; Tripod Stand 2.0, Door Frame Clamp, or Mounting Kit. If you hang your Moonboon Motor from a ceiling hook and strap or chain, you must carefully read the section on WEIGHT.

  2. Attach the carabiners as described on page 5.

  3. Now use the upper carabiner for hanging the Motor. Feed the power cable into the small hole at the top of the Motor. The power cord is 10 feet / 3 meters long, so you need to place your set-up near a power outlet. Make sure that the power cable does not trail down the Motor, Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock or Cradle, but rather is kept away from them.

  4. Now hang the spring and then your choice of Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle in the carabiner under the Motor. Check that the two carabiners open and close properly.

  5. Once the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle is mounted, the nylon string coming out of the bottom of the Motor is to be wound around the fabric at the top of the Baby Hammock/Twin Baby Hammock/ Cradle. Do this by pulling the string down, winding it around the fabric, and fastening the S-hook around the string so that it is fixed in place. See the illustration below.
It is important that the string is securely fastened before you let go of it.

  6. Once the Moonboon Motor and the nylon string are in place, you may turn the power on. Read the sections on HEIGHT and WEIGHT before using the Motor.

Note:

  • If the Moonboon Motor is suspended from the ceiling, it is important to use a stainless steel hook without coating. Similar precautions must be applied if you use a metal chain.

  • The nylon string is to be fastened as close to the center of the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle as possible while still leaving a distance between the motor wire and the Spring. Make sure to prevent the wire from touching and wearing out the fabric covering the spring.

Height

It is essential that Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle does not touch the floor during operation. Before using your product, perform two tests to ensure that it does not touch the floor.

First test: Without a child
Mount the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle as instructed and manually stretch the spring as much as you can. Pull on the spring until you feel the safety strap (the nylon strap inside the spring) preventing any further expansion. When the spring is fully extended, space must remain between the bottom of the Baby Hammock, the Twin Baby Hammock or Cradle, and the floor.

Second test: With the child
Now place the child in the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle and repeat the test described above: Stretch out the spring until you feel the safety strap keeping it from stretching further.

Here, too, space must remain between the bottom of the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock or Cradle, and the floor.

Please note

  • Use of a Moonboon Motor and Baby Hammock mounted in a Door Frame Clamp requires a minimum of 86 inches / 220 cm between the door frame and the floor.
  • Follow these instructions and perform the tests regularly as your child grows and becomes heavier. That is how you ensure that the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle never touches the floor.
Weight

The Moonboon Motor works by keeping the spring in constant motion. Therefore, the weight of your
the child is a key factor in the functioning of the motor.

  • Baby Hammock
The Moonboon Motor may be used for babies weighing between 4 kg / 9 lbs and 20 kg / 44 lbs when used with the Baby Hammock. If you are using a Baby Hammock from a different supplier, you may not be able to use the Motor until your baby weighs 6 kg /13 lbs. This is due to the differences among baby hammocks in terms of the stiffness of the Spring.
if you hang the Moonboon Motor in a strap or chain from a ceiling hook (e.g. Moonboon’s Mounting Kit), your baby’s weight will determine how long the strap/chain can be. If the following recommendations are not followed, there is a risk that the Motor will not function properly, in which case it will turn itself off.

  • Baby weighs less than 8 kg / 17.6 lbs
If the child weighs less than 8 kg / 17.6 lbs, the strap/chain between the motor and the ceiling must not be longer than 15 cm / 6 inches.

  • The baby weighs more than 8 kg / 17.6 lbs
If the baby weighs more than 8 kg / 17.6 lbs, there must be no more than 50 cm / 20 inches of strap/chain between the motor and the ceiling.

Please note

Insufficient weight in the   Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle will cause the   Moonboon Motor to malfunction or turn off.

Using the Moonboon Motor

Once you have mounted the Moonboon Motor and connected the power cable, you may begin using it. Review the SAFETY CHECKLIST and en- sure that all instructions have been followed before starting the Moon- boon Motor for the first time.

