InstaTrim-IT05INBLK-Black-Caulk-Strip-PRO

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Cutting Board
  • Razor Blade or Scissors Acetone or Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Scrubby Sponge or
  • Soft-bristle Brush
  • Caulk or Grout Removal Tool
  • Soft Lint-free Cloth
  • Optional: Permanent Glue Hair Dryer

INSTALLATION TIPS

  • Be Aware of Silicone – some tile and stone comes with a thin layer of silicone sealant applied. Silicone caulk and silicone sealant must be 100% removed prior to installing InstaTrim. Instructions are included.

  • Unroll the Spool and Let it Rest – prior to installation, unrolling the strip and letting it lay flat will help to make it easier to work with.

  • Clean the Application Area – remove loose debris and dust, wipe down the area with acetone and let dry completely.

  • Do Not – use cleaners with oil, wax or silicone in the ingredients.

  • Use InstaTrim at Room Temperature –
Do not install in temperatures below 68° F.

  • Press FIRMLY Into Place – InstaTrim’s adhesive needs to spread in order to grab and adhere to the application surface. We recommend
    using the InstaTrim Applicator.
    Tool to make installation easier!

  • Avoid Stretching – stretching as you work will result in the trim shrinking back from the ends of the application area and may cause the adhesive to lose its grip.

  • Tight Curves – use a hair dryer to warm the strip to make it easier to work with and look smooth around tighter curve.

Always use ventilation in enclosed areas with any solvent cleaning solution.

CLEAN AND PREPARE THE INSTALLATION SURFACE

SILICONE MUST BE REMOVED 100% FROM THE APPLICATION SURFACE PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
Be aware that some old caulking may be silicone-based and that tile, stone and other building materials may come with a thin layer of silicone release. We recommend using Acetone for silicone removal.

  1. Cut away and remove all caulk with a caulk remover tool or razor blade.
  2. Apply Acetone or Isopropyl Alcohol to the silicone and let sit for a 1/2 hr or so before scrubbing the area with a scrubby sponge or brush. Always use ventilation with any solvent cleaning solution.
  3. Vacuum or wipe away any loose dust, grout or debris.
  4. Thoroughly wipe down the area with Acetone or Isopropyl Alcohol to remove any silicone residue or sealant that is left behind.
  5. Let the surface dry completely before installation.

QUICK & EASY STEPS TO THE PERFECT INSTALLATION

  • MEASURE – Lay the new trim strip along the application area to determine the length needed. Before cutting, add 1/8 inch. Cut with a razor blade or scissors.
  • PEEL – Locate the thin plastic release liner that covers the adhesive and peel back about 12 inches of liner.
  • PRESS – Line up the end of the strip with the end of the application area and lightly press it into place every 3-4 inches along the strip, pulling back additional liner as you work. If the placement isn’t quite right, you can pull the strip back from the surface to re-align. CAUTION: Do not pull or stretch InstaTrim while you work as this may cause the ends to shrink back over time.
  • APPLY FIRM PRESSURE – Once the trim is set into place, use FIRM pressure to push it into the corner, every 1-2 inches along the strip. Then go over the entire strip again with FIRM pressure to ensure the adhesive has spread and adhered onto the application surface. We recommend using the InstaTrim Applicator Tool to make installation even easier.

TIP: Issues with the adhesive sticking to the surface? Review the directions for prepping the surface, especially the section about silicone removal. Also, make sure the InstaTrim and the application surface is at room temperature, and if needed, use a hairdryer to warm up the strip slightly before installation.

SPLICING TWO STRIPS IN-LINE

  1. Lay the trim strip, adhesive side down on a cutting board.
  2. Using a razor blade, cut the finish end of the First Strip at a 45° angle, then press into place.
  3. Lay the second strip, adhesive side down on a cutting board.
  4. Back cut the end of the Second Strip at a 45° angle.
  5. Overlap the cut end of the second strip with the first and press into place.
  6. Recommended: Apply a small dab of permanent glue where the ends meet and the adhesive has been cut away.

INSTATRIM ACCESSORIES

APPLICATOR TOOL – The key to installing InstaTrim is that you need to press the strip firmly enough into the surface to cause the adhesive to spread and grab onto the surface area.

The Applicator Tool’s ergonomic handle makes it easy on your hands and assists in applying firm pressure for the final step of installation.

CORNER AND END TRIM PIECES – Correctly splicing corners is challenging and may take a lot of practice to do it correctly. Look for our new Corner and End Trim Pieces for 3/4″ wide InstaTrim to make it quick and easy to finish corners and to hide exposed trim ends, no splicing required. Our new trim ends will be available in late 2022. Making InstaTrim easier and looking better than ever.
