Product Information
The YASHICA camera comes with a Film Speed Dial, Footage Counter, Battery Compartment, Viewfinder, Exposure Meter, Lens, Shutter Release Button, and a Side Cover Lock. The camera requires a battery for the exposure meter to function properly.

Battery Loading and Replacement
- Push the Battery Compartment Cover Button and the Cover will swing open.
- Load the battery as per the instructions given in the user manual and replace the cover.
- Install batteries according to the diagram. Keep a spare sets on hand and replace exhausted ones immediately. Any type of size “AA:’ penlight batteries can be used, but high-energy types such as manganese· alkaline will give longer life.
Film Loading

Open the Side Cover by lifting the Side Cover Lock and turning it counter-clockwise.

Load the film in subdued light or in the shadow of your body if you are in the sunshine outdoors.

Press the shutter release to make sure the film moves properly. Close and lock the cover. Run the film until the red indicator of the footage counterpoints at 0. Now you are ready to shoot.

Hold the footage counter lever down and remove the take-up spool.

Pull out about 6 inches of film leader. Set the spool on the upper spool stud and slip film in front of the spring-loaded pressure plate. Make sure the film is threaded according to the diagram in the camera and rests on the guide rollers beside the pressure plate.

Wind leader ends on take·up spool with three·notch hole uP. hold the counter lever down and place the spool on the bottom stud. Rotate the spool to fit notches on the shaft.

Press the shutter release to make sure the film mOlles properly. Close and lock the cover. Run the film until the red indicator of the footage counter points at “0”. Now you are ready to shoot.
Film Reloading
- Turn over the loaded spool so that Figure 2 is visible, and then insert it in the upper spool stud.
- Repeat the film loading procedure given on Page 4 of the user manual.
- Using the Second Half of the Film. After filming the full 25 feet, run the film until · the red indicator of the footage counter aligns with the “E” mark. Then, open the side cover and remove the spool from the take·up spool stud, taking due precautions against recoiling of the film.
- Turn over the loaded spool so that Figure 2 is visible, and then insert it in the upper spool stud. Then, repeat the procedure given.
Tips for Making Better Movies
- Set the Film Speed Dial according to the ASA speed rating of your film.
- The small needle seen on the lower fringe of the viewfinder is linked directly to the light meter and warns against poor exposure. If the needle swings into either of the two red zones, stop filming as you may have overexposed or underexposed the film.
- Yashica 8·ES with a universal focus lens does away with the trouble of focusing and is set at the standard speed of 16 frames per second. The red frame in the finder outlines the exact area which will appear on the film. Always make sure to compose your picture within this frame.
