GOLDRING E Series Moving Magnet Cartridges

Thank you for purchasing this Goldring E Series cartridge.
All cartridges in the range feature a ‘dual magnet’ generator assembly, making for a more accurate stereo rendition. Featuring spherical styli with a choice of cantilevers the E1 and E2 models are ideal as a budget replacement for an obsolete cartridge. The E3 model, with its refined elliptical stylus, is a worthwhile upgrade for those wishing to squeeze even more information from the record groove.

CARTRIDGE MOUNTING

The E Series cartridge range is compatible with all tonearms having standard 12.7 mm (0.5 in) fixing centres. For correct alignment a stylus protractor may be required depending on your tonearm manufacturer’s recommendation. Remove the old cartridge from the tonearm. Working with the stylus guard still in place, proceed to connect the color-coded tonearm leads to the corresponding connection pins on the rear of the new cartridge (see Fig. 1). A=Hot Left (White), B=Cold Left (Blue), C=Hot Right (Red), D=Cold Right (Green).

Warning: Under no circumstances should the headshell leads be soldered directly to the contact pins on the cartridge. Heat applied to the contact pins will cause irreversible damage to the internal components.
Use only the socket head mounting screws provided. Insert the screws from the top and loosely attach the cartridge to the headshell so that its position can still be adjusted. Refer to your tonearm manufacturer’s instructions to properly set the exact position of the cartridge within the headshell. Only when this is set to the tonearm manufacturer’s specified position will the cartridge perform to its full potential. Finally, tighten the screws using the allen key provided. To avoid damage do not over-tighten the screws.

PLAYING WEIGHT
The recommended playing weight for all models is 2.0 g. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for the setup procedure specific to your tonearm. Do not forget to remove the stylus guard before setting the playing weight. Do not exceed the maximum specified playing weight. To prevent damage when not in use, remember to refit the stylus guard.

AMPLIFIER CONNECTIONS
The E Series cartridge range features moving magnet technology and should therefore only be connected to the MM or ‘Phono’ input of your integrated amplifier or pre-amplifier.

STYLUS REPLACEMENT
Goldring styli are manufactured to the highest possible standard, however it is vital that the condition of the stylus is regularly checked. If properly cared for a spherical diamond stylus can last up to 500 hours before wear causes noticeable degradation of performance. In the case of an elliptical diamond stylus the expected lifespan can be extended up to 1000 hours. A damaged or worn stylus will cause irreparable damage to your precious vinyl collection and should be replaced immediately. When a replacement stylus is required, use only a genuine Goldring stylus assembly.
Replacement procedure: Grasp the stylus housing as shown and withdraw it gently from the cartridge (see Fig. 2).

To replace the stylus, grasp the stylus housing very carefully between thumb and forefinger, insert the square boss into the aperture in the cartridge body and gently push home as shown until the stylus housing is flush with the body (see Fig. 3).
Warning: Never use force when replacing the stylus assembly.
