SP8 8 Channel Smart Preamp with AD/DA
Welcome to your new 8 Channel Smart Preamp with AD/DA. Please read this quick guide to get you started.
Connect
Connect the EVO SP8 to the ADAT inputs and outputs on your audio interface using optical cables. For 44.1 or 48KHz sample rates you will need one cable in each direction. Higher rates – 88.2 and 96KHz – require two cables in each direction. Optionally, you can connect a BNC cable from your audio interface’s word clock output to the word clock input on EVO SP8. Connect the IEC power cable.

Configure Clocking
It is important to ensure all your audio convertors are synchronised, this
will prevent pops and clicks in your audio. The easiest way to achieve this is
to set EVO SP8 to follow the sample rate and clock from your audio interface
using either Word Clock or ADAT.
To set this up, enter the EVO SP8 setup menu by pressing and holding the
Control Wheel, scroll down to Clock Source, and tap the Control Wheel to enter
the Clock Source setting’s screen. Select ‘Digital’ or Word Clock’ as
appropriate by tapping the Control Wheel, tap again to confirm ‘OK

Smartgain
EVO 16’s most exciting and game changing feature is `Smartgain’. Start playing or singing and Smartgain mode will automatically set the level of your microphones.
- Press the Smartgain button to begin. The Smartgain LED will illuminate green and the input channel LEDs (1, 2, 3 & 4 etc.) will begin to flash (indicating achannel must be selected).
- Press one of the input channel buttons (or two, if setting Smartgain for a stereo pair) to select the channels to be adjusted. 1.2
- Press the Smartgain button again to begin the process.
- The Smartgain LED will start flashing red and the volume wheel LED’s will illuminate indicating that Smartgain Mode is now listening.
- Start playing or performing into the microphone.
- Smartgain Mode will dial in the correct levels and when complete the Smartgain button will flash green twice to indicate it has been successful.
- You are now ready to start recording. ****
