REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONS
You can find a detailed description of the functions in the separate instructions for the remote control.
Speed Control
The electronic speed controller (ESC) that comes with your model is a very
powerful electronic device.
Please follow these precautions carefully to prevent damage to the speed
controller or other components.
- Battery operation: Always disconnect the rechargeable battery from the speed controller (ESC) when it is not in use.
- Always adhere to the maximum and minimum limits of the speed controller as shown below. Voltage range: LiPo cells: 2-4S ( 7.4-14.8V)
- Switch on the remote control first: Switch on the remote control before turning on the speed controller to prevent the model from moving unintentionally or in uncontrolled manner.
- No reverse polarity protection: The ESC is not protected against reverse polarity. (Ensure that it is connected with the correct polarity.)
Driving your model
Before continuing, pay attention to the following important precautions.
- Leave the model to cool down for a few minutes at regular intervals. This is especially important when using battery packs with a high capacity that enable longer operating times. Monitoring the temperature prolongs the lifespan of the batteries and the motor.
- Switching the gears:
1st gear: For maximum torque, drive the vehicle primarily in the lower gear.
2nd gear: The higher gear can be used for faster speeds. Only use this gear in open surroundings with sufficient space. However, please note that continuous use can cause the motor/ESC to overheat. This can lead to premature wear of the motor.
Operating the High-Low Transmission:
Use the “CH3/Channel 3” button on the remote control to switch between the 1st (slow) and 2nd (fast) gear. (Note the different speeds!) The gear lever and servo status indicates the corresponding gear. (See fig.)
Operating the Transfer Case
- CH4 / Channel 4 on remote control: Switches between the 3 driving modes.
- 4WD (all-wheel drive)
- FWD (front wheel drive)
- RWD (rear wheel drive)
- Choose a driving mode that is appropriate for the type of terrain.
- If a new servo is installed, please pay attention to the following diagrams. Configure the servo parameters according to the status shown in the diagram. Ensure that no continuous force is exerted on the servo, as this may cause damage to the servo.
Operating the Differenzial lock
- The crawler’s front and rear differential lock is controlled via channel 5 (“CH 5”) and channel 6 (“CH 6”) on the remote control.
- In most driving scenarios, the differential can be locked or unlocked at any time. If the difference in speed between the left and right tyres is too great, release the throttle to reduce the difference in speed, and then lock the differential. In most cases, the crawler functions best when the front and rear differentials are unlocked. This ensures optimal handling performance and the smallest steering radius while reducing the pressure on the drive components. If the crawler loses its traction on loose terrain when the differential is unlocked, it is recommended to lock the differential.
- Please note that the vehicle is more difficult to control at higher speeds when the differential is locked. This is most apparent when driving around bends.
Run Time
The type and condition of the batteries has a significant impact on the
driving time. The rated power of the batteries in milliampere-hours (mAh)
determines the size of your “fuel tank”. In theory, a 3000 mAh battery pack
lasts for twice as long as a 1500 mAh battery pack. Due to the wide range of
available battery types and charging methods, it is not possible to provide
precise driving times for the model. The way in which the model is driven
also significantly affects the driving time. The driving time may be shorter
if the model is repeatedly stopped and then accelerated to the maximum speed.
Tips for Increasing Run Time
- Use batteries with a higher capacity.
- Use a premium charger labelled with “Delta Peak”.
- Read and follow all maintenance and care instructions from the manufacturer, your batteries and your chargers.
- Keep the speed controller cool. Ensure that there is a sufficient flow of air above the speed controller’s heat sink.
- Handle your model with care. Do not allow dirt or damaged parts to become trapped in the drive train. Keep the motor clean.
Precautions
- Without proper care, some parts of the model may be seriously damaged if they come into contact with water. Please note that additional maintenance work is required after driving in wet conditions in order to maintain the performance of your model. If you are not prepared to carry out additional care and maintenance work, do not drive the model in wet conditions.
- The remote control is not waterproof. Do not expose it to wet conditions such as rain.
- Do not operate the model during heavy rain, storms or other adverse weather conditions.
Motor Precautions
The motor lifespan can be significantly reduced by mud and water.
If the motor gets excessively wet or is submerged in water, reduce the speed
immediately and allow the excess water to drain off. Applying full throttle
when the motor is filled with water can quickly lead to motor failure. Your
driving habits determine the lifespan of the motor. Never attempt to
deliberately submerge the motor under water.
Additional Maintenance
Increase the frequency with which you disassemble, inspect and lubricate the
necessary parts. This is necessary after prolonged use in wet conditions, or
if the vehicle is not used for an extended period (e.g. one week or longer).
This additional maintenance is required to prevent corrosion of certain parts
due to trapped moisture.
