Tidal Surfboard and SUP Roof Rack
Tidal
Tidal is the most versatile Surf & SUP mount around, with the ability to mount
any Surfboard or SUP/ Paddle Board on any car in only a few minutes.
Tidal is a Surfboard/SUP vacuum rack designed and assembled in Oxfordshire,
UK.
Six powerful vacuum cups generate a combined vacuum rating of 600kg, more than
enough suck for your board. The baseplate is manufactured using high quality
CNC-machined HDPE polymer which enables Tidal to be compact and light, so
it’s ideal for travel as well as easy to store.
No matter your discipline; Surf or SUP, Tidal is designed to deliver for
everyone, with a soft flat base suitable for all board types. Two 3m straps
are included with every Tidal so you can safely secure your load.
Modular
Like all of our mounts Tidal is modular. This means the vacuum cups can be removed from the base plate and used in conjunction with any of our other mounts like Solo or Capture. We’ve done this to significantly reduce the cost for any of you, who like us, not only Surf but Cycle and Ski too. The vacuum cups are attached to each baseplate using a single security bolt, this allows our modular system to be safe and secure whilst not compromising the ease in which you can change each modular base to carry different sports. So if you Surf and Cycle, or Surf and Ski or all three, there is no better solution than our series of modular mounting systems.

Instruction for use
Before installing Tidal, ensure the car and vacuum cups are clean.
-
Placing Tidal on the vehicle. Take one of the Tidal mounts with vacuum cups attached and place on the roof of the car width ways, this will be the leading mount. Then place the second Tidal mount with cups attached in the same manor behind the first mount. Space the mounts accordingly for the board/ item you’ll attach to Tidal. You want Tidal to be spaced evenly so there isn’t any movement when the board is attached. Bare in mind the size of the board when doing this step.
-
Fixing Tidal to the vehicle. Now Tidal is positioned appropriately for the load and vehicle we can fix tidal to the car. To do this you will need to pump the plunger on the side of each vacuum cup. Once the yellow band on the side of the plunger disappears, the vacuum cup is secure. Repeat this with all 6 vacuum cups.
-
Placing your board on Tidal. Now Tidal is securely mounted to your vehicle it is time to place your board. To do so, place your board on Tidal so when resting it is balanced evenly between the two mounts. Your board should be facing forwards and in the direction of travel of the vehicle.
-
Fixing your board to Tidal. Now that your board is in place on Tidal it is time to secure it. Using the two supplied straps you need to wrap each strap in a figure of eight around the board and tidal on both the front and rear mount. Strapping the board down with each strap in a figure of 8 should be repeated as many times possible with the length of strap provided. There should be no movement between the board and Tidal.
Tidal is now secured to the car. Before setting off double check the yellow
band on each of the vacuum cups are still not visible and that the board is
fastened tight to each Tidal mount. Give the board a reassuring rock on the
car, providing there is no movement of the board on Tidal you are good to go.
Once on the go we recommend you periodically check that the safety band on
each of the vacuum cups isn’t visible. Leaving a maximum time between checks
of 6 hours. If you’re using the mount on a long journey use rest stops or
services as an opportunity to check the mount before setting off again.
Removal
To remove or reposition Tidal, simply lift the edge of each cup using the
raised tabs. This breaks the seal and allows the removal of Tidal. Once
removed, follow the installation instructions in reverse to remove the
attached board. Always remember to re-attach the vacuum cup covers after use.
Instruction for modular use
All of our mounts use modular vacuum cups, allowing you to remove and use them in conjunction with any of our other mounts.
- Step 1, using the supplied hex key unscrew the single bolt holding the vacuum cup to the baseplate. This will detach the vacuum cup from the baseplate allowing you to attach it to another mount.
- Step 2, to attach the vacuum cup to another mount such as Solo or Capture, or reattach it to Tidal, simply line the hole of the vacuum cup up with the baseplate and reinsert the bolt. Screw the bolt using the provided hex key until
tight. Now the vacuum cup is reattached to the base plate.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity of your mount regular maintenance is recommended. Each
time you use the mount you should clean the surface you’re mounting too and
the face of the vacuum cup itself, this is to stop any dirt breaking the seal
between car and mount, also preventing dirt between the car and mount from
scratching the surface. Like the exterior of your car the mount can get dirty,
to stop unnecessary wear of the mount from salt, grit and road debris wash the
entire mount regularly, preventing any build up of dirt around the vacuum pump
and mounting system. Washing the mount is very easy, use a sponge and water to
wipe off any dirt, should you need anything stronger use warm water or even
car shampoo. Please avoid using harsh chemicals as this can damage the rubber
of the vacuum cups and cause them to fail prematurely.
Each vacuum pump on the side of the vacuum cups will also need cleaning out,
how often will depend on how heavily the mount will be used. As a blanket
figure we recommend every few months, although we suggest you do it more
regularly if the mount frequently gets visibly dirty. To clean the vacuum
pumps you need to remove the plunger by pulling it out of the cylinder it sits
in. Once removed, using a cloth or paper towel and water wipe away any dirt
that has built up inside the pump cylinder. Dry thoroughly and lubricate the
‘O’ ring with the silicone lube provided before inserting the plunger back
into position.
The vacuum cups should be stored with the provided covers attached, this stops
the vacuum cups from deform- ing whilst not in use. Leaving the covers off for
prolonged lengths of time can cause the face of the vacuum cups to warp,
making it impossible for the vacuum cup to create a seal on the car. Before
packing away or setting up on the car you should inspect each vacuum cup. You
are checking for stiffness, cracks, rough, patches or cuts. Cuts will allow
air to escape, stopping the adhesion of the vacuum cup to the car and causing
it to fail.
The maintenance of Tidal is to ensure the longevity and most importantly the
safety of our product. Keeping the product clean, ensuring it is stored
correctly and regularly inspecting it will allow you to get the most out of
the mount. So long as maintenance is followed our products come with a years
