Important Safety Instructions
READ AND SAVE THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS HUMIDIFIER
WHEN USING ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES, BASIC PRECAUTIONS SHOULD ALWAYS BE
FOLLOWED TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK AND INJURY TO PERSONS,
INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING:
-
The humidifier should ALWAYS be placed on a firm, flat, waterproof surface at least four feet (1.2m) away from bedside, 12 inches (30cm) from the wall and out of reach of children and pets.
-
Be sure the humidifier is in a stable position and the power cord is away from heated surfaces and out of the way to prevent the humidifier from being overturned.
-
Before using the humidifier, extend the cord and inspect for any signs of damage. DO NOT use the unit if the cord has been damaged. DO NOT operate with power cord coiled or with twist tie in place.
-
The humidifier has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other) as a safety feature. This plug will fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. DO NOT attempt to defeat this safety feature.
-
CAUTION: To avoid fire or electric shock hazard, plug the humidifier directly into a 120V AC electrical outlet. To avoid risk of fire, electric shock, or personal injury, DO NOT use an extension cord or power strip.
-
The humidifier should ALWAYS be unplugged and emptied when not in operation or while being cleaned. Shut off and unplug humidifier before moving.
DO NOT move or tilt humidifier while it is in operation. Plug and unplug unit with dry hands. NEVER pull by cord. -
DO NOT operate the humidifier without water. Turn off and unplug unit when tank is empty.
-
Humidifier requires regular cleaning. Refer to and follow cleaning instructions.
-
DO NOT operate outdoors; this humidifier is intended for indoor residential use only.
-
DO NOT cover or insert objects into any openings on the unit. DO NOT block intake or output vents.
-
DO NOT attempt to repair or adjust any electrical or mechanical functions on this humidifier. Doing so will void your warranty.
-
DO NOT add any essential oils or medications (e.g. Kaz Inhalant or Vicks VapoSteam) into Removable Tray or Water Tank.
-
When moving or lifting the full Water Tank, use two hands; one hand on the Tank Handle and the other on the bottom of the Tank.
-
DO NOT touch skin with exposed VapoPad or place VapoPad on furniture, fabric, bedding, or plastic.

Getting to know your Vicks Filtered Cool Moisture Humidifier
Invisible moisture
This Vicks Filtered Cool Moisture Humidifier is an evaporative humidifier.
- Evaporative humidification means you will NOT see the moisture output.
- With evaporative humidification, a fan pulls dry air from the room through the saturated Wicking Filter. Moisture from the Wicking Filter evaporates and is pushed into the room with the help of the fan.
- Evaporative humidification adjusts moisture output to the amount of moisture the air can hold. The drier (less humid) the air in the room, the more moisture the humidifier will add to the air. An evaporative humidifier cannot add more moisture to the room than the air can hold. The amount of moisture the air can hold depends on many factors including relative humidity level, temperature and size of room.
Components
How It Works
A Wicking Filter inside the humidifier absorbs water from the Removable
Tray. A fan pulls dry air from the room into the humidifier where it passes
through the saturated Wicking Filter. The filter captures minerals and other
impurities from the water, before the moisture is evaporated back into the dry
room with the help of the fan. The amount of moisture output depends on many
factors, including the current room humidity and temperature. As the humidity
level in the room increases, the moisture output decreases, which prevents
over humidification.

Setting Up Your Humidifier
- Remove packaging material. Keep this Instruction Manual for reference.
- Remove twist tie and extend power cord.
- Place the humidifier on a firm, level, water resistant surface at least 12″ (30 cm) from any walls. DO NOT place on surfaces that can be damaged by water.
Prepare Wicking Filter
A Wicking Filter is required for this unit to operate.
The Wicking Filter will capture minerals from your water and will prevent
“white dust.” If you have hard water, you will need to replace your filter
more frequently. See “Filter Care” section for tips on prolonging the life of
your Wicking Filter.
It is recommended that you use authentic Protec PWF2 Replacement Filters. This
filter is designed to work with your humidifier.
- Remove Tank. Lift Removable Tray to remove tray and Wicking Filter.
- Run Wicking Filter under cool water until saturated. DO NOT wring filter.
- Fold filter flat. Insert wet filter into Removable Tray. Place Removable Tray back in humidifier.
DO NOT squeeze out excess water.
Filling/Refilling Water Tank
- Remove Water Tank by grasping Handle and pulling up. Remove Tank Cap by turning counter clockwise (to left).
- Fill the Water Tank with cool tap water. DO NOT use warm or hot water. DO NOT ADD ESSENTIAL OILS, MEDICATIONS, OR INHALANT LIQUIDS such as Vicks VapoSteam or Kaz Inhalant to the Water Tank. Doing so could cause damage to the humidifier and void the warranty.
