Use and Care:

Read all instructions before first use.

  • Wash and rinse product before every use.
  • When pickling vegetables using the Universal Jar, always use the Universal Jar Pickling Cover with valve to prevent any damage to jar. The Universal Jar Flat Cover and Rigid Handle Cover are not suited for the pickling process.
  • Attach strainer to cover to ensure contents are always submerged in liquid.
  • Store filled pickle jars upright in a cool, dark location. Once opened, store in refrigerator. Never store pickle jar sideways as it may prevent some ingredients from being fully submerged in brine, resulting in uneven pickling.
  • The product is only suitable for pickling. Please leverage Tupperware recipes and guidelines to ensure optimum and safe pickling results. Pickling quality and safety results may vary in fermentation recipes and other recipes developed outside of Tupperware guidelines.
  • If contents have an unusual appearance or smell, do not eat, just discard.
  • In order to avoid contamination when extracting contents, use a clean spoon, fork or tongs.
  • After pickling, inspect Silicone Valve for defects and cleanliness. Replace Silicone Valve if damaged.

Preparation Guidelines:

  1. Before starting, thoroughly wash Universal Jar and all tools that may be used.

  2. Wash and peel (if necessary) all produce to be pickled.

  3. Cut ingredients in uniform thickness for even results.

  4. Tightly pack ingredients into Universal Jar Base.

  5. Prepare brine as instructed in chosen recipe.

  6. Fill base with brine to bottom of bottle neck. Wait 5 minutes to let liquid go in between produce and then add more brine if needed until it reaches bottle neck.
There must always be more liquid than contents. That is why it is important that strainer is attached to cover, as it will keep contents submerged in liquid.

  7. Close jar and store upright in a cool, dark location.

  8. When you start consuming pickled contents, be sure to always have more liquid than produce

Cleaning guidelines:

  1. Clean product thoroughly after each use.
  2. Wash in hot, soapy water and rinse well, or wash in dishwasher.
  3. To make sure all parts are well cleaned, disassemble and clean separately.
  4. If using dishwasher, place Silicone Valve in cutlery basket and always place Pickling Jar on bottom rack in upside down, vertical position.
  5. Do not use abrasive cleaning pads or abrasive cleaners (including bleach), as these will scratch product.
  6. Food with spices or colored food, such as curry or tomatoes, could cause staining. Staining will not affect the performance of the product and is not covered by the Tupperware warranty.
  7. Store with cover off to allow any strong odors to release.

Best practices for Optimum Pickling Results

Follow these recommended guidelines for best pickling results.

Choose fresh vegetables.
Fresh, crunchy vegetables (cucumbers, cabbage, beans, carrots or peppers) will improve the quality of your pickle. Do not use soft or crushed vegetables, as they spoil quickly and will have a negative impact on preparation.

Clean all tools.
Clean and sanitize all tools before pickling, including pots, kitchen tools Universal Jar and Pickling Cover to reduce any chance of contamination.

Wash and prep vegetables.
Thoroughly wash, peel (if necessary) and cut vegetables in uniform sizes for best pickling results.

Use sea salt or kosher salt for their antibacterial properties.
Use salt that has zero to minimal processing. Salt that is naturally harvested is free of additives and preservatives.

Use clean drinking water.
Use home drinking water or purified tap water while pickling. If using tap water, boil it before using in pickling preparation.

Keep vinegar level at least 10-15% of the liquid for better results.
The higher the percentage of vinegar in your recipe, the lower the risk of bacterial growth.

Keep vegetables submerged in liquid.
Make sure all ingredients are fully submerged for fresh, crunchy results.

Tightly close jar cover.
A tight cover prevents outside air from seeping inside, which could otherwise cause pickling ingredients to spoil before they are done. The Universal Pickling Jar is designed with a tight cover and valve, which is ideal for good results.

Follow storage instructions!
For best results, store the Pickling Jar upright in a cool, dark location.
