WARNING To avoid the possibility of electrical shock, open all disconnects before installing or servicing this accessory.

INSTALLATION
The following are the procedures to install the low sound com-pressor blanket. The 38APS065, 38APD070-130, 30RAP070-150, and 30MPA,MPW units without sound enclosure do not have access panels.

  1. Open and tag all disconnect locations to alert others not to restore power until work is completed.

  2. Remove access panel if applicable.

    • The 38APS,APD025-030, and 30RAP011-030 units have one compressor access panel with one latch at the top of the panel. See Fig. 1.
    • The 38APD040-060 and 30RAP035-060 units have 2 compressor access panels with one latch at the top of each panel. See Fig. 2.
    • The 38APS040,050 units have one compressor access panel with 2 latches at the top of the panel. See Fig. 3.
  3. The access panel must be removed as follows:

    • a. If shipping screws are present, remove them from sides of the panel.
    • b. To remove access panel, apply 1/4 turn with flathead screwdriver to slotted latches until panel releases. See Fig. 1-3.
  4. For 30MP units with sound enclosure panels, access the com-pressors by removing the left side enclosure panel (facing the front/control box end). See Fig. 4.

  5. Wrap the sound blanket around the compressor:

    • a. For 30RAP011,016 units, wrap the sound blanket around the compressor in a counterclockwise direction.
    • b. For all other units, wrap the sound blanket around the compressor in clockwise direction. See Fig. 5.
    • c. For 30MP040,045 units, install blanket on compressor A3 by loosening control box retaining bolts, then carefully shifting control box outward to allow enough space to access compressor A3. After securing the blanket (see Steps 6, 7, 8, and 9) return control box to original position (see Step 10).
IMPORTANT: Be sure to keep enough slack in the control wires when shifting the control box. It is recommended that more than one person move the control box. Properly support the control box when shifting it from its original position.Carrier-38APS025-065-Low-Sound-Compressor-

  6. Align the slots in the blanket with the suction tube on the compressor. See Fig. 5.

  7. Secure the blanket near suction tube with the hook and loop strips. See Fig. 5.

  8. Wrap the blanket around the compressor terminal box. See Fig. 6.
For 30MP016 units with compressor insulation, cut out the sound blanket around the compressor terminal box. The compressor power leads should be placed outside the sound blanket.
For 30MP050-071 units, the blanket will not cover the compressor terminal box. See Fig. 7.

  9. Attach the hook and loop strip on the vertical seam to secure the blanket to the compressor. See Fig. 6.

  10. For 30MP040,045 units, return control box to its original position and tighten the 4 control box retaining screws on each side of the unit.

  11. Attach top flap of blanket with the hook and loop strip while aligning the discharge opening with the discharge line. See Fig. 6.

    • a. For units 38APS025-065, 38APD025-060, and 30RAP018-060: All wires pass through top cover seam.
    • b. For unit 38APD070-130: ‘B’ Circuit wires pass through top cover seam. ‘A’ Circuit wires pass under the blanket.
    • c. For units 30MP016-045, 30RAP011,016, and 30RAP070-150: All wires pass under the blanket. Except 30MP016 with compressor insulation as noted in Step 8.
    • d. For units 30MP050-071: The wires pass outside the blanket, the terminal box is outside the blanket, and there is a cutout for the oil equalizer line. See Fig. 7 for 30MP050-071 units.
  12. For 30RAP100-150 units, install the sound blanket cap by aligning the discharge opening with the discharge line and attaching the cap with the hook and loop strip to the sound blanket.

  13. Repeat Steps 3 through 12 for installation of sound blanket to all compressors.

  14. Replace the access panel by reversing the procedure in Step 3 or Step 4, if necessary.

  15. Restore power.