- Replace Tank Cap and secure tightly by turning clockwise (to right).
- Carry full Water Tank back to humidifier using two hands; one hand on handle at the top of the Tank and other hand supporting the bottom of the Tank. Take care not to push the plunger on the bottom of the Water Tank or leaking may occur. DO NOT carry the Tank by the Water Release Valve.
- Place the Water Tank on the humidifier Base. Some water will empty into the Removable Tray.
Note: Once the filled Water Tank has been placed on the unit DO NOT move
humidifier. Doing so could cause leakage and spills.
Operating Your Humidifier
-
With Power Knob in the OFF position, plug humidifier into a polarized 120V outlet.
CAUTION: To avoid electric shock, DO NOT plug humidifier into outlet with wet hands. -
Turn the Power Knob to high ( ) or low ( ) setting.
High ( ) setting will provide quicker moisture output. The fan will push more moisture off the Wicking Filter and into the air. The water level will go down faster than on the low ( ) setting since more moisture is going into the air.
Low ( ) will provide less moisture output. The fan will run quieter and the Water Tank will not have to be filled as frequently since less moisture is going into the air. -
When the Tank is empty, turn off the humidifier and refill it. NOTE: If the humidifier will not be used for more than a few days, empty the water from the Water Tank and Removable Tray and dry out the filter to prevent growth of bacteria or mold.
NOTE: While the humidifier is operating, you will hear the fan running
but will NOT see the moisture output. This is normal for an evaporative
humidifier. To check the humidity level in the room, use a humidity monitor
like the Vicks V70 or V70-CAN, available at retailers or online at
www.vickshumidifiers.com.
You may hear a gurgling sound. This is the water flowing from the Water Tank
into the Removable Tray and indicates your humidifier is working properly.
Using Vicks VapoPads
Your Cool Moisture Humidifier can be used with Vicks VapoPads to provide up to 8 hours of soothing vapors. One free sample of the menthol VapoPad is included with your humidifier. To use your unit with scent pads:
- Open Scent Pad Door.
- Open Scent Pad by tearing notch on pad bag. DO NOT touch pad with hands. If pad is touched DO NOT rub face or eyes as it may cause irritation.
- Insert Scent Pad with angled end facing towards the product. Up to two VapoPads can be inserted. Close door.
- After 8 hours discard VapoPads.
To continue using VapoPads, repeat steps 1–4.
VapoPads Recommended Usage:
- Not recommended for infants under 10 lbs (4.5 kg).
- For children between 10-22 lbs (4.5-10 kg ) DO NOT use more than 2 pads in a 24 hour period.
Scent Pad Ingredients: VSP-19, VSP19FP, VSP19VPC, VSP-19-CAN: Eucalyptus Oil, Menthol, Glycol, Cedar Leaf Oil & Others.
Filter Care
It is recommended you change your Wicking Filter every 30-60 days depending on
water quality and usage. If you have hard water you may need to replace your
filter more frequently.
Change your filter if you notice:
- The filter is hard and crusty
- The filter starts to give off an odor
- Moisture output is decreased
Be sure to only use Protec® Replacement filters. This humidifier takes Protec
PWF2 Replacement Filter.
To prolong the life of your Wicking Filter, turn it over each time you fill
the Water Tank. This will keep the top of the filter from drying out and will
help the filter to age more evenly.
If you notice the filter getting hard, you may soak the Wicking Filter in cool
water to loosen mineral buildup. This will temporarily improve the performance
until a replacement filter is purchased.
DO NOT attempt to clean the Wicking Filter with vinegar or any chemical
solutions. Doing so may damage the Filter.
NOTE: Running the humidifier without water in the Tank or Removable Tray
will help dry out Wicking Filter quickly for short term storage.
The filter still needs to be replaced regularly. Humidifier filters and
accessories require replacement and are not covered under warranty.
Caring For Your Humidifier
To keep your humidifier running efficiently, clean it regularly. Weekly
cleaning is recommended.
All maintenance should be done in the kitchen or bathroom on a water resistant
surface near a faucet.
To properly clean your humidifier we recommend the separate processes of Scale
Removal and Disinfecting. These two processes must be done separately.
Before Cleaning
- Turn off and unplug humidifier. NEVER clean the humidifier when it is running.
- Remove the Water Tank, Filter, Removable Tray and any other accessories from humidifier.
- Empty water from Water Tank and from the Removable Tray.
- Place Removable Tray back in Base.
Instructions for Scale Removal
Follow steps 1-4 under Before Cleaning, then follow the additional steps
below.
NOTE: REMOVE FILTER BEFORE CLEANING. Failure to remove filter during
cleaning will destroy the filter.
- Pour 2 cups of undiluted distilled white vinegar into the Water Tank. Replace Tank Cap and secure tightly by turning clockwise (to right). Swish vinegar around in Tank to wet entire inside.
