  • Risk of electric shock — This device contains electronic components. Only use the device as described in the manual, otherwise, you run the risk of an electric shock.
  • Choking hazard — Keep packaging material, like plastic bags and rubber bands, out of the reach of children, as these materials pose a choking hazard.
  • Risk of chemical burn — Keep batteries out of the reach of children! Make sure you insert the batteries correctly. Leaking battery acid can lead to chemical burns. Ensure battery acid does not come into contact with skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. In the event of contact, rinse the affected region immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
  • Risk of fire/explosion — Do not expose the device to high temperatures. Use only the recommended batteries. Do not short-circuit the device or batteries, or throw them into a fire. Excessive heat or improper handling could trigger a short circuit, a fire, or an explosion.
  • Do not disassemble the device. In the event of a defect, please contact your dealer. The dealer will contact the Service Centre and can send the device in to be repaired, if necessary.
  • Use only the recommended batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries. Always replace weak or empty batteries with a new, complete set of batteries at full capacity. Do not use batteries from different brands, types or with different capacities. Remove the batteries from the unit if it is not to be used for a long period of time, or if the batteries are empty!
  • Never recharge normal, non-rechargeable batteries. This could lead to an explosion during the charging process.
  • Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult supervision.
  • The terminals must not be short-circuited.
  • Do not disassemble the device. In the event of a defect, please contact your dealer. The dealer will contact the Service Centre and can send the device in to be repaired, if necessary.
  • Keep instructions and packaging as they contain important information.

NOTES on Cleaning

  • Separate the device from the power supply or remove the batteries before cleaning.
  • Only use a dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. To avoid damaging the electronics, do not use any cleaning fluid.
  • Protect the device from dust and moisture.

Before using the device

Remove the belt clip

Installing the Batteries

  1. Open the battery compartment at the bottom of the battery compartment cover.

  2. Insert 3x AAA alkaline NiMH rechargeable batteries (not included) into each unit. Normal AAA batteries can also be used, but only NiMH rechargeable batteries can be recharged with the included USB charging cable.
    WARNING: Never charge normal, non-rechargeable batteries! They may explode as a result of charging.

  3. Position the batteries according to the polarity marking on the battery compartment.

  4. After placing the batteries into the correct positions, replace the battery cover and attach the clip.

Using the device

  1. Turning the device on/off
    To turn the device on or off, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds until you hear a beep sound.

  2. Adjusting the volume
    To increase the volume, press the UP button. Press the DOWN button to decrease the volume.

  3. Low Battery Indication
    The device can detect the low battery level when the battery voltage goes low. When the battery voltage is low, the battery icon will flash and a beep will be heard to indicate that the batteries need to be replaced.

  4. Receiving/transmitting communications:
    The device is in „Receiving“ mode when it is turned ON and not transmitting. When a signal is received on the current channel, the LCD will display it.
    When you hold the PTT (push to talk) button, the device switches to “Transmission” mode. Hold the device in a vertical position with the Mic (microphone) 3-5cm away from your mouth. While holding the PTT button, speak into the microphone in a normal tone of voice. Release the PTT button when you have finished transmitting.
    For others to receive your transmission, they must be on the same channel as you.
    Note:

  5. The talking range will depend on your surroundings and environment. It will be affected by obstructions such as hills or buildings.

  6. Don’t try to use two devices that are less than 1.5m (5 feet) apart. Otherwise, you may experience interference.

  7. Changing Channels
    Press the MENU button once, the channel number will flash on the display.
    Press the up/down button to change the channel.
    Press the PTT button to confirm and return to standby mode.
    Note: if no button is pressed within 15 seconds during setting, the device will return to standby mode.

  8. CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System)
    Press the MENU button twice, the current CTCSS code will flash on the display. Press the up/down button to change the 38 available codes.
    Press the PTT button to confirm and return to standby mode.
    As a license-free radio operating on the 400-470MHZ frequency band, the device has 8 available radio channels. If there are many device users near you, there is a chance that some of the users may be operating on the same radio channel. When using CTCSS, a low-frequency tone (between 67- 250Hz) will be transmitted along with the voice signal. There are 38 available tones to choose from. You are free to choose one of the 38 available sub-channels. Due to filtering, these sub-channels will generally not be audible so they will not disturb the communication. “OF” in the display means OFF.

  9. VOX (Hands-free function)
    The abbreviation VOX stands for “Voice Operated Exchange“. A walkie-talkie with the VOX mode switched on is sound-activated, which means the transmission only switches on when a certain noise level is reached. You can set the voice activation level yourself. Press the MENU button three times, the current VOX setting will flash on the display and the VOX icon will display, Press the UP button to set the VOX sensitivity level between 1 and 3 levels (level 3 is the high sensitive level).
    Press the down button until “OFF” appears on the display to turn VOX OFF.
    Press the PTT button to confirm and return to standby mode.
    In VOX mode, the radio will transmit a signal when it is activated by your voice or another sound around you. VOX Operation is not recommended if you plan to use your device in a noisy or windy environment.
    Note: VOX mode will be overridden when you press the PTT button.

  10. Scanning for an active radio channel
    Press and hold the UP button 2 seconds: The “SCAN” function indicator will ap- pear on the display and the channel will scan continuously from 1 to 8. Once an ac-tive channel is found, the scanning will stop and you can listen to the transmission. When the transmission on the found channel stops, the scanning will resume au-tomatically. Note: If you press PTT button while listening to a found channel, the device will go back to stand-by mode on the found channel.

  11. Monitor
    Press and hold the DOWN button about 3 seconds to activate monitor. Release the DOWN button to return to stand by mode.

  12. Setting the Call tones
    The device has 10 call tones.
    Press the MENU button 4 times, “CA” is displayed and on the current call tone. Press the UP/ DOWN button to change another call tones.
    Press the PTT button to confirm and return to stand-by mode.

  13. Sending a call tone
    Press the PTT button once quickly, the call tone will be transmitted on the selected channel.

  14. Roger Beep On/Off
    After the PTT button is released, the device will send out a roger beep to confirm that talking stopped.
    Press the MENU button 5 times, “RO” will be displayed.
    Press the UP / DOWN button to toggle the roger beep ON/OFF.
    Press The PTT button to confirm your selection and return to the stand-by mode.

  15. Backlit display
    Press any button except for the MENU button to activate the backlight of the LCD display. The backlight will illuminate for about 5 seconds.

  16. Earpiece connection
    The device can be used with an earpiece. The connector is located on the top of the device. Insert the earpiece plug into the connector (2.5mm jack).

  17. Battery saving function
    When the device has not been used for 6 seconds, the economy mode is automatically activated. This does not affect the reception of transmission and the stand-by mode is automatically re-activated as soon as a signal is detected.

  18. Built-in Flashlight
    Your device has a built-in light that can be used in sending light signals (e.g. morse code) or for your lighting needs (e.g. Flashlight). Simply press and hold the button.

  19. Lock & Unlock the device
    Press and hold MENU button for 3 seconds to lock or unlock the device.

Disposal

Dispose of the packaging materials properly, according to their type, such as paper or cardboard. Contact your local waste-disposal service or environmental authority for information on the proper disposal.
Do not dispose of electronic devices in the household garbage!
As per the Directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament on waste electrical and electronic equipment and its adaptation into German law, used electronic devices must be collected separately and recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.
In accordance with the regulations concerning batteries and rechargeable batteries, disposing of them in normal household waste is explicitly for- bidden. Please make sure to dispose of your used batteries as required by law — at a local collection point or in the retail market. Disposal in domestic waste violates the Battery Directive.
Batteries that contain toxins are marked with a sign and a chemical symbol.