You may turn the Motor off at any time by turning the buttons back to their leftmost position.

Timer

  • The upper button ‘TIMER’ is used to set the duration of the operation of the Moonboon Motor.
  • The 3 dots each represent 1 hour. The Motor may be set to operate be- tween 5 minutes and 3 hours.

Tempo

  • The lower button ‘TEMPO’ is used to set the speed of operation.
  • Turn the arrow to the left for the lowest speed and to the right for the highest speed.

Starting the Motor

  • First, turn on the ‘TIMER’ button and set the desired time.
  • Then turn the ‘TEMPO’ button and set the desired speed. If the light is green and both buttons have been set, just put your hand on the cross pin and activate the Baby Hammock or Twin Baby Hammock by pressing down on it once or twice. The Cradle, in the same way, is activated by pulling down on it once or twice.

The motor will automatically begin operating the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle. The tempo setting may be adjusted at any time to the preference of your baby.

Once the set time has been reached, the Motor will slowly decrease its speed before fully stopping.

Note

  • the motor will not work without weight in the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle.
  • The Moonboon Motor may be stopped at any time by touching the hammock or the spring. Doing so will make the motor light come on red, and the motor must be restarted be- fore it can resume operating.
Malfunction Indicator

No light
Check that the power cord is firmly inserted into the top of the Moon- boon Motor and that the
power is on. Turn off the power and wait 30 seconds before turning it on again.

If the light still does not come on, the Motor may need servicing. Please contact our customer
service team.

The light alternates between red and green
This is an indication that the wrong kind of power is being supplied. See the details in the safety
checklist.

The light is red
There has been a malfunction in the Motor. The Motor may be restarted by turning off both buttons and turning them on again. If the light is red repeatedly, some reasons could include:

  • that there is insufficient weight in the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle. Read the section on WEIGHT.
  • that the strap/chain above the motor is too long (this can be the case with ceiling-mounted Motors). Read the section on WEIGHT.
  • that the motor starts at too low a speed. You could start the motor at a higher speed and then reduce the speed as desired.
  • that the motor wire is not fastened correctly to the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle.
  • that baby is fussy and moves around too much in the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle. The Motor will register such movement as an irregular tug at the motor wire, which is a safety risk, and it will turn off.

Questions and Answers

Can the Moonboon Motor be used with a Baby Hammock of a different brand? The Moonboon Motor Moonboon is compatible with most Baby Hammocks on the market, but it is developed especially to be used with the Baby Hammock, Twin Baby Hammock, or Cradle and their springs.

Note that your baby may need to weigh more than 4 kg / 9 lbs for the Moonboon Motor to work properly if you are using a Baby Hammock of a different brand. Refer to the section on WEIGHT.

What kind of hook is to be used to hang the motor from the ceiling?
If you choose to hang your Motor from a hook in the ceiling, we always recommend you use Moonboon’s Mounting Kit, which includes a stainless steel ceiling hook and a hardwearing mounting strap in cotton and nylon. If you choose to use another hook, you must always ensure that the hook is strong enough to carry the weight of the Cradle and the child.

If your ceiling is plaster, it is generally recommended that you hang any weight from a structural beam or rafter foot.

Why can’t the Motor move faster?
Several experts have participated in the design of the Moonboon products – engineers as well as professionals from the health authorities. Our primary concern has always been safety, and the maximum speed of the motor was set according to the recommendations of the experts.

Why are plastic parts included with my Moonboon Motor?
In August 2021, the Danish Safety Authority reported that there have been cases of children getting metal splinters in their eyes due to unsuitable metal hooks used to hang sensory swings, bird’s nest swings, and baby hammocks.

With this in mind, Moonboon has developed a specific Mounting Kit to mount your Moonboon Motor from concrete and wooden ceilings. Furthermore, Moonboon has developed plastic parts for the Spring and Motor to avoid metal on metal.

Please note
It is important to use a stainless steel hook without coating. Similar precautions must be applied if you use a metal chain.