- Ensure that the Removable Tray is in place and place Tank on Base. Vinegar solution will drain into Removable Tray and loosen mineral buildup (scale) in Water Tank. Soak for 20 minutes.
- Empty vinegar from Water Tank. Remove Removable Tray from Base. Use a cloth dampened with vinegar to wipe any scale on interior surfaces of the Base. Empty vinegar from Removable Tray.
- Rinse Water Tank and Removable Tray with water until the smell of vinegar is gone and empty into sink. DO NOT pour water into the Base or near any electrical components.
NOTE: Consider using Protec Cleaning Products (PC1, PC2 and PC1F Series)
to keep your humidifier cleaner longer. These help prevent the buildup of
slime in the water and on humidifier surfaces. The Protec Cleaning Products
will keep your humidifier cleaner longer between cleanings. However, your
humidifier still needs to be cleaned regularly.
Instructions for Disinfecting
Follow steps 1-4 under Before Cleaning, then follow the additional steps
below. Filter must be removed from humidifier before disinfecting; do not
clean filter with bleach solution.
NOTE: Bleach may stain clothes. It is recommended that you wear rubber
gloves during this process to protect your hands.
-
Mix ½ gallon (1.9L) of water with ½ teaspoon of bleach. Pour bleach solution into Water Tank. Replace Tank Cap and secure tightly by turning clockwise (to right). Swish bleach solution around in Tank to wet entire inside of Tank.
NOTE: Using more than ½ teaspoon of bleach to ½ gallon of water may result in damage to humidifier. -
Ensure that the Removable Tray is in place and place Tank on Base. Bleach solution will drain into Removable Tray. Soak for 15-20 minutes.
-
Carefully empty bleach solution from Tank and Removable Tray. Rinse with water until the smell of bleach is gone. Wipe Base with wet cloth to eliminate bleach smell. DO NOT pour water into the Base or near any electrical components.
NOTE: Only the Removable Tray is dishwasher safe. It may be cleaned in
the top rack of the dishwasher or by hand as noted in the instructions. DO NOT
place in the bottom rack of dishwasher.
All other parts are NOT dishwasher safe.
End of Season Care and Storage
Follow cleaning instructions when the humidifier will not be used for at least
one week, or at the end of the season. Remove any accessories, including the
Wicking Filter, and allow the humidifier to dry completely before storing.
DO NOT store humidifier with water inside the Base, Removable Tray or Water
Tank.
At end of season, remove and throw away filter. DO NOT store humidifier with a
used filter.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Q: I hear the fan turning, but I don’t see any mist. Is my humidifier operating properly?
– A: Dry air is pulled through the system and a fan disperses invisible, moisture balanced air. There is no visible “mist” emitted. When operating normally you will feel only cool air coming from the unit. Monitor the water level in your Tank. If you notice a decrease in the Water Tank over 24 hours then the unit is operating normally.
Q: There is water coming out of the bottom of my humidifier. It appears to be leaking.
– A: If the Tank Cap is not properly screwed onto the Tank then water will pour into the Base and overflow the Base. Turn the humidifier off. Then remove the Tank. Inspect the Tank Cap to ensure the Gasket is there. Unscrew the Tank Cap then screw Tank Cap back on. Make sure the Tank Cap is screwed on properly by aligning arrow to lock symbol . Flip Tank over to ensure no water is coming out of the cap. Place the Tank back on the humidifier and turn unit on. Note: If the Gasket is missing, please contact Consumer Relations.
Q: My unit has been running for several hours. I hear the fan spinning, but I do not notice the water level in the tank decreasing.
– A: First, check the Filter to be sure it is wet. If the Filter appears dry, remove it from the Removable Tray and gently rinse under cool water. Reposition wet Filter in the Removable Tray. You may also want to note the current moisture level in your home. If the humidity level is over 60% the unit will not put out much moisture as your air is already saturated.
Q: My filter has turned light brown and rust colored. Do I need a new filter?
– A: Probably not. The change in color indicates only a mineral deposit. Soak the Filter in a sink full of cool water to help break up deposits. The discoloration may remain but will not affect the humidifier’s performance.
Q: How often should my filter be changed?.
– A: Your filter should be changed every 1-2 months depending on water quality and usage.
Q: The gasket on my tank cap has fallen off and I am having a hard time putting it back in place.
– A: If your gasket is still in good condition it can be reinserted by stretching it and pushing it into the gasket channel. If your gasket is crimped, broken or stretched, a new gasket can be ordered through the Consumer Relations department 1-800-827-6712.
NOTE: Failure to keep this unit clean from mineral deposits normally contained in any water supply will affect the efficiency of operation of this unit. Customer failure to follow these instructions may void the warranty.
