Introduction

The T7 Shield Portable Solid-State Drive (PSSD) brings together both the exceptional performance photographers and videographers crave, and the durability that life demands. Intelligently designed from the inside out by Samsung, the lightweight and pocket-sized T7 Shield gives consumers and professional content creators the confidence to store data on the-go knowing that their data is protected even if the device is dropped, exposed to water or dust, or carried in desert heat. It is the latest addition to the popular Samsung Portable SSD T-series and comes with Samsung software for added security, as well as access to Samsung’s unique Magician management software suite.

Professional Grade Performance and Great Capacity

Samsung’s Portable SSD T7 Shield uses the NVMe™ protocol to take full advantage of the USB 3.2 Gen2 interface, offering maximum bandwidth of up to 10Gbps. T7 Shield’s exceptional performance helps make transferring photos and video fast and easy, offering read/write speeds of up to 1,050/1,000MB/s1) respectively, which is more than 1.9 times faster than current SATA-based portable SSDs and more than 9.5 times faster than external HDDs1). The T7 Shield is also uniquely optimized to provide outstanding sustained read and write performance, even as the drive fills up, supporting heavy, continuous tasks such as high quality video recording, editing, and encoding, and helping to alleviate concerns over video rendering or quality that may be caused by inconsistent performance. The T7 Shield will be available in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities, enabling users to store hours of 8K video and thousands of next- generation photos.

Designed for Durability – Dust, Water and Drop Resistance

For years, Samsung’s Portable SSD T-series were renowned for being compact, trustworthy and easy to use on the go. Samsung is now adding outstanding durability to its Portable SSD portfolio with its T7 Shield. The new product is built with a strong aluminum body and covered with rubber for toughness. The aluminum adds the robustness and excellent heat dissipation due to high thermal conductivity. The tough rubber coating makes the device easy to grip and helps to protect against scratches or stains, and withstand external shocks. For added protection, Samsung also integrated two barriers surrounding the USE-connector port to help block out water and dust. The T7 Shield has obtained the IP6S2i certification from an internationally accredited certification lab3J and has passed internal tests4J involving drops from up to three meters (9.8 feet). With this durable design, users can take their T7 Shield on an outdoor photo shoot or travel adventure without worrying about damage from the natural environment or sheer bad luck.

2l IP Rating refers to IP Code or Ingress Protection Code which is defined in !EC 60529 and rates the degree of protection provided by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures against dust and water. 3l The certification of the IP rate (KCTL) is effective in countries and accreditation organizations that are members of the !LAC. (104 countries) If the T7 Shield has been immersed in water, dry it thoroughly before u sing it. Damage caused by liquid and dust are not covered under warranty. 4l The internal free fall shock test was conducted under controlled conditions.

Management software

The T7 Shield comes embedded with upgraded software for PCs and Macs to help you set up a password and get the latest firmware updates. You can also download the mobile app for Android smartphones and tablets. In addition, Magician software supports Samsung Portable SSD (from Magician 7.0, released on Sep 2021) so that users can benchmark performance, PSID revert for factory rest, use security functions (password registration) and receive firmware updates.

Multi-device compatibility

Samsung Portable SSD T7 Shield is designed to be connected to your life’s devices. The T7 Shield is power-efficient and meets the USB power standard, which allows it to be compatible with a variety of host devices. Specifically, to prolong its battery life, the T7 Shield is designed to operate on low power when connected to most mobile devices (mobile phones/tablets). In addition, the T7 Shield provides fast, sustained write performance, making it suitable for use by content creators and professionals with broadcasting cameras. With Samsung’s expertise in manufacturing a variety of devices from TV to mobile products, the latest portable SSD T7 Shield provides wide compatibility.

  • Compatibility with host devices may vary. Please see the list of compatible devices on www.samsung.com/support.

    What’s In the Box
How to Connect / Disconnect

① Select the cable compatible with your device. Connect one end of the cable to the device and the other end to the T7 Shield.
② To protect your data, always use “Eject”, “Unmount” or “Safely Remove Hardware” when disconnecting the T7 Shield.

How to Connect / Disconnect

System Requirements

USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) Interface Support

USB (Universal Serial Bus) is a serial input/output interface standard for connecting various devices. T7 Shield’s data transfer speed is optimal with USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) and using lower versions such as USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps), USB 2.0 and 1.1 may result in lower performances due to interface limitations inherent in such lower versions.

  • Performance may vary depending on user’s system to which the T7 Shield is connected. Since the T7 Shield’s performance may be suboptimal if your system does not support UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) even when using USB 3.2 Gen 2 connections, please make sure that your system supports
    UASP.

Operating System Requirements

  • Windows OS: Windows 7 or higher
  • Mac OS: Mac OS X 10.10 or higher
  • Android: Android Lollipop or higher
  • The 4TB version of the T7 Shield is only compatible with a 64-bit OS.

File Formats

T7 Shield is pre-formatted to use exFAT files, which are supported by Windows OS, Mac OS, and Android operating systems. As specified in the table below, whether data formatted to a certain format may be read or written to your computer vary depending on the OS. If you use the T7 Shield on a single OS, we recommend that you format it using the appropriate file format for that OS.

Table 1: Read/write restrictions for file systems by each operating system.

File Formats Windows OS Mac OS
exFAT Both read and write Both read and write
NTFS Both read and write Read only
HFS/HFS+ / APFS Not recognizable Both read and write
  • When using exFAT across multiple operating systems, data writing may become locked and you may only be able to read data. If this occurs, you can restore write access by following the instructions below.

    • Mac OS: Connect the T7 Shield to your Mac again, and perform Eject.
    • Windows OS: When receiving notice that write access is disabled, click “Scan and fix” to perform Check Disk (CHKDSK). In case you closed the notice without performing Check Disk, you may alternatively do the following: select the drive → right-click → Properties → Tools → Check.
  • To perform the Time Machine function on Mac, change the file’s format to APFS.

Capacity of T7 Shield Displayed on the System

The capacity reported by the system to which the T7 Shield is connected may differ from the labeled capacity, due to the difference between the decimal and binary systems of measurement and other factors including the drive’s partitioning and blocking.

  • e.g.: Windows OS: 1 GB = 1,024MB, Mac OS: 1GB = 1,000MB
Labeled capacity uses decimal system and is convertible as below:
    1 GB=1,000,000,000 bytes, 1 TB=1,000,000,000,000 bytes
Your computer may demonstrate a lower capacity if a different measurement standard is used

Using T7 Shield

Connecting T7 Shield

Select the cable compatible with your device. Connect one end of the cable to the device and the other end to the T7 Shield.

Disconnecting T7 Shield

Be sure to use the Safely Remove Hardware feature whenever disconnecting the T7 Shield. Unplugging the T7 Shield from your computer without using the Safely Remove Hardware feature may cause data loss or damage to the T7 Shield.

  • Samsung shall not be liable for loss of user data or product damages caused by the user’s failure to comply with this instruction.
