Painting Instructions

  • Before using this 3D paint kit, please remove the model from the platform and clean it thoroughly. If the model has supports, please remove most of them first.
  • Please put on finger cots first and place the cutting mat on the workbench to avoid contaminating the workbench during the painting

Sanding

Remove the obvious supports and protruding parts, and initially sand the model.

  1. Remove the supports with a snip
  2. Cut off the tiny supports with a craft knife
  3. Remove the support marks with files
  4. Sand with sandpaper and sponge sandpaper, then wipe off the dust with water and a cloth

Grit Selection

  • <200 grit is used for rough sanding. There will be obvious scratches on the surface after sanding
  • 200-500 grit is used for preliminary sanding. After sanding, there are no obvious scratches on the surface, but it is still not fine enough.
  • 600-800 grit is used for fine sanding. The surface is comparatively smooth and delicate.
  • For the best sanding results, sand with the grain of the surface and work through a sequence of grits, from coarse to very fine.

Preparation

Prepare the wet palette

  1. Take out the sponge and pour half of the water into the tray
  2. Press the sponge to make it damp but not soggy
  3. Place a tissue on the sponge
  4. Put the palette paper in

If the model is small and light, it can be fixed on the paint handle for easier painting. (Optional)

  1. Take out a piece of blu-tack and stretch it out
  2. Rub the blu-tack to the size that matches the bottom of the model
  3. Press its bottom to fix it

Coloring

  • Apply primer (remove the cap liner before use): Cover the model with the primer to enhance the adhesion of colours and facilitate the inspection of defects. Before applying the primer, please make sure that the model has been cleaned and dried, and that there is no oil, resin residue, dust, etc. on the surface. If one layer of primer is insufficient, another layer can be applied after drying. When the primer is completely dry, you can perform secondary sanding or apply the colours.
  • Secondary sanding (optional): When the primer is completely dry, if there are still obvious defects, you can perform the sanding again to get a finer model. If the primer falls off after sanding, it can be appropriately supplemented.
  • Blending (optional): Mix the existing colours to get more colours. The colors and the proper proportions is key to blending. For example, white can make the colour lighter. If you need a light colour, add a small number of other colours to the white colours multiple times to blend.

The following colour-mixing examples are for reference only. Use your imagination to get more colours.

  • Apply colours: Paint the model with the provided colors or the new colors by blending the provided.
  • Apply varnish (remove the cap liner before use): When the colour is completely dry, apply a layer of varnish to protect the model.

Here is the way to apply colour, which is the same for applying primer and varnish

  1. Shake the colour well
  2. Drop an appropriate amount of colour on the palette paper
  3. Soften the brush in water and then dry it with a cloth
  4. Dip a little colour and paint along the surface of the model

Suggestions for Painting

  • Apply the paint as thinly and evenly as possible. Do not rub back and forth when it is semi-dry, which may cause uneven coating on the surface of the model.
  • When the first layer of paint is completely dry, several more layers can be applied to enhance the coverage effect depending on the performance of its envelope.
  • It is recommended to apply colours from the light to the dark. After the light-coloured area is dry, cover it with masking tape to avoid the darker colours staining the area.
  • After squeezing out the paint, please keep the bottle cap clean and cap it as soon as possible to prevent the paint from solidifying and blocking the tip.

Cleaning and maintenance

Please pay attention to maintaining the tools and cleaning the workbench during the painting

If the brush is not used for more than 30 seconds, please rinse it immediately. The paint will damage the bristles to affect the subsequent colouring quality and brush life. Do not soak the brush for a long time, which may damage the pen handle and deform the bristles

  • Rinse the brush with water

  • Dry it with a tissue and check if it is cleaned up

  • Rinse the brush until there is no residual colour on the tissue

  • Clean the files, craft knives, and other tools with water in time.

  • If the blade of craft knife is damaged, please replace it in time.

  • If the workbench is stained by paints, please wipe with a cloth in time.

  • If the color bottle tip is blocked, do not squeeze the bottle hard. Please use a needle to unblock the tip, and then squeeze out the solidified color on the tip to prevent the color from spilling out.

Precautions

  1. Please keep the 3D Paint Kit out of reach of children.
  2. When using sharp tools to remove supports or sand models, please use protective tools to avoid injury.
  3. Do not let the paints enter the eyes or mouth.
  4. If the paints are not used for a long time, please tightly cap the paint bottles and store them in a cool and dark place. The paint can be used for one and a half years after leaving the factory if stored properly.
