Above all the reseller should read through the complete present user manual carefully, in order to then explain it to the customer in detail. This way, with help of the reseller, the user as well as the attendant must become familiar with the correct operation of the aid. Once the demonstration has been completed, the reseller must ensure the user and/ or the assistant have fully understood the basic functions of the equipment. This is the only way to prevent the user from dangerous situations. The above mentioned requirements must be observed for first use and also for reuse. The seller must give instruction for use, as well as explain the basic functions of the device according to MPG (medical products law) to qualified staff.

Fit the hand control to the hand control socket located on the base of the control unit.

Note:
The hand control lead can only be fitted in one orientation into its socket. Dot not use force to insert the hand control into its socket. The plug when correctly inserted  should be pushed firmly home.

Operation of the electric actuators
The raising and lowering of the lifting arm and the spreading of the suspension will be achieved by pressing the corresponding button on the control.
Before you use the stand-up aid, please insure, that the emergency-stop-button (Image 6 – 11 ) is not pushed. if applicable solve the button by turning the knob.
In dangerous situations push the red emergency-stop-button on the control unit immediately.

After using the Vita-Lift 210 please always push the emergency-stop-button, otherwise the battery is going to unload.

Operation the emergency lowering
In the case of a manual operation fault, the electrical functions can also be operated via the two micro push-buttons of the emergency control on the control unit.
The electrical emergency lowering (Image 7 – 1 ) allows the lifting arm to be lowered to the lowest position.
To do this, press with a ballpoint pen or other pointed object int the right hole (micro button) below the redt button on the control unit.
You have the option of emergency operation (lifting the support arm) via the left micro button (Image 7 – 2 ).

Additionally you can use the manual emergency lowering facilitated (Image 8 – 3 ) by pulling the red lever on the lift actuator upwards until the support arm is in the desired position.

Operation – General Instructions
The first thing you should do is to put a sling on the patient that is suitable for your purpose.
Putting on the sling
The sling should be applied at pelvic level, centred on the spine. If necessary, a sling with an additional seat belt should be used.
The ends of the loops are passed forward under the arms to the lifting arm and hooked in.

Positioning in the transfer aid
Push the Vita-Lift 210 approach the patient and lock the brakes of the wheels. You should make sure that you straddle the legs (Fig. 10 – 4 ) before lifting by pressing the corresponding button on the hand control so that the aid can be moved close enough to the user. Position the user’s feet and knees on the transfer aid. Adjust the height and depth of the knee pad (as shown on page 19 Adjusting the knee pads).

Adjustment of the knee pads
For knee pad adjustment loosen the two set screws (A for height, B for depth (Image 11 – B ).

Hooking in the sling
Adjust the lifting arm by lowering or adjusting the depth (Fig. 11) so that you can hook in the loops from the sling. The loops of the sling are hooked into the receiver at the front (Image. 12, 13 – 1 ).

Suspension parts such as loops, chains or rings must always be correctly seated in the hooks provided (Image 12 –1 ).

Note:
Make sure that the loops are hooked in evenly (colour marking, Fig. 12) so thathe user can also be lifted evenly.

Lifting and transfer
Position the hands on the handle bars or in front of the chest, depending on the user’s indication.
Raise the lifting arm until the user is almost standing. Now you can release the brakes and move the chassis together to move the user.
Make sure that the user is held securely throughout the lifting process.
During the entire transfer, the user should hold on to the handle bars. Once at the desired location, the width adjustment may need to be readjusted.
The user is lowered to the desired place (e.g. bed, armchair, chair) by lowering the lifting arm.
When the user is safely seated in the desired place, only then may the belt first be removed from the lifting arm. To do this, take the load off the loops by moving the lifting arm down a little. You can then remove the sling from the user.

Never leave the user unattended in the aid.
When putting the user down in a wheelchair or commode chair, make sure that the footrests are swung aside and the brakes on the wheelchair or commode chair are locked.
The transfer should always be as short as possible! It is important to maintain eye contact with the user during the entire transfer process.
This ensures that the caregiver can immediately adjust and react to a changing situation.

Lowering the support arm
For the intended use, the support arm is first raised with the suspended user and then lowered again to the desired position.
The weight of the user causes the support arm to lower itself when the hand control is operated.
Please note that if the support arm is raised without a user, the associated drive needs a slight load to return to the starting position.
Depending on the position, the weight of the support arm is sufficient for it to lower itself when the hand control is operated. If the support arm does not lower itself when the hand control is operated, it is sufficient to press it down slightly by hand.

During use:
If the battery is discharged while using the Vita-Lift 210 the client can be moved to the lower position by making use of the emergency lowering (on the control unit). The battery must be loaded immediately.

Emergency lowering
The Vita-Lift® 210 has a mechanical and an electrical emergency lowering system. Read here the subitem Operation of the emergency lowering on page 17.

Footplate
For patients who can still walk with support, the footplate (Image 12, 13 – 9 ) can be removed. However, care must be taken to ensure that the footrest is securely attached in the correct position below the knee pad unit.
