PHPF Energy Efficient Pump
WARNING
FOR YOUR SAFETY: This product must be installed and serviced by a
contractor who is licensed and qualified in pool equipment by the jurisdiction
in which the product will be installed where such state or local requirements
exist. The maintainer must be a professional with sufficient experience in
pool equipment installation and maintenance so that all of the instructions in
this manual can be followed exactly. Before installing this product, read and
follow all warning notices and instructions that accompany this product.
Failure to follow warning notices and instructions may result in property
damage, personal injury, or death. Improper installation and/or operation will
void the warranty.
These instructions are to be used with the following Jandy Pro Series
Replacement Parts:
R0448800– Lid with Locking Ring and Seal Replacement Kit (PHPF/PHPM, WFTR,
MHPM)
R0448900– Pump Debris Trap Basket Replacement Kit (PHPF/PHPM, WFTR, MHPM)
R0449100– Lid Seal and Lid O-ring Replacement Kit (PHPF/PHPM, WFTR, MHPM)
**WARNING**
Before servicing the pump, be sure to switch off the circuit breaker to the
circuit supplying electrical power to the pump. Failure to do so could result
in property damage, severe personal injury, and/or death.

Introduction
This document contains instructions for the proper replacement of the lid with
locking ring and seal, the lid seal or lid o-ring, and the pump debris trap
basket on Jandy Pro Series PlusHP (PHP, Models PHPF/PHPM), Water Features
(WFTR) and MaxHP (MHP, Model MHPM) Pumps.
These replacement kits are designed to be used with both newer and older model
Jandy PHP, WFTR, and MHP Pumps. Refer to Figure 1 and the parts list on this
page to identify the parts in each kit.
These instructions must be followed exactly.
Read them completely before starting the procedures.
Procedures
2.1 Opening Pump
WARNING
Turn off the pump and main breaker in the pump electrical circuit before
starting the procedure. Failure to comply could cause a shock hazard, which
could result in property damage, severe personal injury, and/or death.
WARNING
Due to the potential risk of fire, electric shock, or injuries to persons,
Jandy Pumps must be installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code®
(NEC® ), all local electrical and safety codes, and the Occupational Safety
and Health Act (OSHA). Copies of the NEC may be ordered from the National Fire
Protection Association, 470 Atlantic Ave., Boston, MA 02210, or obtained from
your local government inspection agency.
In Canada, Jandy Pumps must be installed in accordance with the Canadian
Electrical Code (CEC).

Turn off the pump. Switch off the circuit breaker to the pump motor.

Close all necessary isolation valves to prevent pool water from reaching the pump.

Following the markings on the lid’s locking ring, turn the ring counter-clockwise until the ‘START’ marking aligns with the ports. Carefully remove the lid.

Depending on the model of the pump, remove either the lid o-ring or the lid seal. Section 2.2 explains how to determine whether your model uses a lid o-ring or a lid seal.

Clean all lid sealing surfaces. Remove debris in the lid o-ring groove or lid groove and on the sealing surface on the pump housing. Debris on lid sealing surfaces can cause air leaks in the system.
**WARNING**
Follow all filter manufacturer’s instructions. Never attempt to assemble, disassemble or adjust the filter when there is pressurized air in the system. Starting the pump while there is any pressurized air in the system can cause the filter lid to be blown off, which can cause death, serious personal injury or property damage. -

The lid seal is used with newer model pump lids, and the lid o-ring is used
with older model pump lids.
NOTE The lid seal has a three-lobed cross section and the lid o-ring has
a round cross section.

Determine whether your pump lid is a newer or older model by locating the lid part number.
a. If the part number is on the bottom of the lid (see Figure 2), the pump is an older model and uses a lid o-ring. Go to Step 2.
b. If the part number is on top
of the lid (see Figure 3), the pump is a newer model and uses a lid seal. Go
to Step 3.

Replace the lid o-ring.
a. Comply with the warnings and follow Steps 1-5 in Section 2.1, Opening Pump.
b. Clean the lid o-ring groove.
c. Place the new o-ring into the lid o-ring groove.
Skip Step 3 and go to Step 4. -
Replace the lid seal.
a. Comply with the warnings and follow Steps 1-5 in Section 2.1, Opening Pump.
b. Clean the lid groove.
c. Note that one (1) side of the lid seal has two (2) ribs and the other side has one (1) rib. Insert the new lid seal into the lid groove, placing the side with two (2) ribs into the groove. See Figure 4.

Comply with the warnings and follow steps 1-5 in Section 2.1, Opening Pump.

Lift the pump debris trap basket out of the pump.

Before installing the new debris trap basket, remove all debris from the pump.

Place the new pump debris trap basket into the pump. Make sure that the slot of the basket is aligned with the positioning tab inside the pump housing. (See Figure 1.) If aligned properly, the basket will drop easily into place. Do not force it into place.
CAUTION
A misaligned basket will cause the lid to be improperly seated, allowing an air leak, which could result in pump damage. -

Comply with the warnings and follow Steps 1-5 in Section 2.1, Opening Pump.

Place the lid onto the pump housing.
-
Following the markings on the lid’s locking ring, align the ‘START’ marking with the ports. Then turn the lid clockwise until the ‘LOCKED’ marking aligns with the ports. Do not tighten past the ‘LOCKED’ marking.
2.5 Completing Procedures
-
If necessary, install any remaining parts. Follow the appropriate procedures, which are described in Section 2.2, Replacing Lid Seal or Lid O-ring, Section 2.3, Replacing Pump Debris Trap Basket, and Section 2.4, Replacing Lid with Locking Ring and Seal.

Return the valves to the proper position for normal operation.

Follow the filter manufacturer’s instructions on how to bleed all air from the filter.
WARNING

Starting the pump while there is any pressurized air in the system can cause the filter lid to be blown off, which can cause death, serious personal injury or property damage. -
Once all the air has been bled from the filter, close the filter pressure release valve assembly or other pressure release means, per the filter manufacturer’s instructions.

Turn on the power to the pump at the circuit breaker.

Turn on the pump.
-
Check to see if the pump is operating properly, with no lid leaks.
