Surface Mode
Prior to taking Surface temperatures, don’t forget to select Surface mode. Aim the thermometer between 1.2 and 2 inches from the object’s surface in the middle.

If the thermometer is aimed in the air instead of forehead, and the air temperature is below 89.6°F (32°C), the display will show “ ****“. Retake the temperature by aiming the thermometer at the center of the forehead, between 1.2″- 2” from the skin. -
